@Omnis

Likely, physically strong and even so, they're nimble. They defend nicely too, it's a shame they got in this strong group, I wish they were on the next phase to represent the continent.

EDIT: IC is lacking the final ball... if they get some good passes right, Portugal will be in trouble...

^^^ Good Luck Arvore ;)

Thanks Blitz seems we gonna need it:nervous:
Côte D'Ivoire is undoubtly the strongest(litterally) African team, very well organized, giving no space and always looking for the counter-strike:sick:

This isn't looking very well:indiff:

Btw I am typing with no nails already and it is one half to go yet...:sly:

Egypt is 10th and they're not even in the tournament.

FIFA rankings have no bearing on who gets to the World Cup. Croatia are now in 10th and they're not in South Africa either. North Korea are 105th in the world, yet they're in a 32 club tournament.

Yeah, I know. My point was that you can't really use rankings to determine who's gonna win. By the rankings, England was probably supposed to have crushed the US.

Yep, some of the rankings are very misleading - Greece and Australia are prime examples - Portugal and Holland are also slightly too high up IMO... Germany are too low, South Korea are way too low, and Scotland... well, we're about right :guilty:

WTF WAS THAT. They had a corner kick and they play it short and the ref blows the match? WTF. At least put it in front of goal! Look what NZ did. What an anti-climactic ending.

Things don't look too good for Portugal. They better cheer for a Brazil win against Ivory Coast.

After watching this match I can't help myself from believeing that the tie wasn't such a bad result:indiff:
A very STRONG Ivory Coast almost beaten us...lousy performance from the National Team didn't helped also:grumpy:

Lets see if they can give BRAZIL a hard time also:sly:

I can see the Brazil - Portugal and Brazil - Ivory Coast games being similar to the Portugal - Ivory Coast game... the group may be decided by how many goals each team can displease the Dear Leader with.

I bet Brazil and NK will Draw. Wouldn't that be something?

^^ I would call that an accident.

I told you guys, a draw was likely to happen, both teams are great.

If Brazil and NK draw 0-0, I think I may abandon the World Cup and start watching the cricket instead

I'll second that, how's the crowd? Many interesting chicks to see, like Dutch chicks? Sadly, Sweden isn't in this cup....

This was a really HARD game! The favourit African team sure did everything they could! But was bad for the show it self, when they waited for a Portuguese error in the 1st half, while playing most of the time between defense and the counter attack. We were a bit better in 2nd half but couldnt get through!

Brazil will have to play very good to beat them, and they wont have an easy game.

All is opened to Portugal :D:tup:!

Well, if they draw it wouldn't be a total loss. At least I'll be leaving work early. In 54 minutes actually. :D

I'm cheering for Brazil, but I want them to play badly, so Dunga can exchange the awful Felipe Melo for Ramires, and then switching Elano for Dani Alves, he can't be out of the team, it's a waste of talent.

Damn, that paint dried quick.

A good start for the Ivory Coast with a 0-0 win.

Well, I haven't got all of my predictions wrong today...yet...

When does the tour de france start...

My first post in this thread.

Unless I'm seriously mistaken, Portugal will do in this WC the same they did in 2002 - 3 games and head back home.

As a Portuguese, I'm flattered by some of the comments I've read here. However as a person who likes to watch football I must give them the proper relevance and admit that the Portuguese national team is, since the end of the 2006 WC nothing but a bluff.
This team is Ronaldo, occasionally (the guy can't bear the whole burden himself alone), and little more every now and then.

It really upsets me when the head coach says he's happy with the result and that we had played against a team that kept the pack in the back, defending, for the whole game. Well, firstly Queiroz didn't watch them same game I did. Secondly, Côte d'Ivoire did what was the best to them to achieve their goal, as expected in a football match (Mourinho did the same with Inter against Barcelona and was praised to god-like levels afterwards...), and to be perfectly honest they were at least as much as dangerous in the attack as we were. Thirdly, I find amusing that Queiroz complaints about the defensive attitude of Côte d'Ivoire since that, when Drogba entered the game, he sent to warm-up two centre-defenders (Ricardo Costa and Rolando).

This game was crutial to define one of the two open spots in the Group for the next stage. Whoever win, would be in great advantage, added that for Portugal it was even a bigger advantage because we will play North Korea next and Côte d'Ivoire against Brazil.

Now it is likely this would come down to whoever wins by the greatest number of goals against North Korea and looses by the fewer goals against Brazil will pass.

Just to clear something up - after today, confirming the horrible set of players we are (I can't call that a team), the way we play and the system he insists in using (Liedson is not the proper player to use alone in the front), I highly doubt that we can score against North Korea. I've seen them play already and if Queiroz complained about CI being ultra-defensive, I don't know what we will say about NK (not to mention their outstanding counter-attack capability - men if they are fast!).

Group G, my bet -> Brazil and Côte d'Ivoire to pass to next round.

And no Ronaldinho?

I agree with you in everything else you stated Sérgio but I force myself in beig more optimistic than You;) I think Brazil wont have an easy task, either against I.C. and if we don't win from North Korea...well let's unleashe the rage of their GREAT LIDER upon Queiroz and his players

I'm glad that someone is optimistic 👍 and despite my opinion I'll be thrilled to be proven wrong. But the indications (and they come from waaaay back) aren't pointing that way :nervous:

I'll let you with this though; football is a very very simple game. And besides the tactics (which should be set accordingly to the set of players you have and not the other way around as we insist to do), it has 3 very basic concepts that are essential for every team to dominate - ball control, passing and running. I question if you ever seen the latest today from our part?

Gary Liniker once said that football is a game were two sides of 11 play each other and, in the end, Germany wins.

The Germans however, had at the time an even more curious way of describing the objective inherent to the game which is to score goals; "If football didn't have goals, Portugal would be always world champion."

No I haven't,thats why I've stated I was forcing myself to be more optimistic than You:sly: it's not a rational thing it's more a Desire:dopey:
