First time poster, What car should I start out with in the rally series?

In the easy rallies use anything with 200Bhp or more and do the first two rallies at Amalfi and Citta, you'll win the RSC rally raid car for the Amalfi rally which is a proper 4wd rally car and it has over 400Bhp, use that to do the rest of the easy and the medium rallies.

I used the NISMO 270R '94 (S14) you get from bronzing the IB license on the 1st and 2nd ones. Then used the rally raids for all the rest i've done. Thats including some hard (though I escudo'd the tsukuba wet hard).

What would you guys recommend for the Expert Races on Grand Canyon and Cathedral Rocks?

If you want to get relatively easy wins...

First win the Hard Umbria Rally race (I used a well-tuned RUF 3400S and just walked away with it). You'll get the 1985 Lancia Delta S4 rally car -- this car can win all of the other Hard Special Condition races. Even the Wet Tsukuba race.

Good Advice! 👍
I used an un-modded Ford RS200 Rallye Car with similar results. Although the "Road Version" was adequate for most races I just couldn't get around the Minolta Toyota with it in the "Wet." HAD to use the Rallye Ride there...O.G. :D

l agree with Live4speed, Amalfi is an asphalt track, so any decent road car would do .
I won at the easy level with my 1st car: an used tuned Nissan Silvia 1800 Ks , then with a Toyota Celica SS2 ( it was not easy, but it can be done ).
The prize ( Toyota Rally-raid ) car can then be used on the remaining tracks ( asphalt or dirt ).
If you find it too easy, sell the prize car ( $250000 ) and get yourself a Mitsu lancer or a Subaru impreza.

Re-winning that toyota RSC Rally raid car over and over again is a VERY good (and too easy!) way of getting big $$ right at the start of the game... isn't it a bit easy to get rich early on? Oh well I got an Aston DB9 much faster than I thought (20 mins after ripping the shrink wrap, taking my time even... very surprising). It seems however Polyphony choose to structure the game, people will always get really fast cars too quickly and beat the game with minimal effort. I am guilty of this and now it feels a bit like an anti-climax..
The Toyota Rally Raid car is WAY too fast for getting so early in the game IMO. I implore everyone to just leave it sitting in your garage until you've got loads of cash and are further into the game.. don't give in to the evil raid car! Its not as silly as the escudo in GT2 but its still too good and worth too much for winning in the 2nd race I completed in GT4!

It's probably a good idea to start doing the rally events with a normal 4WD car such as a Skyline, Impreza etc with dirt tyres equipped. As you go along you'll win many WRC cars which are better suited to the rally events, and eventually you'll end up with some of the Group B cars (Delta S4, Ford RS200, Peugeot 205T16) which will blitz any competition.

Why do I feel we've been through this...

A fully modded Mitsubishi Galant VR4 will do just fine without killing the competition...

I took a used Mitsubishi Lancer Evo IV... I think, there are so many Evos. Riced it up a bit with a semiracing suspension and went surprisingly far in the rally courses. I'd say do that, the Evos are much too good without being overpowering, if you can restrain your modding urges.

And I have to add my two bits to the "much too easy" advice. I stayed away from the rally cars I'd won, sticking to my "civillian" Evo till it got too tough to win. Keep the game challenging by not hopping on the baddest car you get. When you win a car, take a break from competition and try it out on an arcade track, since it should show up in the list. If it's too awesome, don't use it until you need that extra something to win. It'll make you a more skillful driver if you have to rely as much on yourself as on the car on the track.

Me ?.. A laugh ?.. You _have_ to have me confused with someone else....

And driving skills - Hardly....

I do have an attitude though - but that's probably because I'm old and grumpy.....

Flez thanks For being my Hero i Love you dude,

(Edit Late Night , beer Im Sorry)

I say ya go with the Pugeot 206 Rally Car (sp?) its the most amazing car rally car i've ever driven...acceleration, handling, braking, its got it all...

I think everyone got off topic on this one, lol

I just got an Impreza Spec C, I only have like two more hard races then there all done. BUT it wasnt easy to get this far with this car, so try using it, and when you win the proper rally car such as a delta or wrx , switch to them.

First time poster here too, g'day all!

I would recommend Ford RS200 Rally Car, though I'm not sure when and where you win it. The RSC Rally Raid Car is nice too, but needs some modding - ballast weight among other things. The RS200 too come to think of it. :sly:
