Ferrari F2012 launch

If that's official, then it seems Ferrari is going for the exhaust blown brake-ducts instead of the exhaust blown rear wings. I like the rear wing blower better, but only time will tell which solution is best.

Interesting. McLaren dumps the L-pods, Ferrari's new pods sort of look L-shaped about halfway back because of the exhaust solution... I wonder if they're using the exhaust cover as a means of hemming in the air over the diffuser? Pressurizing it and giving it more energy as it passes between the exhaust coping and the floor?

Fascinating design. Ugly nose... woof woof... but fascinating design.

I'm no engineer, but how does blowing exhaust gases into the brake ducts help aerodynamics in any way? Or even the brakes in anyway? That air is going to be hot already, and won't do the brakes any good.

I just bought my breakfast back up and I haven't actually eaten yet. :yuck: Caterham's solution suddenly doesn't look so awful. Still, what actually matters is if it performs well enough to beat Red Bull.

Since regulations allow brake ducts, and brake ducts can be shaped any way you want on the front side... even shaped like wings... blowing exhaust onto the front edge of brake ducts can give you some downforce. Even better, it sends that downforce straight into the tires, not through the chassis and suspension. The effects are likely to be smaller than with a diffuser... but who's to say you can't shape the ducts to point the air back at the diffuser? :D

Some are theorizing this is the route McLaren will eventually take. Note that their exhaust pods seem tacked on, so they will probably test both configurations (blown wing and blown duct) then go with whatever they like.

It's fascinating.

That's what I was thinking, as well, but it just seems a lot more effective, safe and easier to aim it at either the rear wing, or over the diffuser. Then again, i'm no engineer.

I like the back part of the car but the front...

ohgodwhy.jpg

looks like lego.

It may not look like a fast car, heck the front is still killing me! However though, I think it's wise to wait until the test starts and we'll see how the car stands.

Owkey, to me this is the worse looking stepped-nose. I wonder what Sauber and others are working on.

It just doesn't look like that fast a car..

 that's sad when you look at a car that is suppose to be one of the fastest in the world and say it doesn't look all that fast. I'm sure Alonso and Massa were like are you sure we can't have a regular nose. Then when they saw McLaren they were like this:

Thank you someone agrees!

Indeed. Your welcome. It does really looks like some lego car. :boggled:
The front wing also reminds me of the aero part that can be found on the from below bumper of GT1/2/3 , le mans protoype cars (can't remember what it called).

Everyone knew that the cars were going to look ugly with the new front-end rules.

We just didn't know how bad it could get. It's amazing, but Caterham and Force India have made a better go of it than Ferrari in that regard.

I wouldn't feel too bad about it.

Remember the forward-facing exhausts on the Renault Lotus? The cars that caught fire at least twice last year?

Engineers designed those.

Uuuumm.. The splitter?

So I hear ferrari were given a cinder like block of carbon fiber and they ran out of material at the front of the nose. "Squared nose sounds good right? Yeah it should be a winner!"

This is a sin, honestly how is this more aerodynamic than nose of McLaren?

Some say Italians have taste for fashion ... I know it's not a beauty contest but still this is even uglier than Caterham.

I guess we could always beat it into beauty :dopey:

Really?
I thought the splitter are on the each side of the bumper. :boggled:
Silly me. :p

Yeah, it's the black thing covering the bottom of the front bumper and it's called the splitter. The thing on the side of the bumper are vanes I think.

I've been away for quite awhile from GT racing so yeah. Lol.

Well, i hope the car is fast. Although it didn't look fast.

how do you know it's not?

armchair experts!👍

You never know he may be more than that. Also we will all see what happens come FP3 and Qualy time at Australia oh and let's not forget the race that will determine to a good degree what works.

That car looks great,a lot nicer than the obese McLaren.

Why do people keep calling the McLaren obese? Given the extra width of the Mercedes engine, they've done a fantastic job of slimming down the rear end of the car...

They're just mad that their favorite teams has a nose like donald duck with the sound as well!

Also it's funny if you look at where the nose comes toward the back tire and then where it begins at the front tire on the side profile, it looks like it was photoshopped or cropped wrong.

Also people are honestly going to sit there and say this

looks better than this

Some people just don't have style, McLaren do :sly:

Thank god for Mclaren. The only team so far not competing in the 2012 Formula Lego Championship.

True story

The only thing I really like on the new ferrari is the roll bar structure this year. They did a good job placing the Kers intake.
