Ok so Team Reaper Racing is pretty much ready to go with my choice of cars, running under the team colour of "New Imola Orange Pearl" and Number 79

These are my chosen weapons...

Mini Cooper S 05'

Mazda Roadster RS (NC) 07'

Surprisingly they are all running at pretty much the same weight and bhp! All with Fully Customizable suspension (just because I like a good fiddle!) Racing Brakes on all cars with some minor weight saving and power parts to allow some eye and sound candy.

If anybody wants to know what settings I'm running these cars on, i'd be happy to share - I have no secrets to hide, so feel free to shout if you do.
Obviously these are tuned to my "way" of driving, which I would describe as smooth & flowing!

Another factor I've come to acknowledge is I'm tuning to accommodate Me (inconsistency) as much as the cars full capabilities. Last night when chasing @amarynceos in testing I manage to gain 0.5 of second on my best lap time, putting me 0.5 back under the target time. But then later in the session, with the same car and Chasing @Cu3e I was struggling to get within 0.2 of the Target time.

One thing is for sure, if everyone manages to nail that Target time, it is gonna be incredibly hard to overtake!

The car list will be the premium versions of the Miata, FRS/BRZ, RX-8, Focus, Fit, Civic, 500 Abarth, Mini and GTI. Tires will be SH or SM, slower drivers can opt for the SM to help their cornering speeds (although I had to use SM's on the Fit to get it up to speed). The track is Laguna Seca and the targets are 1:44.00 and 110mph/177kph.

In addition I believe hobbs got green light for the Toyota 86 as it is basically same car as BRZ I guess... Others?

In addition Brandon has also asked that we not use Wings, but I believe that other aero mods (front & flat floor) are ok, and that we use the Square Race Number Frame with the GT branding on it.

Top speed down the start/finish straight is 110mph +/- 1 mph

There are four cars in this group to choose from, Toyota GT86 and the 86 "Racing" (has a More Race tuned suspension), the Subaru BRZ and the Scion FRS! I'm sure all these are ok.

There are still quite a number of other cars that could be used (Renault's, Honda's, Volvo etc.) but I think Brandon had a certain current American racing series in mind to try and replicate!

Yep, all those are fine. And yes, I'm trying to somewhat recreate a real series but part of it was to narrow the selection of cars to expedite the testing process. If it was wide open we could spend a whole month testing and tuning cars. Since I knew these cars were all fairly closely matched it allowed you guys to just grab a couple and get to work learning how to dial them in so you could get familiar with how that works. This way we all got up to speed quickly and are ready to get a full test session going tomorrow. In the future the car selection will be more open and now that we have experience getting cars on target it will be easier to find a car and get it dialed in. 👍

I will probably stick with my original car...funny it was actually too slow on Brands Hatch but at Laguna it's almost too fast on the straight. Like 111, almost 112. I'll maybe try to lower it, but it was tough to do it, and when I changed the handling to make it "better", it also made it more unstable. Oh well, I'll tweak it a little more. I targeted 1:44.5, because it leaves space for anomalous laps.

4pm is good for me.

So is 3pm EDT out of the question?

I am still fine 4pm or 5pm, just wondering :)

I think me and jonnaidoo are same timezone, King+1

I'll have the room open around 3 or a little after. If we have at least 5 or 6 people around 3:30 or so we can fire up a quick 10 minute battle. 👍

The room is open for practice. Qualifying will start at 4pm EDT but we'll do a practice race before if we get enough people. We'll do two 10 minute races and a 15-20 minute race. And so the FF's won't be at a disadvantage off the line we'll do a rolling start, leave the line and stay at 60mph/100kph until we exit the first hairpin, at which point we'll go green.

Great racing guys. I really enjoyed the sessions 👍
Ended up being a good turn out for our "test/practice" races. Very close racing throughout all 3 races. Couple of mistakes on my end. But for the most part I held my own. I know this will lead into a great series for everyone. I feel that I race better when Tuning is involved. Just having the ability to adjust suspension/transmission is a plus for me. Don't get me wrong, I like Spec racing as well but grip/tires was an issue for my driving. :embarrassed:
And in a visual view of the game, through my eyes anyways, it's pretty cool to see a mix of cars and how they are customized.

Great job again Brandon for getting everyone together and organizing this. Can't wait for the new "Thread" to start up. It seems to be a pretty good group already. Hopefully, this really close racing will attract a few more drivers. 👍

It was as close as it gets and fun. I had some issues with my lap times before and during the session and I think I now know the reason...

I used "cockpit" view the other day for setting up exactly on the mark. Yesterday on amar's test server I was 1sec faster because using the bumber view... So I messed up with the car adding weight and stuff...

Then for the second test race I switched back to the "cockpit" view and was doing 1:45.5 laps...

Kinda frustrating but what can you do...?

Can it be just that my brake marks change or does the full interior cause some kind of lag affecting the speed?

Ok, I was quite tired as well... :)

I've found I'm sometimes .5-1 second faster with bumper view than cockpit view. I think the main reason is because I can see more and be more precise with my car placement. Also, I can't quantify this, but I swear the car "feels" different from bumper view, more planted and stable where in cockpit view it feels a bit more wallowy and wayward. I do believe there is some input lag in cockpit view due to the extra RAM needed for the cockpit animations, it just doesn't feel as crisp and precise. I like cockpit view and want to use it (especially with triple monitors where I can look left/right to check my side mirrors) but I find myself using bumper view when I want to do my best times. It's also been my experience that Laguna is a track that has a large difference between the two views. At some tracks I'll only have a half second difference in lap times between views but at Laguna I've sometimes picked up 1-2 seconds just by switching to bumper view. I'd say for parity racing it would be best to stick with the same view for the sake of consistency, but since you're tuning to a lap time either view will be equally viable (so long as you don't switch mid-race).

So it sounds like it went well. I'm looking forward to next weekend!

Yes, it went off pretty well. We did a short rolling start (went green after the first hairpin) so the FF's wouldn't be at a disadvantage off the line and that worked great. The pack stayed pretty close throughout all three races and it looked like everyone had somebody to battle with. The second race saw the top 5 finish within 1.2 seconds of each other and the third, longer race saw Torzilla win by 3 seconds and 2nd-6th all crossed the line with about a 1 second gap between them and the trailing car. That's good parity. 👍 I had some incredible battles with several drivers, going two-wide through several consecutive turns and drag racing to the line. It was good stuff and I think it gave everyone a good taste of what parity can be.

All in all, a really good day of racing with encouraging results. I'd say we're going to continue with this, there are so many advantages to racing this way, the battles are incredible, everyone has a chance to win (as @amarynceos @acedition333 and @Torzilla found out yesterday) and it's fun to be able to customize cars for a change. And it's something different, I've been doing nothing but spec one-make races for the last three years (which has gotten a bit boring) so this has really breathed some fresh air into things for me. We'll take this same group of cars to 80's Brands next week to have another good test session before I formalize a plan and take things public. 👍

Big thanks to all who made it out yesterday, it was great fun and we learned a lot.
