What was the first ever console you played on and do you still have or play on it

Mines was an Xbox one s

My first ever console was the original Nintendo. It is long gone and having emulated some of those games they have aged terribly and I cant go back to play them now.

We didnt have a lot of money growing up so it was more of a case of renting games for the weekend and trying to finish them before having to drop it back to the shop which 9 times out of 10 was never possible as the games were hard back then.

Some great memories. Especially for Excite bike, you can look it up now and it looks extremely basic, sound effects were awful but its all we knew and loved every minute of it.

A tie between OG Gameboy and a Mega Drive imported from Japan.

Unless you count Game & Watches back in the early eighties

my first console was probably an Atari 2600 or something very similar can’t remember the exact make, it had a stunt bike game with handle bars controls , where after a while the end of the line was off the screen and was always great to hear the bike land safely

The first I played was a friend's NES, but my first own one was a SNES and yes I still have it with the Donkey Kong Country that came in the bundle. It's not been THAT long since I tested that it still works, perhaps last year.

SEGA Master System II.

Don't have it anymore but maybe in the future again? I was recently looking at how much Master System stuff goes for these days and it's quite cheap. Guess that tracks as it's probably only middle aged folks like myself who would be even vaguely interested in it.

SEGA Master System II.
Same here, I assume it's still at my parents' house. I bought another and installed it in my first car back in the Pimp My Ride era, it only got used once but it was pretty funny. I remember my younger brother taking a shopping bag full of cartridges to a friend's house and coming home without it in the though so even if we have the console, we don't have the games anymore.

I occasionally still play the official emulator that used to be (I think its gone now) on Steam, thanks to the unbelievably permissive Workshop mod manager you can get any game ever released (and a few that weren't). Super Hang-On is possibly my favourite.

A Game Boy, the original one with the green and grey screen - with Super Mario Land and Tetris. I played both to death. Objectively SML is an awful Mario game, I'll be honest. The graphics are terrible and the difficulty level, particularly in the later submarine levels, is insane, borderline impossible. But I have such insanely happy memories and that bleepy music is ingrained in my head forever.

First played, PS1. My parents surprised me with it when I had good grades at elementary school. Sold it when we moved and we got the PS2.

First bought (handheld), PSP Go. Still have it. I... changed it a bit to play GT2...

First bought (console), PS4. Good console for a few years until I got the PS5.

I had a shared Intellivision with my siblings back in the early eighties.

First console in our home growing up was a ZX81 which dad bought for me to use (we were too poor to get a ZX Spectrum).

First console I bought was a PS1 (and the first game was GT1 of course).

Oldest consoles I still own are the PS3 and the PSP (although I don't have a battery for the PSP - they bulge and become dangerous if you leave them unused too long). PS3 was last used 2 years ago when my blu ray player failed.

First played - Sega Master System. My dad bought it for my sisters and I. I think the 3 games we had were Ghostbusters, Safari/DuckHunt (with lightgun!) and Ghouls & Ghosts.

First bought - Xbox 360 Arcade (just so I could play Oblivion). I still have it, but it’s not been turned on in years so no idea if it still works.

Oh God I totally forgot about the ZX Spectrum. My Uncle used to come over and stay with us over the summer when I was quite small. He always brought his border collie and more importantly a Spectrum in a cardboard box. We used to set it up and watch the lines go up and down the screen as it loaded up (or failed to!). We used to love Scuba Diver, where you had to dive to collect clams, deeper and deeper then into the cave guarded by a massive octopus. I also remember playing Chequered Flag and some Postman Pat game but Scuba Diver was the greatest thing I'd ever seen at that stage! I wonder if he still has it somewhere.

My first computer was an Amstrad CPC464, games were loaded of a cassette tape and took about 15 minutes to load. My first console was a Sega Master System. Later, I had a Megadrive, then the PlayStation after that.

Can't remember as my mum "asked" me to give it to my cousin because I was getting an Intlivision for Christmas. It was blue/grey with orange buttons. Had analog sticks as well. I had two cartridges for it, one was Breakout which I play a lot, the other was multiple variations of pong. It is the only console I've had that I don't still own, apart from my original Gameboy which my niece "borrowed".

My first console I owned was a SNES. The first one I played was a Mastersystem in a shop. The first I bought was a Ps1. And yes I still got all the console I owned, I resold quite a bit of games sadly. Pro tips if you own some old things, before you store them, take the battery off. Or you could have some bad surprise when you want to use them again.

Atari 2600. The OG wood panel one.

Don't have it anymore, but I do still play the games like once a year with an emulator.

I started gaming I think it was on the Xbox 360 and I was playing TY the Tasmanian tiger, then Minecraft and GRID. At the same time we also had a WII on which I would try to play Mario bros and my dad also had a ps3 that I played NFS hot pursuit when I was a bit older.

The first console I bought myself is the ps5 that I bought at 2024 Black Friday to replace our 2014 ps4…

Funny story about my ps5 is that the Best Buy employee gave me the wrong one (someone else ordered it) so in the system it said that I didn’t picked up my ps5. After a month I had a full refund even after trying to explain to the ai chat bot that I indeed had received my ps5.

So in the end my ps5 cost me only the second controller I bought to go with it…
