The car list in GT5 isn't 50% made of Kei cars either. You're clearly exaggerating that.
Forza's bias toward sports- and supercars, though is undeniable. That was what I was referring about. As for "real world cars" I meant low-performance cars that are not originarily intended for sports/track day driving, and looking at FM3/FM4 car lists, I see very few of them.
 
It was, of course, a made-up number, hence why I didn't say anything about GT5, actually. But I guess you get my point, with its dozens of Miatas and the crapload of Kei Cars and whatnot, GT5 is biased towards the lower end of the performance scale, and heavily so. I actually don't get what's supposed to be good about that. Forza manages a rather balanced list across the board, with a certain bias towards the "center", which is somewhere around BMW M3 territory. In fact, the only reason to think of Forza as (heavily) biased, I think, is using Gran Turismo as the yard stick.

Also, what sort of "real world car" would you want? Forza has lots of those, it just uses the best performing versions. But, since you implied that you want to modify the cars to be suitable for track racing/sporty driving, I don't get where there should be an issue with that.

I'm actually glad that Forza isn't stuffed with cars like the Prius or the Midget. There are plenty of those dull cars just outside my door, so I really don't need them in a game, too.
 
Another case of someone getting a different copy of Forza than everyone else.

Uhm, excuse me, but you make it sound like Forza's car list consists of 50% high performance super cars and 50% of others. Forza has quite a lot of low- and medium performance cars. If my memory serves, the bulk of the cars is scattered across D, C and B class.

What Forza doesn't have, though, is a car list that consists of 50% Kei Cars and 25% mid-range stuff, with the remaining 25% being taken up largely by race cars. I don't know why it should be needed, though.

You're right, it's a very well balanced car list, but I think the slight bias towards the center of the performance scale was still somewhat noticible - not that thatt's a bad thing. After all, there are far more cars produced in that range than there are super cars, I think.

I agree. It looks like there is a slight bias towards the center of the range, which is hardly surprising (Gaussian distribution and all). But I think you would be surprised if you pulled the numbers. I'm pretty sure they're very much evenly spread out.

A lot of GT fans think different though, like me. I find all the normal cars at least as appealing as the high-end supercars. If I could choose, I would rather see the Fiat Panda as a Premium than the Enzo, yes, seriously. Doesn't mean it shouldn't be balanced though of course, but this was always what I found so appealing in Gran Turismo and I was disappointed that most Premium cars in GT5 were rare and exotics.

Depends on 'center range' for what? Your average outing at a track day? Unless there's a spec Miata race or something, I'd expect just that to be the center range.

If we're talking about daily commuters, than of course not. But that's largely to limitations that aren't modelled in the game. And I surely wouldn't want the game to focused around cars like the Toyota Corolla just because it's the best selling vehicle ever.

Forza is, after all, a racing game. Not an economy simulator. Also, judging by various thread in the "Cars in General" section, it seems that the amount of people who crave driving cars like a base Camry is tiny at best. Stuff like the S2000, that's where ot usually gets juicy.

While that's cool with me, it just opposes what I'm consistently hearing from people talking about real cars. To each their own, of course, it's just so suprising that most people would want to have sporty/somewhat expensive cars in their garage, but there's so many Gran Turismo players who love their econoboxes. Again, that's fine with me, I just wonder where that disparity comes from.

On a personal note I have to agree with this, and while I have found GT5 to be quite disappointing in a lot of areas this is not one of them.

Car lists will always be a deeply personal matter, which is why they can never be 'right'. However for me the inclusion of a lot of regular cars has always been one of the draws of the GT series.

I am with Scaff on this. I too really enjoy regular cars, which is why I pray that my real life regular cars are in the game (and they are generally E/F class).

Luckily, both games are outfitted with a lot of regular daily drivers, so it doesn't seem to be an issue for either one..though they have never had my exact daily driver :(

Using in-game filters might do the trick. When you go to "buy cars" you have access to a range of filters, one of them being the class. Can't remember if the game displays a car count this way though.

Indeed, it's all a matter of taste. I just love to drive cars I know from the streets in real life, cars which friends drive so I can compare the handling from real life with the game and so on. The everyday cars in GT5 (Premium) are mostly either cars you don't see here in Germany, or cars which are too new and unusual (like the Honda Oddyssey). I want to drive a Vectra, Panda, Mondeo, 106 just as much as I want to drive a '69 Ford GT40 (which I miss as a Premium too).
 
I have been playing Race Pro 09 lately anyway. I found out that not a SINGLE person is playing online anymore. :(

It's comments like this that make this thread fun to read.
Common cars driven by common people and no doubt get excited when they see their 'crapload' car in a game. You know, the girlfriend or wife or even the son and daughter might get the chance to drive their car on a race track. Well that's what I have seen playing with friends and finding out that people actually love their 'crapload' car when we are playing GT5.
 
Yeah, I for one prefer to drive "sports cars" over "everyday cars". But I wouldn't mind if my car was in the game either :p
 
When playing with numerous friends over the years and finding out that people in general don't find exotic and sports cars to their tastes. People are normal outside community forums and just might prefer a normal car.
I found crapload quite condescending as what I have found from friends and family is that a car is a car but sub normally not in community forums.
 
What I find in my experience is people using mostly NORMAL daily drivers, tuned and upgraded when racing online.
 
I find that to be interesting, to be honest. Maybe it's because of the people that I associate myself with, but even my former girlfriends and my current one are most likely to go straight for a Ferrari or Lambo, or one of BMW's M cars at the very least. Whenever I had someone over to FM3, just about anything below C class got completely ignored. Aside from muscle cars, that is.

Most people who've even had their daily driver available didn't care much, mostly because their real world choice was largely influenced by monetary reasons, not by their actual taste in cars alone. I doubt a lot of people would be driving old Skoda Fabias or Nissan Marchs/Micars if money wasn't an issue.

But, I guess that's why I like Forza's even distirbution of cars across the performance scale. It doesn't cater to one group of people specifically, but it treats everyone's tastes equally.

That's the goal of petrol head but what about the NORMAL person who doesn't own any consoles. You know the NORMAL casual player.
