Series Status: Testing & Registration
FIA / ACO GT Spec Series
"Not for the faint of heart"
There are a lot of cars in GT5 that are very similar to FIA / ACO GT spec cars. Some cars can be tuned to almost the exact spec. I was disappointed initially with the lack of premium GT spec racing cars but, RM's and tuning can bridge the gap a bit. As a result, I would like to organize a race (series, if successful) comprising of GT1 and GT2 spec cars. To ensure regulatory standards, fairness and competitiveness I have come up with a unique system.
First a list of people that are willing to participate will be compiled (16 total, including me). If you are interested please list the following criteria:
- PSNID (GTPlanet PSNID preferred but not required)
- Country/Timezone (if not fluent in English please list competent language)
- Spec you wish to race in (GT1 or GT2)
- Any suggestion for additional cars (see requirements below)
- Track suggestions
Then 3 race admins will be chosen by me (total of 4 admins,). I will choose each admin on the basis of their:
- Posting history
- Contributions to GTP (especially if you are a proficient tuner)
- Participation in past race series
- If I know them (sorry
)
Each admin will own a (TBD) portion of the cars listed below (list may change). Each participant of the race (including admins) will friend each other. Then each admin will put the cars in their online garage. You will be able to decide what spec you want (GT1/GT2)but each car will be randomly assigned. You will NOT be able to select your own car. The tracks will be real world tracks that have held or are currently holding GT racing (different from the car rules, since the number of tracks is quite limited). I will select the tracks and the order they are raced on. Depending on the size of the track the race will be between 30-60 laps. The race will start.
However, to ensure accuracy and competitiveness, each car must undergo a review process before the race. Not every car can be spec'ed perfectly to its real world counter part. Certain cars are also naturally faster in GT5. As a result each car will be first tuned as close as possible to its real world counterpart. Then each car will be tested (online) by the admins at Suzuka Circuit, which has a good combination of low, medium and high speed sections and should prove to be a fair barometer. Each car will be then re-tuned to come within 1 second of the rest of the cars in its class. This will ensure a competitive and entertaining race. PP will NOT be factored in. Also there is a STRICT honor code as you can modify cars that you borrow. You may not change anything to do with tires, HP, weight, or downforce. Gearing, diffs, suspension are allowed to be tuned. All tires for all classes and cars will be locked to Racing Hards. There will be no aids, except for ABS set to 1 (even if you are using a controller). Tire wear will be on. I have not yet decided on damage. If you are found or even suspected to be in violation of any of the rules set forth in this thread, you will be kicked from the race series, and reported to GTP mods. In case you cannot tell this is emulating real GT racing. (Please see update below for new rules)
With the 16 car limit there will be 8 GT1 cars and 8 GT2 cars in the race. The GT1 cars will start in positions 1-8 and GT2 9-16. Grid position will be determined randomly and the race will begin after a 1 lap out lap, during which each car will take its appropriate position. This is already complicated enough so I have decided to forgo qualifying.

If you wish to suggest a new car to this list please follow these rules. I would like a total 16+ different cars, 8+ in each class so far all I have is a total of 18 (10 GT2, 8 GT1)
- First, it must be either RM or if it is not it must "look" like a GT car. The eligibility of a car will be determined by my discretion. Yes, this is very subjective but the point is for the race to look authentic, not just a tuner fest.
- Second, the make and model of the car must be competing in, or have competed in FIA GT or ACO GT (ALMS/ILMC) spec racing in the GT1 or GT2 classes. No other championship or class will be accepted.
- Third, the car must be of the 2006 model year or later.
- Fourth, if the car is a prototype or concept, its intent must have been for GT spec racing.
- Fifth, you must provide a link or reasonable description satisfying the rules above.
- Certain exception may be made for standard cars, like the R8 LMS. While, Super GT cars seem like a natural fit for GT1 they will be left out of this race, in order to maintain differentiation from the other series on GT planet.
While this may seem strict, but I will be reasonably open.
So there you have it. Please also feel free to leave comments and suggestions. I look forward to your responses. 👍
Update 3/15/11:
"First things first, if you suggest a car for the car list, you need to own the car, because unless somebody owns it, this will not work. Right now I am open to the Zonda and Lister, if they can be provided.
I have thought it over and this is how it is going to go. I will let everyone choose their own car... but... right now everyone just tell me what class you want. I want to at least get that list locked down.
Once there are 8 people in each class, the 4 admins are chosen, and all the cars are tested by the admins, I will ask everyone at a specific time, to PM me their top 3 choices. I do not think it is fair to reward people who asked for specific a car before this rule was made. I will open the PMs in the order I receive them. If your top choice is taken then you will get your second and so on. Once you have your car you will have it for the rest of the season.
Honestly, all the cars will be even as far as lap times are concerned. So do not worry about getting a crappy car. I am also not going to entertain crying contests over who gets what car. Yes, this is precipitated by the design of this series, but it is a necessary hurdle.
So in case it was not abundantly clear, just tell me what class you wish to participate in."
