People will buy a hatch if that's what they want. some will buy a traditional coupe if that's what they want. I think it comes down to new buyers. Maybe the Impreza?Evo crowd that want something that will remain in the lineup for a few more years.

But it's a brave new world for British Ford enthusiasts. They've had access to good performance hatchbacks (or the like - MkI & MkII Escorts) since the mid to late 60's. A proper high powered, muscle car coupe is largely a new concept.

The Capri covered similar territory, but only with the rarer V6 versions. A majority were cooking 1.3, 1.6 or 2ltrs. The new Mustang comes only in two higher performance flavours.

Is an affordable large car in the UK a Passat/5-series etc? The Mustang is just as big. Hey, If it were as small as a Capri(or 86) I can see people lined up. It will be interesting to watch sales figures for sure.

That's why it's a genuinely interesting alternative. Same price, same power, same badge but a totally different experience.
