I think people are using the wrong word, "update" with GT5 spec 2.0

more like an expansion, considering the GT5p spec 2.0 brought 34 new cars,1 track and alot of other options.

and then later on spec 4.0 brought 3 more cars, evora,california,gt citroen.

in all it seems rather promising.

How do you know "update" isnt the right word to use? I guess nobody "knows" due to the excellent communication PD has with gamers. We can only guess.

But people getting hopes up and expecting something great, might be a little upset.

I am interested to see what they do, but dont really care if that makes sense. If it comes out all cars are premiums, sounds are much better, a livery editor, tire model, same physics online as off, loading times improved, damage improved greatly, better mechanical damage, then...I will go from "dont really care" to "Super excited". But I have a strong feeling that aint going to happen.

Your expectations are really high, I see.

I expect a few extra cars and tracks (fingers crossed for El Capitan and Citta Di Aria), maybe minor updates on the physics. Little things that makes the game closer to perfection.

I have both Forza 3 and GT5.

Forza 3 has:
-livery editor
-Fujimi Kaido
-Better engine sounds
-All cars which have cockpit views
-Drag

GT5 has:
-Amazing physics
-Huge car collection
-Rally, kart, and NASCAR (I spend about 60% of my time on those)
-Track editor
-Weather effects
-Day/Night
-Compatible with the G27
-Better replay value IMHO
-Online mode is much better, although not as smooth

For me GT5 is better by far, but they are both excellent games. I still play Forza 3 just to do some touge racing.

-Amazing physics FF is good. Tire model? Hitting foam barriers were like hitting a brick wall. Damage? Can go 200mph hit a wall and keep going? Superman physics I guess..
-Huge car collection I only drive cockpit view so 800 dont work for me.
-Rally, kart, and NASCAR (I spend about 60% of my time on those) All those are 1/2 baked, IMO. I want NASCAR Ill play NASCAR2011, Rally Dirt. Kart? Was fun the first 2 times.
-Track editor Too limited for me to care for. Again 1/2 baked.
-Weather effects Some tracks, 1/2 baked.
-Day/Night Same as above.
-Compatible with the G27 I got a GT2, so..
-Better replay value IMHO After weeks trying to get into it, I sold it. Bored me to death.
-Online mode is much better, although not as smooth Dont find it fun, especially with physics being different from offline, and the drafting was over the top.

For me GT5 is better by far, but they are both excellent games. I still play Forza 3 just to do some touge racing.

The reason my expectations have to be high for me to take a serious notice to GT5 again.
 
They got to do something with the GT5 interface and loading times... drove me crazy. That and the lack of a damage model, and sounds, has it gathering dust. Maybe, just maybe, they will add something worth a "little" track time.
I have enjoyed Forza 3 and 4 is looking better. Maybe by the time Forza 4 looses it's shine (year or two) PD will release GT6.
 
To be fair they did spend a majority of their time building a whole new physics engine from the ground up.

I'm sure the next game won't take as long, but I seriously doubt next year, and I'm not entirely confident on 2013 either, but there's no way they'll take as long as they did with GT5. Unless for some reason they throw away their physics engine and start from scratch again.

And that article is missinformative, it was clearly stated that the " Top Gear Soccer Field" is an included not on disc dlc. And the Top Gear challenges are a damn leaderboard, which obviously exist in the servers, which they control.

I'm quiet confused with that, how bad should the physics department be to spend 5 years on building a physx engine which isn't even that great and is inferior to PC sims and in some cases to FM. For example the brakes lockup, which isn't even there, it seems like there is permanent ABS turned on, drives me crazy and makes it a lot easier than FM3.

I am all for VIP codes, as well as content only available if purchased new. I like to support the industry....the game development one that provides us entertainment, not Gamestop which exploits both developers and gamers. What Kreepa said is the truth.

Surely PD didnt flaunt away the musuem cards, seasonal events, or login bonuses like they were going to do it the proper way... But l also never heard t10 say that it was going to be a main feature on the disc. More like a well thought out "how to do" side project done right. Something PD couldnt accomplish...

