Well, I am finally going to play a RPG all the way through.

So which do I want to play, how about the only 1 I have ever bought: Final Fantasy 7.

What I would like to do is get a dialoge going so that when I need some help or when I want to discuss this great game, I might actually have a thread to do it in.

It seemed odd to me that there were no threads for ff7 in this forum or the ps2 forum, but then again, it is quite an old game.

Is it too old for the majority of you?

Well if you want to get down on this experience, or you think you can lend a hand, please check in on me and see where things are.

Right now I'm about 5 hours in and things are still slow going (haven't even picked up a single "summon materia").

I will be back shortly to give specifics about where I am and what sort of help I may need.

Thanks for the help, and thanks for any enthusiasm.

Hope to hear from all of you soon,
-Kent

Great, 👍

I will probably need your help at some point I am sure.
As for me...
Right now I am in shinra headquarters.
Level 15 or 16, and I just beat a boss after getting Red VIII on my team.

Unfortunately, I don't remember much since I only managed to check my status last night at about 2:30am, hence I don't remember much of what's going on.

However, I will be back soon with comments on where I am.

I think my main problem at the moment is learning how to equip and use all the different types of materia.
Right now I can use the fire, lighting, ice, etc... but the stuff like "all" or "cover" is just outside of my game play understanding at the moment.

Any way, I will be back later on with progress.

Till then,
-

The cover materia sucks later in the game, since you can choose who you use. Of course you will choose the strongest characters. No need to protect them from any damage.

A piece of advice. Take Cloud, Barret and Tifa in your team. When you get Cid later in the game, replace Tifa with him.

I'm quite the veteran on the FF7, so feel free to ask.

edit:// the cover materia sucks in the beginning of the game too.:dopey:

I haven't played that for sooo long, it's the best FF so far imo but I haven't played many before it. I must have played all the way through that about 5 times, the first summon you can get is at the chocobo ranch, you have to talk to one of the chocobo's but you have to say the right thing to it first time then it does a little dance and gives you a chocob summon, I think it's the first choice but I'm not sure because it's been so long since I did it.

I love FF7 and never beat it got to the end about 95 HOURS!! and still cant beat it to this day so I have just kept the game somewhere safe and see if i can get some money off of it its not the greatest hits version and has visiablely NO SCRATCHES!!! anyone know how much it would be worth? ( I dont have plans of selling it right now though maybe in a few years not really sure.)

Wow, someone still playing this game. 👍
I can't comment really, seeing as i've finished it about 8 times and started countless saves I haven't finished.

If your still in the shinra building, try stealing from the Soldier 3rd class (I think they are 3rd class) to get a Hardedge sword for Cloud and then try stealing from those roller robots to get some carbon bangles. I wanna restart this again, but i'm still in the middle of Xenogears for the umpteenth time as well.

Alright everyone, I suppose an update is in order. :D

Basically, I gave in and got a used copy of the "brady strategy guide."

Seems to have helped a bit in some areas, but the biggest help I have gotten was from myself.

What I have been doing is traveling areas over and over.
Learn the enemies
Learn my defensive moves to use
Learn my offensive moves to use

Then whip some tail.

With that strategy being the base of my game play, I managed to get to the shinra building and through it.
Then I got the guide... :mischievous:

Cheap, I know, but still a hella fun for a newb to RPGs like me.

Now I've blown through all the way over to the rocket town.

Got all the secret characters so far which include vincent, yuffie, and sith.

ATM I'm running with Cloud, Tifa, and Vincent.

I have a question.

Is it bad to neglect the other characters?

Aeris is getting no play time since I knew her fate from the get-go. The others are no good for me since I love to run Cloud & Tifa all the time.
I know it sounds bad but at the moment everyone is almost on the exact same level.

Tifa is leveled up to something like 37 & Cloud's at 38.
Both are putting in over 300hp on a standard attack. 👍
Vincent is right there with both, but just barely lower. (vincent replaced an equally strong barrett... I just liked vincent more :D )

Well,
I will be back soon with news of my progress.
Please feel free to address my question about party setup.

Wow. It's been a while since I've played this game.

So you're using Cloud, Tifa, and Vincent huh? When I played I liked to use Cloud, Barrett, and Cid (who you'll get at Rocket Town, if I remember correctly). Vincent is ok, but I just didn't like how his Limit Breaks work (you'd completely lose control of him).

And I hardly ever used Aeris.

Man this game kicks soo much arse. Trust me when i say this GoKents, finish it and it will be an experience that will stay with you forver. You will think back to it for years to come. I would run off and hunt down a copy (my current one is as good as broken) but i don't know if i could emotionaly handle going through the thing again.

As for parties, Yuffie, Cid and Cloud, not just because Cid and Yuffie are my favourites, but also because they have quite good limit breaks end-game.

Tip: Learn materia combos well, you can do some very tricky things with materia if you know how.

 FF7 was the first and the ONLY RPG I have ever played kinda weird but I am looking forward to FF7 (2) the sequel to FF7 (1) :WOW:
cnat really wait for it to come out and I dont think its bad to neglect the other characters not really sure and party wise I always used cloud barret and cid.

