I just got to ask the older people here, what do your kids or wives say when they see you playing GT with such passion?

I am blessed with a very understanding and supporting wife ...
We have an hectic and busy life .
3 daughters 2 dogs and we both work
As for playing PS3 well i guess she likes its better to me playing a game then going out to the pub and getting wasted every night .
Also no matter what , playing on or offline , if they call there is a pause button . I work nights and only sleep around 4 to max 5 hours a day leaving me with the abilaty to schedule my daily tours more conviniently

Actually, the updated OCD is quite the gold mine. Be sure to grab the CLK Touring Car, BMW M3 GTR Race Car as well if you don't already have them - I've got a few of each since they will take different build levels with Engine Stages.

Excellent cars both (for this event even, kitted up), and I've found low-mileage road CSLs and GTRs very difficult to find (most of the standard Beemers, in fact). Those two could also conceivably beat the F1, maxed, on Racing Softs.

The Xanavi, Calsonic, and Yellowhat GT-Rs, and the Epson NSX, can all be built up to around 650, and the GT-Rs are pretty stable with the right tune .

The CLK Touring Car, on the other hand, also gets up there, and has yet more aero. Very dependable. 650pp cars are obviously more of a challenge to keep on track consistently, if not to win with. I should try tuning the Furai... The Camaro SS RM is also pretty decent all the way up to 650. Ooh, Z/28 on Race Mediums, just for the noise!

I've only run it so far in the Takata Dome '03, at 600pp, with Race Hards.
Took several attempts to beat the F1. I'll come back to the Nordschleife (GVS done same way, SSR5 sorta done - R390 beat the Zonda, but doing Madrid with the Takata will kill me), but probably to test a range of 600-650pp cars and tunes. There's a good range of tracks now across the 4 events, and a lot of scope for comparative testing (in the 400 and 500, too - I tuned a Lancia Delta on Comfort Softs in the 400pp at Tsukuba until I got it done , and actually enjoyed it!)

at 33, married, and having an 11-month old son, and strangled to the point of death at work, i thought i am already too old for racing games (most of my fellow race gamers are only half or up to two thirds of my age, very few exceed 30), and dropping by this thread for a deep look and holy mother i thought i came to old f**t heaven.

to OP, and every senior up here, hats off to you all for still being able to handle the quick changing screen movements in GT5, where my old man in his early 60's gave up long ago.

i think if you have obtained an R35 TC, there is also a bit of room for tuning to bring it up to 650PP dead, parts and engine tuning etc to play with, and with it, you have something that eats McLarens and Zondas for lunch (as long as it stays on tarmac, very unforgiving when you cross its line)

Another old fella here, was born in 1951. Just golded the Vettel Challenge last week. Have a DFGT wheel set up so that it can be stored against the wall next to the TV then pulled out and in front of the sofa to race. Our friends find it amusing but not any more unusual than the pool table in our front room.
I got hooked on video gaming back when the grand kids' PS1 quit working. I bought them another then I found I could stand the old one on end and it worked. I had played Crash Bandicoot with the grand kids and had fun with them. Once I had a playstation of my own I looked for a game that I would enjoy and found the GT series. That was about two weeks before GT2 came out. I have been hooked ever since.

Thank you Lustika, what a nice thing to say. I am sure you will do well with your children and grand children. Grand kids are easier, because you can spoil them rotten then send them home to their parents.
The grand kids do prefer Crash Kart Racing to GT though.

I'm 16, and I have 600+ laps on that track ,I did the GT4 Nurburgring 24h race twice [Only a-spec] With the McLaren GTR, I luckily found it once in the UCD and I'm still using it, It's the best car for 650pp races, also the DLC R35 is very good for this races, I don't have it, but there are videos on yt that shows how effective tht car is.👍

I,m 53 years old so wondered are there many older gt5 players?

I'm 47, have been playing since GT1 (I still have the original PlayStation and the games for it). I use a DFP. My daughter thinks it's cool (she's 27) and my wife is tolerant. Won the "Green Hell" seasonal in 6'35" driving the Ford GT LM Spec II Test Car on RH tires (beating the '67 Ferrari), and in 6'41" driving the Ford GT '06,fully tuned but only 642pp on RS tires (beating the Ford GT LM Race Car). Saw times in other posts and thought I'd share.

FINALLY managed to beat the BMW McLaren using R/H tires! Had to fight fire with fire by using the McLaren to win it (by 1 second with a time of 6:26 - just barely managed to draft it on the straight.) Without massively de-tuning a LMP or similar, it's got to be the fastest 650pp car.

Needed to try it several times to learn how to pass the other cars without losing time. There were a couple points I had to hang one set of tires way over into the grass, but I couldn't see any other way to get around them. Also, controller sensitivity 2 helped a lot.

I'm 24 and I use a DFGT - using a Ford GT I came in second well behind the McLaren F1 on my first go. Switched to the Zonda, pissed 'cause I rolled the McLaren F1 AGAIN but I just went for it anyway and he wasn't even in my rear-view at the end. Did I "cheat" by using the Zonda or what? It's not THAT hard and I'm not all that good...

Like I said on the first page, I'm 54 in May, but still a kid. My wife bought me the PS3 & GT5 last Christmas, so she has no real issues. (Had the PS2 with Toca 2, Gt4 & F1 '06. Only driving games for me.) She's only 32 & is a TV series freak, so 3 evenings a week it's her in the room with the hard drive & media player & me in the lounge in the playseat & DF Pro. LOL! Weekends I barely see my pillow before 2.00am, but family life & needs always come first!

I love driving IRL & have had a fair bit of track time. (Heavilly modded Mk1 Golf) My current toy is a Polo GTI & I'm lovin' it! Our friends think it's quite normal for me to play GT5, since they all know I'm an incurable petrolhead. My son & his mates think it's cool, but won't take me on! (Got in the 400's in the London TT over the weekend, so they're a bit wary. I don't know what my current place is, should still be <1000 I guess.)

I guess I'm gonna die a kid & have no problem with that...

I found the FFB in Toca better than the GT games (with MY wheel, at any rate) & enjoyed ol' Scotty & the story line. The AI were real malicious B******S!

what the...? I didn't realise people that old (no offense) played games, I'm only 18 and I've never actually driven anything in real life but for me the best way to improve your speed is to question everything you are doing for each corner: are you braking too hard/soft?, would the car go around a corner faster if it was settled/unsettled and are you going too hard/easy on the throttle out of corners. If you know the answers to those questions and you get a feel for the cars by the way they sound and move then nothing is stopping you from golding any GT5 event.

I'm 44, so I guess this applies to me. My wife doesn't care how much time I spend on the game. It's either the game or TV shows, sports, etc. She actually complains more about me watching sports or racing than me playing GT5. My daughter, 16 years old, will join me for some racing once in a while. She does try to get me to watch some Netflix with her instead of playing. We watch a lot of shows together, but my wife watches her own tv, cause she doesn't like what we watch.

I always thought the average Gran Turismo Player was older than most.
It requires much more patience than other games.
Most of the guys on my friends list are mid to late 20's to 30's and a few in their 40's. Only a few in their teens, as they mostly go around Top Gear Test Track on Racing Softs smashing into the barriers 'Drag Racing'. One exception(that I know of) being doodlemonopoly who is crazy fast in mid-teens

Look on the bright side. If all goes well you should have the chance to get all upset about how horribly you've wasted your life as it is almost over a couple hundred more times. The rest of us... err, them... have already used up at least a few dozen of those already.