Well just updated GT to patch 1.13. Wow that's a lot of fixing.

Had to update my PS3 first 3.72 I think.

GT starts up and says my date and time is wrong. What's that all about.

On topic.

Forza updates are quicker.

Yep everytime you start it up and after midnight it pops up. Something to do with Daylight Savings time. Wish they could just fix the damn clock.

Doesn't matter whether it's not getting the Spec 2 update or not getting the Top Gear Football thing.

Also, I'm still pretty sure that there won't be much free content added with the Spec 2 update. Why do I think so? Well, because PD also announced DLC. It wouldn't make much sense to give cars and stuff to people for free if you could just as well go and sell it.

As others have said, though, it would have to be something big to make me care about GT5 again. Which could happen, but it could as well not happen. We'll see.

Kinda interested to see whether PD will be able to keep the timeframe they set for the release of Spec 2, though.
 
I want to say they'll stick to the schedule because it's been so long since the game was released. But, on the other hand... that was my reasoning for thinking GT5 would be on time - it was so long since GT4 :P

I'm thinking if it's old tracks brought back, or Standard converted to Premiums, it'd probably be included in Spec 2.0. DLC is probably (hopefully) new-to-the game cars/tracks. At least, that's my thinking.

A livery editor is still one of my most-wanted additions, even though it'd probably be next-to-useless on the Standards. Something has to be done to improve the awful paint chip system, at the very least.

Yeah, same question here.

Isn't the point of DLC to be, ya know, downloadable ?

I bet the same people are bitching when DLC are just unlock keys :lol:

Furthermore, TG Soccer is only playable online (cause Forza AI can't play car soccer), so you *do* need an internet connexion to play it after all.

Can't really see what's wrong here.

You would expect this spec 2 to be good, seen as they have had half a Forza game development cycle just to update (or as I would call it, 'finish') the game

I will be buying GT5 again if it finally lives up to what it should have been in the first place.

Of course, it's not as if Japan didn't have a massive earth quake or have half the staff number of the Forza Franchise working for them.

Well, if they want to spend their budget (which is pretty big, appearing in the top ten of the most expensive video games of all times) on something other than employing more workers, who's to stop them?

Anyways, good thing those horrible events didn't stop Kazunori from taking part in the 24 Hours of the Nürburgring 👍

Jesus christ, the lack of logic in your post is baffling. GT5 took 5 years. Yes it had a 60 million dollar budget, but how much does each iteration of Forza cost? They've had 3 games in the same space of time with double if not tripple the production team.

And the 24hr of Nurburg was late June. Not April or May

It looks like the clutch now works without any "triangle button trick". I haven't tested it thoroughly, but it seems to work, on a basic level at least. What problem have you encountered ?

Also, as you might now (or might not know, who knows), T10 outsourced a lot of the modelling to countries with significantly lower average wages than the US or Japan - which will usually lower the price per manhour.

But, yeah, maybe we should just assume that T10 is just keeping their mouths shut about making one of the most expensive games ever, right? :sly:
 
Nah, I'm fully expeting FM4 to have a relatively large budget. I'm just not expecting T10 to be on a "second most expensive console game ever" budget.

All I'm saying is, the "lack" of employees is hardly justifiying anything, seeing how much money PD has at their disposal.
 
Yup, agreed.

But I'll even go as far as to say that it shouldn't matter though. We *do* pay the same price for both games after all.

The average cost of ps3 and xbox games is 20-30 million USD. Forza being a game that relies alot on licenses could be argued to cost upward of 35 million. Also factor into that advertising costs as well.

So in that 5 year period, Forza could be argued to cost around 105 million or a more conservative cost of around 90. 10 million more then GT5's budget over the same period.

I'm not saying that GT5 has provided thrice the game either 'in fact I think that Microsoft should be applauded for producing so many titles in that time period' but don't sit there and tell me that Polyphony should distribute their cash better when they're not at all that different.

And it's not like Forza have built entirely new gaming engines for their games either. The physics engine has been similar from Forza 2 onwards.
