I just want to get some opinions regarding front wheel drive cars in GT3...

1. Do you enjoy using them?
2. How are they in terms of grip driving when compared to MR and FR cars?

Thanks

IMO i like driving FF cars. There are just some FF cars that are fun to put some suspension and thats it. Just tuning them and making a fun car to drive. I cant say i like them as much as a rwd car though. I just like the feel of a rwd car while exiting a turn and overall the way they drive. To list a few of my faves i would go with: spoon civic, trd celica, rsx type s and the type r integra (honda of course)

Ok kewl, yeah i think some of the cars are fun to drive too. But how do you think they are in terms of grip-perfomance?

I dont think FF cars are nearly as capible of grip driving as RWD cars are.

I like them. I use them to practice and test out new lines on tracks, and reverse donuts are cool.:D

I use FFs all the time, i love their performance and it can be a real challenge when you line up against the MR and 4WD cars....as for grip, the best is the Xsara Rally car but they all tend to be unpredictable on corners at high speeds, one you master them they'll take on any other drive type of similar power, but IMO the fastest is the Toyota Celica TRD @ 425bhp and when set up is also capable of drifting...other good FFs are the Fiat Coupe Turbo Plus, Beetle Cup Car and the Acura CL tunes to over 450 bhp.

Ass Draggers they are... I don't like them, haven't in a long time.

I do NOT like FF cars at all.. The only one with a slight exception is the Xsara rally the car.. And this is really great as the Pitz Pro Championship is next on my todo list :yuck:

FF cars are great! If it is your first time using a steering wheel for GT3, FF cars are great for a start.

FF cars don't vibrate, the Fiat Coupe does the vibrating.

Ving will kill you for that statement:)

thats for sure, but it still doesnt make it any less true....it will still be true when Darin is lying strangled under Ving's floorboards.

if your not carefull, you may also be under his floorboards also;)

Drive it. It vibrates like hell is coming up from under you. The Coupe is quick, just the steering wheel vibrates when I drive it stock. Its annoying. And he is gonna have to take it, breathe it in, cause its true.

i agreed with you.
you misread my post and came to the conclusion that i disagreed with you.
i agreed with you a second time...
you still dont understand me...so here goes.

Oh Yes Darin, youre right...the Fiat Coupe Does vibrate....(as do all cars)

if you still didnt get the jist...sleep on it and read it again in the morning.

I understood you, I didn't understand what you said. So, yes, I came to the conclusion that you disagreed with me. Not all cars vibrate now. The Fiat has alot of front wheel power. Thats the exact reason why it vibrates. My Civic TypeR, don't vibrate. It goes clean even with 400 horsepower pumping through the front wheels. But I only use that much power on Test course. The Vitz, and really light, tight looking compact, don't vibrate. The Fiat is the only car that seems to have alot of vibration on that Logitech Driving Force Pro. Same goes with the Dual Shock 2.

The Beetle Cup car shakes like mad, too.

I enjoy some FWD cars, most notably the Honda ITR with 250-280 hp. It's a pure pleasure to drive with that power level and the full-race suspension. People complain about the Vitz/Yaris, but with proper setup it's pretty competent too.

But overall I prefer RWD. I'd say the only FF car I drive for pleasure is the ITR.

I enjoy some of the front-drivers. They take very well to mild set-up, handle power well, and require some modicum of skill to drive quickly.
They are not RWD by any means, and the handling is WAY different, but they can be quite entertaining to drive.
Take the Lupo out on Cote 'd Azur, after building it up to about 200-250 HP. It will teach you the course like no other car.

Taking the Lupo Racer out on Cote'd Azur can definatly help you master the course.

I agree with spense, ff cars are fun to tune up and makin' drive good. I've gone over my trd celica settings many times trying to get it to run perfectly, but that's just me.

I run 1/10 scale r/c cars so I'm used to spending alot of time on set-ups and not as much driving.

who was mocking my beloved fiat???

yeah, the fiat vibrates ya controller, but only cause IT'S SO DAMN POWERFUL.

IT'S A BEAST I TELLS YA!!!
:D

FF cars are fun. I like driving the fiat and the older vers of the celica. they look great in replays too :)

Front wheel drive :yuck:

Don't like them in the game, don't like them in real life. Give me RWD / 4WD any day of the week.

Damn. I was going to say:

"Think Fiat. Or at least you will once Ving gets here..."

;)

I enjoy ff cars a lot because ff cars have the ability to do extremely long difts, if the driver knows how to throttle control, can handle the car well, and can maintain a certain speed.

FF cars can grip better than fr and mr cars because ff cars are specifically made to grip and not oversteer. FF cars tends to understeer which gives them the ability to grip well.

FF cars may be slow, but that is because they lack horse power. If you give an ff car at least 400 hp+, the car will certainly be fast, but the car will not have the ability to catch up to an fr and mr car on a long stright road, if the fr and mr cars have 400 hp+. The reason why is because fr and mr cars have bigger engines and more power to the back wheel which will push the fr and mr cars faster on the straight and corner.

In terms of grip, ff cars are still better because they are slower and are less likely to oversteer.

Give an FF 400+ps and you'll be fighting to keep it in a straight line, let alone turning. There is a dicussion on FF drifting in the GT3 Drifting forum. It is not going well.

A key technique in driving FF cars to their limit is left foot braking should you understeer into a corner. You can keep the revs up with the accelerator and shift weight forward to counter the understeer, at the same time. However, it seems there are no PS2 wheels that allow this, unless GT4 devises a way to accept up and down analog right input at the same time.

Show me oversteer on an FF. I will laugh.

And being slower and having a front wheel drivetrain doesn't justify better grip, it merely makes the car less prone to spinning. An FF could be just as fast as an FR, but FR is the ideal drivetrain because you can keep the car on the ideal line even if it slips out a little.

If you want me to prove to you how superior FR/MR drivetrains are over FF/AWD, send me a pm and when GT4 comes out we'll battle and see who can attack the corners faster :\

Properly tuned FFs handle excellently even with max hp. That includes both ITRs, Spoon's CTR, TRD's Celica, and the GTO.
