StarLight Garage presents another Roush classic racing car, the historic Ford Roush Mustang from 1985.
A powerful racing car for it's time with 800 wild ponies.
From this car there are many bodies and liveries but I like this orange (chassis 007) in particular.

Towards the end of 1985, Roush also created a Mustang bodied version, built to the nearly identical GTO specification. It was raced in the IMSA season finale at Daytona, scoring a debut victory.

During the 1985 season, Roush fielded the Capri in Trans-Am and the Mustang in IMSA GTO.
The two cars were so closely related that the same chassis was raced as a Capri one week and a Mustang a week later. It was another hugely successful season for the team, clinching both championships.

Ahead of the 1986 season, chassis 007 was sold to Whitehall Rocketsports. Re-bodied as an Oldsmobile Toronado, it was campaigned by Paul Gentilozzi.

For 1986, Roush switched to the Mercury Merkur for Trans-Am, while the Mustang continued to dominate the IMSA GTO class.

By 1987, the Roush-prepared Mustang was finally showing its age, although Tom Gloy still placed second in the IMSA GTO championship. Over a dozen of these silhouette racers were built and several were raced for many more seasons with a wide variety of bodies.

Between 1988 and 1993, it was raced by Craig Shafer in Trans-Am.

Chassis 007's contemporary career continued into the 2000 season when it was raced by John W. Bean. During the following years, it was restored to Ford Mustang configuration.

By 2014, it has been re-restored to its original Mercury Capri guise.
