Do you drive with your fog lamps on?

its the guys who leave the rear ones on thats the problem because you can't see when they brake (thank god for the central brake light!)....
Huh? The only kind of rear foglight I've seen is a single one down low (in fact, the new Mini is the only car I've noticed with a rear foglight). They make ones that increase the brightness of the ordinary taillights?

That's about as retarded as red turn signals, especially in taillights that use the same bulb for braking and turn signal duties (something you'll only find in the u.s. as far as I know). I can't count the number of times I've been passing through the blind spot (never lingering) of a Dodge Caravan or something of that nature when suddenly their taillight blinks, and then I'm left wondering for a moment if they briefly tapped the brakes or if they're about to merge into me. It's an easily-remedied problem that shouldn't exist to begin with, and what's worse is that some american cars have amber turn signals, and some don't. WHY????

Like you said, at least there's the third brake light. You know, the one that seems to be the first to go out in older cars.

It's sad but true. Our Volvo has them. I'll have to check and see if they still brighten up when you hit the brakes. I don't think we have ever driven with them on.

The rear fog light is the same brightness as normal brake lights (NOT tail lights), thus reducing the effectiveness of the brake lights, especially in the U.S. where people aren't accustomed to the rear fog light. Aware of this, I use my rear fog light only on extremely rare occaisions. It does not light up any brighter when braking, or dim when not braking. In my vehicle, it can only go on when the headlights are on.

Mini did it right an didn't put the rear fog in the tail lights like many auto makers do. I think it's nice to have on the car though so it low visibility conditions...something we get frequently here in Michigan...some idiot in a Dodge Ram doesn't run me over.

I don't know about the US but in Europe a lot of cars have twin rear fogs usually located in the same cluster as the brake and indicator lights.. so everything it in one area which makes it very dangerous to see people braking... However most cars, like the new mini here has the twin fogs mounted low by the wheels so people can see the brake lights.

I haven't seen a car yet that uses the brake lights as fogs by just turning the brightness up though.

I can imagine it must be really scary in a Mini in the US seeing as you have tanks that could literally run over you if they didn't stop!

I see a lot of Mercs that usually have one brake light on and I figure it's a prick that doesn't know his tail lights are all fed up. After hearing about this rear fog light concept maybe that's what it is? Either way it's pretty retarded here since we never get fog. And yeah it's more dangerous because no of the other retards on the road will know what he's doing either.

This morning it was a bit snowy and foggy so naturally many people felt the need to run their fog lamps, visibility wasn't really poor at all so I did not run mine. One thing really perplexed me though, why on earth would you run your fog lamps if one of them is burned out? The one thing that really annoys me is people who do not replace burnt out bulbs, especially fog lamps. If you are going to drive around with them then at least have them working correctly.

Yeah, that's a rear fog light. You'll also see it on various Euro cars, such as Audis and VW. Most in the US don't even know that they're seeing a rear fog light.

I always have mine on when the headlights are on. It's nice to have the peripheral illumination. Or I have them on with the running lights when it's not quite dark enough to have the primary lights on. But mostly, I just think they look cool.

Well you are not cool but rather a bit sad. I cant stand all the fools who drive without their headlights on in the dark because they think their fog lights do a better and "cooler" job.

They might make a cool looking photo but they do not make for a safe driving experience.

I agree with all the people who are constantly blinded by truck and SUV foggies (actually just clear driving lights), and HID real and fakers get annoying...but make older lights look dull and yellow by comparison.

since I actually live in a rural area (unlike, it appears, the majority of posting users), these kind of lights are a godsend because of the populations of large critters that are crossing the road all the time. also, I tend to have to drive at the precise time that fog is thickest...and critters are at their most active.

to the Europeans: remember, America does everything its OWN way. including rarely using amber turn signal lenses.

as for me...i need MORE rear lights. my 4runner has only two relativly small rectangular brake/tail and the plate lights, and that's it. I would suggest someone invent a converter for toyota's turn signals in the front for use as fogs.

Proper HID's shouldn't annoy you because the cut off line should be below your vision, that's why they are projectored. It's the aftermarket ones on I hate because they are too blue and have no cut off line.

I also hate the people who position their headlights up eye so that they shine further away but also just dazzle all the cars that are infront of them.

Sad? I don't think so. Like I said, when it's not dark enough to have the headlights on (10-15 mins before or after sunset/sunrise), I have just the driving lights on. This time of day it's really not necessary to have the headlights on, but it depends on the conditions at hand. Do you turn on your headlights right at sunset? Most people don't. I agree, that picture would be too dark for this. It just made for a good photo and I put it up to show what my car looked like with them on. I'd never drive with just the foglights when it's that dark.

Unless you have a dumbass in a lowered Audi w/HID and it's bouncing along... There have been stock Audi's that hurt my eyes even from their stupid lights reflecting off my rear view mirror.

Right. My car has a cut off line that is probably a little below the height of the headlights. It probably would get annoying with all the bobbing that happens with the auto-levelers trying to compensate for the bumpy Seattle roads. But they really do make the road much brighter, so anything lost from a lack of visibility to oncoming cars it gained in being able to see everything in dark roads.

Could be misaligned, people don't seem to get misaligned headlights are just as annoying if not more annoying then people driving with their high beams on. I already had the Cooper's HID's adjusted because a few people had flashed me for blinding them...not wanting to be an asshat I took it to the dealer and had them fix it. It shouldn't take more then 10 minutes to adjust your lights, even if you are doing it yourself.

they are more annoying... Its like the difference between shining an led light vs a regular light directly at your eyes.

That was uncalled for. No need to insult the guy. He said when it's kinda dark not completely dark. I do the same as I've had rocks break my bulbs when I drive with my lights on, so I'd rather have them down as long as I can.

As for the fog lights they usually come on with my head lights cuz I don't drive around dusk most of the time.

Oh yea nice third gen TA, RedTransAm. Love those TA's.

I don't have fog lights, but I do want to get some PIAA (or similar) driving lights for my truck. Don't worry, I promise off-road use of them only ;)

I can't believe there are actually people who drive with their front and rear fog lights on all the time. I wonder if you guys realise how annoying you are to every other driver...front fogs I can almost tolerate, but rear fogs? Not so much.
