FFB and the steering characteristics setting

Hi, apologies if this has been brought up previously. The search function didn't result in exactly what I was looking for, but it seems to me the FFB isn't as strong as I recall it being when I first started GT5 this past summer.

I've got a DFGT and changed the FFB setting to '10' and the handling still seems way to loose and easy. I've tried different cars and even went back to GT5 where its handling seems lighter than I recall before the release of GT6. It's almost like the FFB response is less realistic and more video gamey.

I'm still testing this out, but something seems different. Thanks for the input.
 
Possibly the the tire flex (side wall) in the new tire modeling? I've been too lazy to pull my wheel out yet...
 
What wheel setting are you running besides the FFB level? I recommend Simulation with no power steering assist at either 8 or 10 FFB depending on wheel and preference.
 
Its the suspension roll you're feeling, GT5 didn't have that so it feels much different in the two.

Simulation mode doesn't work with the DFGT.
 
Simulation mode on DFGT works for me as well; I have strength at 7, fairly new to wheels but I like the feedback i'm getting and the amount of control I have.
 
I used to have my settings on 10, but I read in the Sim Racing subforum that 10 is too high and 6-7 is perfect to eliminate dead zones.
I have my T500 on 6 and it's doing great for me. 10 is way too high, I can't drive with that anymore
 
The steering wheel seems heavier in GT6 than in previous GT games. It takes so much strength to turn the wheel now, which also makes it harder to correct oversteer or even attempt to drift with. It's takes me years in the game to turn my steering wheel full lock to make a U-turn where as in real life I can make a complete U-turn with my car in less than a sec. How is everyone running at 10 FFB? I find the steering to be really stiff and heavy when FFB is set too high. I can barely handle mine at 7

The simulation mode option only applies to all the wheels highlighted when you hover over the menu, which is all the older wheels such as the Driving Force EX etc.

You can change the setting, but it has no effect.
 
I leave mine at FFB setting 3,anything more than that and just starts to feel way too heavy compared to a real automobile.
 
Some interesting replies. I barely notice a difference between FFB strength 5 and 10 on my DFGT. From what it sounds like, level 10 should be like driving a loaded dump truck with no power steering.

I still feel the wheel turns much more freely than in the recent past.
 
I turned the FFB down on my T500RS from 6 in GT5 to 5 in GT6.
GT6 FFB feels stronger to me and more detailed than GT5.

Would you like to share with us how you made that happen because with the stock wheel the G27/DFGT is not lit up when you select "simulation" meaning it doesn't work with that wheel? I'd like to give it a shot myself and see what it's about.:cheers:
 
I have the ffb at 3 and switch between the 450°, 670° and 900° modes of the G27 depending on the car.

To switch modes you press the two middle red buttons on the shifter and:

▲ = 225°

■ = 450°

O = 670°

X = 900°
 
I can guarantee simulation mode works on Logitech wheels, whether it's the DFGT, G25 or G27. I upgraded from the DFGT to G27 and I've been running these FFB settings since GT5 released.

I can confirm it works, when I went to Silverstone for GT Academy I had to adjust the settings for the Thrustmasters they had set up at racecamp and felt the difference, same thing on my friends DFGT I set up for him for GT6 day 1 and I've also felt the difference on my G27.

I race, rally, drift and I use the same FFB settings at all times. If you don't believe me, put the FFB at 8 and switch between modes and go drive, you'll feel it yourself.
 
The Amateur, Professional, and Simulation modes only work for the 3 wheels that are highlighted when that option is selected. Those wheels are the Driving Force EX, GT Force, and the Driving Force. Those settings DO NOT work for any other wheels. Why do you think they are not highlighted? There is a reason for that. And I am not going by just that as I have tested it with my G27 and my Thrustmaster and there is no difference. Not sure why you can't understand that, as its as plain as the nose on your face. If you want to believe it works, then fine, live in your fantasy world but don't come on here telling everyone else that it does because you are passing along false information and misleading others.
 
Why then, have I and other people felt the difference? I just had it happen the other night. Friend got online for the first time on GT6 and was complaining about the feeling of loss of grip in the rear. I asked him if he set his FFB settings in the menu. He left, changed it, came back and said he could feel the difference in the wheel. He has the G25. I also felt it myself at GT Academy with the Thrustmaster T500.

I also have my G27 set on simulation right now as I type this. So it works.

Edit: I think I need to make it a little clearer what I'm saying, yes the wheels are grayed out when selecting the steering mode between Amateur, Professional, and Simulation. However, I can feel a difference between the modes and I'm not the only person I know to say so. Everyone should know things don't always work the way they look or should on GT.

It sounds like your motor may be dying, the DFGT doesn't like running high FFB. Mine now runs with barely more resistance than is necessary to recentre itself.

Yes, it will let you set your wheel to that setting, but it has no effect whatsoever. I'm not sure what you think you are feeling, but it is not from them settings. I can give you a whole list of people that will agree with me on this, not just a few friends. I, and others that I know, have also tested this and feel no difference. But, like I said, if you want to believe that it works, so be it, but don't pass it on as fact because it is not.

EDIT Just for 🤬 and grins, I tested all 3 settings out on the current TT using the Mercedes and guess what....no difference. I also tested in various other situations and still, no difference.

I'm skeptical :odd: and always believed what Cargo is saying because it makes sense, on the other hand I'll try anything to get an edge.:sly: So what am I looking for when I do this? What "difference" should I be able to feel?
 
Furthermore, the scrolling text on the menu clearly states that those modes only work with wheels with 200 degrees steering or less. Since the G27 has 900 degrees rotation on the PS3 and there is no way to change that unless you know the little trick discussed in another part of these forums, it is not going to work. So I guess the simple answer here is, if you can set your wheel to have 200 degrees or less steering, then it might work that way for the above mentioned wheels. So, if you are using a wheel with more than 200 degrees rotation, then it is definitely not going to work for the above mentioned wheels.

EDIT I just referenced the thread I was talking about here https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/threads/g27-g25-dfgt-undocumented-wheel-lock-settings-guide.286646/ and as it turns out, even using that method, you still can't set the G27 to have 200 degrees of rotation. So, as it turns out, those modes will still not work for the G27. I've done the testing, I've done the research and I stand my ground. Those settings are only meant for the wheels highlighted when that option is selected, scrolling text further backs that up.

The motor going is entirely possible. That or my arms are getting stronger.

One thing I noticed is the dirt events have to give the FFB motor a workout, that's for sure. Curiously, it seems the older GT titles for PS2 had more rally events compared to GT5/6.

I was sure it worked. When I changed from amateur to SIM last week I could've sworn it worked.
So I wanted to prove you wrong and took my 400r on r246 and ran laps and laps on amateur then pro then sim and was expecting to have to do more and more work, adjusting, counter steering, flinching as the difficulty went on...but nothing changed. I felt no difference. Though maybe a 4wd grip monster was the wrong car to test with.

I have before and it doesn't help. Power assisted steering really only comes into play when you over steer and have to catch it quickly.

I like my FFB to feel tight, know what I mean? I like a sharp feeling turn-in, and GT6 just doesn't do it for me.
