When we bought our house, in October 2007, we knew it needed work. Major work.
Here's the outside, at the back:
And here's the kitchen:
And now...
Conservatory design & build: Mozolowski & Murray. It's 4m long, by 3m wide. Underfloor heating, full opening windows, double doors, and thermostatic roof vents with rain sensors.
Kitchen: Moben. With extensive direction from me: I basically said "Shut up while I tell you what you'll be building for me". The range is a Rangemaster, Samsung fridge, Smeg dishwasher. Granite worktops from Granite R Us, and slate-effect porcelain tiles from B&Q. The floor was more expensive than the worktops.
We moved the washing machine from the kitchen to the downstairs cloakroom, which was massive, and had not only a loo but a bidet as well. We didn't really feel that a bidet offered value, so we put in a washing machine that can do twice the load of the previous one in a single cycle.
We've just got a light to put up above the dining table, and a second coat of paint on the kitchen walls to do, and then we're finished.
We started planning it in October, so it's taken nearly ten months from project mandate to project completion. It's been a hard slog, but I'm really happy with it. We just need to get furniture and a B&W Zeppelin for the conservatory, and we'll have a perfect adult space.
