Ferrari in GT? Not a chance.

it would be nice for there to be porsches and ferraris in gt5, but what is more important to me is the actual aspects of the gameplay, like ai. i think the order of things being fixed/added in gt5 should be

1-ai
2-damage added
3-physics tweaked
4-either [R] mod or paint shop added
5-Impovements to enduros (night/day shifts, etc.)
6-ferrari, lambo, porsche
7-more american, and european cars
8-many skylines removed
 
I don't see why the absence of Ferrari in NFS: Most Wanted is related to GT5? Most Wanted let's you modify the body of your car to a great extent, something I can imagine Ferrari isn't too happy about, that would explain why NFS didn't get Ferrari.

There's no reason at all why Ferrari (or Lamborghini and Porsche for that matter) wouldn't want it's cars to be presented in GT5. And there's no reason why PD wouldn't include them if they could. The GT series have brought in a lot of money, and Sony knows the next titel in the series is going to be pretty important for their upcoming console, so it's safe to say PD's budget is sufficient for them to license Ferrari, Porsche, Lamborghini, and a lot of other exotic car dealers.

I actually expect to see them (or at least one of those 3) in GT5, as there are no exclusive rights this time around. It won't matter much to me though, I'm okay with a GT5 without them, but if it's possible, I'd love to have them in the game, just to experience them with decent physics.

EA had the licence and Ferrari provided their cars for NFS for what, 5 games? Now even EA doesn't get Ferrari in their game. And don't say MW's theme doesn't allow supercars becaues it does have Lamborghini, Porsche, etc. Considering PD never had bussiness relations with Ferrari, it's with great possibility that GT's not going to have it.

I know there's a long thread about whether it's possible for the supercar makers, especially Ferrari, to be in the GT series.

As we all know, NFS series always, well except for the last two UG series, had Ferraries. The newest NFS, the most wanted, will NOT have any Ferraries. It's kind of a shock when a few Lamborghini and many Porches are in the game.

Even with relatively good relation between EA and Ferrari, MW doesn't get any red. That leaves almost no chance for GT to have any.

Ferrari is up for grabs and has refused EA's agreement thus letting more games have the ability to get them.

Sure, its more money for Kazunori, but it can also mean higher profits. Ferrari's license is most likely higher than ever, and I'm checking with Lamborghini now.

BMW and Porsche are the only ones you have to worry about not seeing.

Even if EA wanted Ferrari to be exclusive to them, and Ferrari refused, EA would still settle just for the cars! Why do they want to be exclusive now? No one is doing what they are doing now.

Because people know Ferrari aren't the best cars ever.

NSX-R, its not about being Exclusive. Ferrari didn't sign with EA because they knew more developers would pay to have them. With EA out of the way, Ferrari can make more money from others besides EA.

Not true at all.

Name any racing game for the X360 or PS3 that has Porsche and BMW besides EA's games.

You can't count PGR3, because Ruf has taken the place since Bizarre saw it couldn't get Porsche. There's no BMWs either.

You can't count Test Drive Unlimited entirely...(about 70% confirmed of no Porsche or BMW).

GT5 really should get Ferrari at least with Porsche and Lambo as good extras. Not that I'm a huge Ferrari fan (I prefer the Zonda) but as stated Ferrari is an essential part of motoring and racing history. Without it GT will remain incomplete.
I certainly don't think Ferrari are worried about their cars being shown in an "unrealistic" way. They're the main draw of Sega's recent "Outrun" remake on the Xbox and arcade. A pure arcade game.

I remember the TV show "Fifth Gear" when they had a small piece on the release of GT4 back in February. Tiff Needell mentioned that therre were no Porsche and Ferrari because they wanted too much money. Accurate? Well it would seem Sony, who own the cheque book after all, have a policy of paying the same amount to all the car manufacturers in GT games. Now I don't know if this is true but it would'nt surprise me. I guess they feel is if they gave more money to Ferrari and Porsche then the other manufacturers may ask for more too.

Or it could be Ferrari want a cut of the profits. It would'nt surprise me if they did with the new Outrun game. If that were the case I can see why Sony would not except it.

To be honest paying more is a small price to pay considering the HUGE amount of profit the GT games have made. If it IS about money there really is no reason to pay that little bit more.

Thing is no-one except Sony, Ferrari and Kazunori Yamauchi know the facts. And they're keeping schtum!

If it's not about being exclusive, why won't Ferrari make money from EA? Ferrari still can make money from PD if the contract isn't exclusive. Who cares if the fish is small or big it's fish!
 
I'd certainly like to see Lambo, Porsche and Ferrari enter the world of Gran Tourismo... but only if they can actually make the cars sound right... i'm tired of the overused samples from GT3/4. It's gotta sound as good or better then Project Gotham Racing 3... now that's a good sound. Really.
 
Well reading through all your comments I agree with either side for whatever argument was put forth. But in my view even though it wouldn't be critical to have those big names added. It would no doubt excite many a GT fan.

I'm was kinda dissapointed that prosche was not fully in GT4, still only the RUF mod company, which limits the model range. That's one thing that annoyed me, the fact that some manufacturer's were included but then only featured a couple cars or even just one! That seemed like a waste. If a company is willing to be included then it should be done right with a comprehensive list of most models they offer. Much like most of the brands that are in the Japanese section.

Plus if the concerns are an image thing in regards to those company's like Ferrari and Porsche. Well I don't see how it could hurt them. I think it would certainly help grow their future as it will open the eyes and shed more light onto their products in the youth market and create new fans. Which in turn could produce future sales as those youg'ens growup and desire to purchase the car they've always loved as a child.

But for me I'd love a complete list of Porsche in there. at least a gt supercar, gt2 gt3, and a few 911 models eg carrera 4s and such.

I could ramble on but no point really.

Let me address my issue, maybe more brief. Where did I say that I hate Ferrari. The only thing I hate is that people want to down play a Gran Turismo game only because there aren't any devoted sportscar makers in it. That's dumb because a real car fan would appreciate what IS in the game as opposed to what isn't in. By the way, if you're going to love one of the "big three" in automobiles, don't have a "fanboy-ish" approach to this. If Ferrari and such will find their way into a GT game, it will be for enthusiasts to enjoy racing their favorite classics and modern classics, not for Ferrari/Porsche/Lamborghini types to have a one night stand with high-horsepowered speedsters. I don't know. Does racing get to be so boring that it can only be made better with speedy European exotics? Don't you think it gets boring racing ONLY fast cars? At least the series proves that any car can be a performance car even if it is a superexotic. Oh, and you want your exotics? What's wrong with a Pagani Zonda? a Jaguar XJ220? a Saleen S7? a Ford GT? a Dodge Viper? If you can't afford it and don't see it often, isn't it an exotic? Ferrari, Porsche, and Lamborghini aren't the only exotic car companies, nor the only exotics.

Why not make due with the exotics and pure sports cars available now, even if the big names aren't in the game? We all have to grow up some time.

Ferrari didn't want their cars confined to one game.
Ferrari wants more money. If they only get money from EA, sure they'll make money, but the realised they'll make more signing with others.

Think of it this way.
Only EA gets it-Money comes from just 1 game

Give cars to Bizarre, Atari and others, and even more money comes from different game companies.
 
I think he means why didn't they do a non-exclusive deal with EA as well as others. The answer is simply we don't know, we can only speculate.
 
For EA's sense, I think the more they try not to be the new Microsoft (in terms of wanting to monopolize and own everything), then no one stands a chance. Like I've said, it doesn't make the game any better to have a certain car company in the game. Maybe for us GT fans, many of us wanted certain things for so long, and many of us just learned to live without. People want damage and it isn't in, we lived with it. We want Ferraris and such, we lived with it. I think some people want cars from well-known racing series and didn't put them in, we lived without. Can you still be a big-name racing game even without big names? Of course!

My primary argument is that you don't NEED supercar makers to make a series better. Because let's face it. You put in Ferrari/Porsche/Lamborghini, then none of the other cars or other races would matter much. In some respects, not having these car companies is part of a concept called "addition by subtraction." What does that mean? Well, taking away something creates more positives than negatives. Putting Ferrari and such in the game is not a bad thing, my only problem is those who can only find satisfaction in a racing game like GT by only having a certain car company in the game. And if such companies are in the game, then rest assured- they won't handle in an arcadish fashion. You have to seriously consider how to set up the car properly for the task at hand. The "fanboys" want such big name car companies just to go fast all the time, the enthusiasts will like seeing these cars because they can appreciate the past and present of such a car company.

So staying on this logic, do you think it's possible to have these car companies in the game (I know this topic is about Ferrari, but that doesn't mean some players want ONLY Ferrari) that people will want to learn more about being an enthusiast of the company, as opposed to wanting a really fast, six-figure car? The element of sports cars and supercars all the time really concerns me. It is a concern in the sense of the fact that only fast cars can be race cars. Only sports cars and exotics can be race cars to some people. Gran Turismo is the "Real Driving Simulator," but only a certain few can enjoy the game with almost any car in almost any race. That will be the question for the next GT if Ferrari and such are included- can Gran Turismo still be a good game even without a well-known, renowned sports car maker? Is one company going to actually make a game better? Stay tuned.
 
One day soon we will get the list of included manufacturers for GT5. No worries till then hey? As long as they have Saleen, im happy. Now only if they get more Saleen models in there, i'd be ecstatic.

