I bet a lot of people have never experienced MMORPG. You know it cost money per month, but it ain't for nothing. People tend to say it's a waste of money though I think it's more like something that make you save money, it's not expensive in a way if you're LEGAL! FFXI cost about 12$ a month & I'll show you why & the reason it really worth the 12$ a month!

Ok, in FFXI there's a ton of feature; Wallpaper in your menu, peoples in the game, quest, mission, your own character, equipment, time & day. You can make your own routine. I meant that you can do absolutly whatever you want as a living in the game. A business, being the strongest or complete the game. Though... it require a lot of times(It's just freaky how much stuff you can do in FFXI). I think none have completed the game & I really doubt in 3 years, lol!

In the menu, there's a chatrrom, your friend list, friend list search & some annoucement(Server Difficulty & Event). Each month there's a magazine where you can read some article about the game & all. You can also browse for ballista(Player Vs Players) tournament, Wedding appication(LOL) & your screenshot you have saved. I forgot to mention that you also have your E-mail(Like every other E-mail) that you can use in the main menu.(I don't play Tetra Master, it's a card game based on FFIX).

The choice of characters to start with...

Elvaan: They're strong & balanced in magic with decent charisma

Hume: They're balanced overall with decent charisma

Tarutaru: Weak everywhere & very strong in magic with good charisma

Mithra: Fast & balanced with poor charisma

Galka: Very strong with poor magic & charisma

From what you see, the graphic are really good for a PS2, very detailled character & animation(FFXI as the best animation in all the MMORPG out there right now). You can play in 16:9 or 4:3 & you can adjust the flicker for those who use component or S-video.

In the game, the maps are so big that it take a least 24h to visit all the map by running(If there's no monsters...). Each map(there's more than 40 maps in the game) take about 15min by running & 5 min with a chocobo. No worry there, once you'll get higher in the game, you can access Airship & going through teleport.

The gameplay seems easy at first because there's no skill when you start. Your character only have the option "Fight" & automaticly attack in each job. It seems boring at first, cause you only watch your character kill the monster. Later on, you'll gain some skill!
Gameplay4battle.jpg

There's 6 jobs to choose(Warrior, Monk, Theif, Red Mage, Black Mage & White Mage) from when you start, though 10 others hidden can be unlocked with quests. You can mix 2 jobs to have some better skills in pupose in battle & that's what make FFXI different from other MMORPG.
Gameplay2job.jpg

Usual party forming is 6 & you can form an alliance along with 2 other party's of 6 so it make a total of 18 players sharing the experience point & the party chat along groups! Party is the only way to makes decent experience point, so don't think getting the game to play alone, lol! Some quest & mission require a party to be able to do it.
Gameplaypeople.jpg

Playing in the field is something. There's a whole concept of economic & times. There night & day & it have it's own calendar(The moon is not the same each night, like the real world). Like I said about economy, the rich control the poor! That's why you hear people getting crazy when they play MMORPG, It have it own world, so beware about it.
Gameplay3time.jpg

All I can say about FFXI, this game is long complexe & you pay for it! No wonder how much you're strong how much you have completed, there's always something to do. Every people you see have his or her own objective & following them or not, you're doing something. Tag along & it will be easier!

Would you have to update it over and over again like the PC version? That was annoying..

It happen about once a month, so it's not that annoying. Though, all the MMORPG have constant update.

I had the "joy" of playing this game upon US release on PC.

The game started out poor. The launch was ok, no bugs, nothin bad like that, went real smooth, but a lot of problems stood in my way of enjoying this game.

1) Can't choose your server. This doesn't let you choose to play with your friends.

2) Pay an extra dollar a month for every alternate character you create.

3) You are known by a handle, this is confusing at first.

The game has its many flaws, but also has many good sides.

Pros:

Great graphics, especially for its time.
Easy system to play with, lots of quests to find.
Cut Scenes, need I say more?
Night/Day/Element system was done great.
Itemization wasn't unbalancing.
Subjob System. Very cool!

Cons:

Great graphics, so many couldn't handle it (On PC)
Grinding. Experience was very hard to come by, especially if you didn't have in-game friends.
Tedious. Everything in this game is tedious.
"Must be a certain level" (to do anything cool)
100 Bucks for the PS2 version, along with a monthly payment.

There are many more things that could be put down in those lists, but all in all, if you want a great looking MMORPG to play with your RL friends, this is the game to play. If you're a casual gamer with no online friends to play with, go play world of warcraft.

Hiya! :D :embarrassed:  Meow! (='.'=)

I played that game for about 6 monthes after it got released. My first character was a Warrior Mithra. I was able to get her to become a level 33 WAR and then got her Dark Knight(DRK) job. Did the sub job quest at that white sanded beach and BAM!

Unfortunately, I quit playing FFXI when I got my Mithra to a level 37 DRK/WAR. She also have a level 15 Thief that I used right before I quit. Back Stab I think its called with the power of a DRK's attack power is fun! :embarrassed:

Too bad I have to quit playing because this game is simply time consuming like nearly ever other MMORPG out there. To me, its like I didn't really enjoy it...but somehow MMORPG got this thing in them that makes you keep on playing...especially World of Warcraft...omg that so ADDICTING.

I played worlf of warcraft up until level 30 and stopped. It seems the game is all the same post 20 until 60 then you're just bored. Doesn't seem to be any reason to pay 15 bucks a month for this particular "MMORPG". If I wanted to PVP I'll go play any other non-payment FPS game, or RTS. Game does a lot of things right, SO right, but so many things it missed, like social interaction, live events, itemization and class balance issues, etc.
