yeah, its pretty to look at... I often dont use the gear sujested tho.

i wonder if it takes into account any upgardes you have done?

not 4 me...
well, not on all cars anyhow.
doing the beginners type-r I notice the first 90 deg corner it flashed 4th gear but when i did it in 4th the revs either dropped too low or i hit the friggin wall. I dropped to 3rd and was fine and faster than the AI.

I don't always take it's advice, no. But it does change its advice depending on the mods you have done, or how you change the transmission settings.

:D I definitely have to side w/ Ving & Duke on this one. I've found the indicator to be "Off" for my driving style in difficult corners more often than not. Plus because of my controller's well known glitch I have to use AT anyway...UB57
:D

Ya its reasonibly close, but it seems to be for a fairly non aggresive driving style. I use it for tracks that i am not terribly familiar with or with a car i haven't run on that track before and it will usually let me do well enough to beat the ai but after awhile it is just a flashing number due to my more aggressive driving style. Its deffinantly useful though and sometimes is right on, deffinantly worth looking at.

Mostly I use it to keep track of braking points. There are a couple of tracks where it seems to be a little too conservative (I don't need to brake that early for Laguna Seca's first corner, for gosh sakes), and at Tokyo the recommended gear seems flat-out wrong in places, but for the most part it serves its purpose well. Much better than just throwing the car through the turn and hoping it doesn't break loose, anyway.

I've noticed that it seems to take tire wear into consideration too. Not terribly accurate though. It's like those 'recommended speed' signs on the highway...

Its worked for me with some cars. I do pay attention to it sometimes but some tracks I know well enough to remember the gear for turns. You can, however, be a gear higher or a gear lower than the number that is flashed...