Cool. FF7 is the only FF game I finished. (and I had no. 10 and no. 8)

You finished 7 and not 8 and 10???

FF7 is by far the toughest ff.
I finished ff8,ff9,ff10,ff10-2 and 7 too but with codes

I used i code to gain all materias, best weapons, items, no time countdown, all limit breaks, etc. but it took about 55 hours.

Well.... You CAN go with Tifa, she's a good fighter. But replace Vincent with Barret. Barrets last limit break 'catastrophe' is propably the greatest limit break in the game (after Clouds omnislash, of course :dopey: . That move ROCKS!).

If you switch places with Barret and Vincent now, you will be in a pretty good position when something happens later in the game.

I haven't actually played FF7 for ages, I think you Go Kents have indirectley put in a difficult position bringing memories of this masterpiece back, I want to play it again now, but I don't really have the time to spend on it.

I was about to load FF7 into my PS2 when I realised, I need a new PS1 memory card, I'd just decided to do it all again as well.

Damn it!

I just can't get a break.

Barret has been out of the game for some time now, and with the way I'm leveling up.

Cloud's at level 55 or something now, and tifa is nearly as high.

Actually, I have a few questions regarding the final limit breaks for each character.

Specifically my girl tifa.
Do I have to use the book's piana playing strategy to unlock here final limit break or will it be unlocked later in the game naturally?

Also, is it too early in the game for me to try and get all the limit breaks?

I just completed the first disc and now I'm leveling up in the final cave areas of the city of the ancients.

It works really well too.
Groups of 4 enemies that can be taken out by 1 ifrit summon. 👍
Plus, they give up a total of 1200-2000 exp. points for each victory. 👍
So with that setup, especially with it being so close to an exit for the world map, I can level up quickly and effectively.

Well...
Yeah,
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks again,

edit:
forgot... 1 more question.

Will there be a second chance to pick up a "ribbon" ?
It blocks all status attacks and I managed to miss it in the temple of the ancients.
Now I'm way past it but still wishing I hadn't, soo...
Thanks. :D

But this is sorta important at the moment.

I figure that if I really want help I should try not to be vague.
Allow me to post where I am in the game. :D

First off, I'm camping in just outside of the Icicle area.

Cloud: lv 55, hp 3655, mp 572
Tifa: lv 55, hp 3113, mp 577
Vincent: lv 52, hp 2742, mp 542
(those are all with full materia loads)

Right now my 2nd string are still way low. :(
Barret: lv 46, hp ?, mp ?
Cid: lv 47, ?????
(no one gets to hold materia in my game besides the 3 party members.)

Speaking of materia.
Most of my stuff is at level 3 or master.
I'm using the rune blade on cloud and have it equiped with key materia for growth. I also keep "luck" and "death blow" materia on the sword.

Hope to find something better soon, but for now the Rune blade seems to be the best.

Basically, cloud is my best player. :dunce:

Listen...
Getting all this stuff out on the screen just makes me want to play (since it is on and sitting next to me), soo....

I'm out for now, but please get back to me asap about 1 specific thing...
My party members.
Should I use barret even though he is 9 levels down from cloud?

thanks again,
:D

YES PLEASE USE BARRET  (sorry about the caps.) his finally limit break is castrophia (SP?) and it is pretty good and speaking of your lower level members mine are at like 15-37 the lowest and barret cloud and cid are at about 70-76 You are good at leveling up. 95 hours through the game and still havent beat the boss  I suck at RPG's but I am STILL gonna buy FF7 2 when it comes out for sure.

Yeah. Barret kicks ass. Read my first post. :)

Cid's final Limit Break is also very strong. So again: Cloud, Barrett, and Cid. DO IT!

Well thanks guys!

I went and put Barret back on the play list.

However, Tifa is not loosing her spot. :D
She's way too powerful and if I can get her final limit break.

Which reminds me...

Can anyone talk to me about how to unlock all the final limit breaks?

The strategy guide explains them, but I am looking and hoping for alternatives.
The strat guide says...
Tifa: Play the piano in Tifa's house.
Cloud: get X amount of points in the golden saucer battle arena.

I haven't looked into barret, but once I do I will get back to you all if I need help getting his final limit break.

However, for now I would like to specifically know about Tifa's final limit break.
Cloud's I can get, but Tifa's... :banghead:
I haven't been able to play the piano right yet, and I wonder if I can even do it at this point in the game.

So,
Tifa's final limit break... Help Please!
:D

You need to play this tune:
Note Button
Do X
Re Square
Mi Triangle
Ti R1 and Triangle
La R1 and Square
Do X
Re Square
Mi Triangle
So R1 and X
Fa O
Do X
Re Square
Do X

After playing the tune, check the sheet music and you will receive Final
Heaven. You must have Tifa in your party.

And Barrets final limit break you can get from his home town (don't remember the name) later in the game, after a little train accident.

BTW, two good hints. Later in the game, when you go back to the capitol city (damn. Can't remember that either :D) have Barret with you so that you'll get his best weapon. And when you enter the underground tunnels go south and you'll get the W-Item.