Addition by subtraction hey? Sorry but in GT's case more has always been more.

If you're worried about game balance above the possibility of including Ferrari, just structure the game so as to make people race all different types of cars. For instance, only give out things like Ferrari Enzos when the player reaches 100%, and include way more manufacturer races.

The arcadey-Ferrari-Lambo fanboys will be happy, and who says "proper auto enthusiasts" would have their (not very well balanced in the first place) game wrecked? WTF? You don't have to race the Ferraris if you don't want to, like any car. GT has always had stupidly fast cars like Escudos, F1 cars etc that mess with the game balance.

Sorry John, but there are zero positives to NOT including more cars, no matter what they are (maybe it would benefit from less skylines :lol: ).
 
Fast cars aren't always the greatest thing, with physics reaching near RL levels, cars that aren't specifically designed for racing all that power will just make them hard to handle. My garage consists of mostly power range 200hp-600hp, majority of my non race cars hover near 400hp, and i spend the bulk of my time on road tires, where you have to pay attention to controlling the vehicle than going as fast as you can. GT5's physics will more than likely make it even harder to drive high-powered cars without a damn near flawless steering wheel attachment, DS2's throttle control was pretty bland, no one can press that thing to more than 50% of those buttons 256 levels of sensitivity.

Most GT'ers would love to blast around the courses in an Enzo, Murcielago or a Carrera but the fact remains, we will do just like we have since day one, play the damn game and enjoy it. For me the main reason is when GT5 debut's online I would like to take on Ferrari enthusiasts, porsche enthusiasts and lamborghini enthusiasts with the S7, why? Just because...lol. Everyone has cars they dream of owning, if PD gets them in here wonderful. If not the world still rolls on.
 
Gran tourismo: the real driving simulation...

Ferrari, porsche, Lambo, Konieggsseegggggthing, whatever.... those are cars, and all cars deserve attention. Gran Tourismo is not a Racing Simulation, its a driving Simulation. Difference is, the obsession is about cars, not races.
 
But imo Gran Turismo should be about both in equal measure imo, if they kept the attention they have on the cars but upped the attention they put on racing GT4 would have been a killer of a game, as it is the seires has drooped into nice but nothing special.

As for Ferrari and coin GT, I agree completely with Savage Evils post, it'd be nice to have them but it won't ruin the game if they don't make it.

BMW i think is a shoo-in for GT5, GT is part driving, part racing, part collect-a-thon. Racing is fun in GT4 if you make it so, but PD dropped the ball, cars are waay over powered and Ai is waaay under-powered.

GT4 is somehing special because the range of cars it has, you will find something you will like, even cars you don't like in real life, but give them a try and actually appreciate it.

Hopefully the next game fine tunes the racing element, the sheer number of race cars alone warrants that, they have enough cars to have a realistic LeMan 24 hours race complete with 40+ cars of different classes. That is up to PD, GT4 has accelerated deterioration of hp, oil, tires and engine life, what is the point of that? When Arcade mode has options you can't find in GT Mode something is amiss, like the hp reduction, how many times you wished in GT mode you could do that, keeping your fave car, just detuning that horrendously high HP.

I just wish that PD and Kaz would give us a heads up on what manufacturers we can expect, I dislike them withholding too much information, how about some ballpark figures, amount of cars to be included, courses, rough number of race participants, give us something, vids are ok, but bah, i need a lil more than that.
 
I´d say wait and see! and PD is not that secretive are they? I seem to remember knowing a hole lot about GT4 before it´s release.

I've always been a hardcore GT fan, and the whole 'Exotics' thing - i.e. the Big 3 - have never been an issue to me. Well, except GT1. It lacks the Jaguar XJ220. But that's beside my point. I'm still gonna buy GT5. I'm still gonna race the tar out of it. And I'm still gonna waste precious hours of sleep playing GT5, regardless of the whole 'Exotics' thing. :crazy:

Oh, and btw: If PD fails to include the XJ220 one last time, I might be a tad upset. But that hasn't happened yet, and doubt it will. But I just had to mention it. It being my fave and all... :)

BMW will be in GT5 no doubt about it. EA don't hold an exclusive license, infact they recently lost their exclusive M cars licence which allowed PD to include the M3 and M5 ect. What's normal for PD to do in this situation is make an agreement with BMW covering not just GT4 but GT5 and maybe GT6 as well all at the same time. They don't always do each game as it comes with licenses and if PD hasn't done tha\t with most of their cars then whoever handles the licenses is a fool. It benefits PD and the car company involved, they can still give exclusive licenses out to another company just with a clause allowing them to uphold their deal with PD.

Quick Guess ; all of EA , nil the rest . But as L4S points out , that may not affect the licencing arrangement , at least we know Ferrari & Lamborghini have had prvious mismatches w/ PD.
