Depends on the car maker.....You talk to someone who has a very small market and a very choice few people who are willing to buy...it could go either way.

If few people are going to buy, I would want to put it out in a place with lots of people, which would mean that there is more of a chance that someone would buy my product. No matter if your market it big or small, you aim for the most people, which is the best way to make a profit...

yes, but even in that case the 5 series and that entire group of cars in that $45000 and up is a small player in comparison to honda with their accord, or toyota. both of whom sell probably a million units or so combined compared to less than a tenth of that as BMW 5 series sales.

by saying they should concetrate on that 95% of the market in two countries, you are indirectly implying that they could ignore that secondary market. and create a product that is either inferior to the required one for that secondary market, or inappropriate. in which case you yourself are insinutating that that product would not be suitable for all markets, immediately disqualifying it from "best sedan in the world" status. because world is inclusive of all markets.

to whomever said it, i will argue BMWs with anybody out there. i own and drive one, albeit old, my brother has one on my recommendation as do other members of my family, and more importantly, i am passionate, but not blindly so, about the marque. i get their magazine and participate in bmw forums and get togethers.

Sales have little to do with how good a car is, especially when relating two completely unrelated vehicles. Accord v 5-series in sales - the Accord wins?! Mad!

 You've laughably taken an odd, vague example and blown it well out of proportion. Now it makes no sense. It has to be the best car in every single market? So for Antartica, they need an AWD, raised hatch five with ice-repellent and other anti-ice things? And India, they need it without major features so poor people can buy it?

Come on!

ALL THINGS CONSIDERED, the 5 is the best car in the world. Is my opinion. Keep telling me that they're ignoring 5% of the market. I'll keep not caring.

so my example, which clearly indicates why the BMW 5 is not the best sedan in the world is laughable.
you just pointed out that a four wheel drive would be preferable in antarctica and a stripped model for india. thats entirely my point. that means in those markets, which are a part of the world, the 5 is laughably unsuitable.

it might be semantics, but it means that the 5 is not the best sedan in the world, period. which is what i have been saying all along.

You're still not understanding my point.

ALL THINGS CONSIDERED it's the best. Do you understand what 'all things considered' means here?

Well i'll tell you right now, a BMW 5 isnt preferable in zimbabwe, because it costs to much and would get stolen in an hour.....
It's also not preferable in Russia where their economy is crap and the cost of petrol isn't that pleasent, meaning a V8 isn't desirble.........so...best.....hardly......Since there is no "best"

it would appear that you have no understanding that all things considered means that things like price, seating capacity, fuel economy, variables in foreign currency exchange, an individuals disposable income, etc etc etc have to be considered. thats what ALL implies; you are considering all things.

I was trying to come up with a way to explain it, but what's the use? You're not paying attention. Have fun in your Maruti (that's the most popular car in India - guess that makes it the best car on Earth, right, Logic Man?).

so instead of capitulating properly you're going to give up on explaining your off the wall rational.

i never said the maruti was the best car. i just said the 5 sereis wasnt. just goes to show your arguments are oblique.

👍 Yeah.

i never said the maruti was the best car.

But wait - it suits India. And that was your one and only qualification. So it's the best! Let's all go to the Maruti dealer and pick up a fully-loaded model.

You should look into a job selling Acuras in Texas. 👍

just goes to show your arguments are oblique.

No. It shows that I'm sick and tired of arguing with complete incompetence. Something has to be the world's best sedan, though you've probably eliminated all possible winners because they're ugly.

since there hasn't been a vote in a couple days I'm guessing everyone who's going to vote has voted so i'm going to make a new competition whicht should it be:
audi vs. bmw
or porshe vs. ferrari vs. lamborghini
or not make a new one at all

But wait - it suits India. And that was your one and only qualification.

:banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead: :banghead:
that was my argument to disqualify YOUR point about the five series. what kinda stupid strawman arguement is that? you cant even get your points straight.

So it's the best!

 :banghead:  :irked: :( :O
i thought you said the five was the best. now you're saying the maruti is. get your facts straight.

and yes, you are saying it. not me. i merely argued against the 5 as the best sedan given your lack of qualifications. if you said in its class, for those with the income to support buying one etc etc we would have never had this entire argument. but you didn't. instead you simply tried to bully your point across but i was not moved. and i clearly pointed out how it could not be, and disqualified it simply because its not accessible to everyone. and you still dont get it.

you are the one who argues with incompetence. your argument here, which has merit BTW, has no foundation because all the support you try to give your argument does not discount or exclude the points that i presented. your argument would hold water otherwise. but i guess you're too self important to learn from others, or to simply say i'm right and modify your position a little bit, or you are too used to arguing with people who dont know how to construct an argument or have no idea on how to destroy one or expose gaping big holes in them. well, i do.

welcome to the big leagues.

the five series is not the best sedan in the world as long as price is a factor. as long as fuel economy is a factor. as long as foreign currency variations are a factor. as long as other variables are a factor.

the 5 is a superlative vehicle, best in its class the world over. but not the way you put it.

:( I thought I had my points straight. Guess not. :(

I think a 5/Maruti clone would be kickass! With eleven seats! We'll call it, the, um, Maruti! Yeah!!!

Yes?

Whoa - make that bigger next time.

are saying it. not me.

Oh, I thought it was you. My mistake!

i merely argued

Agreed, it wasn't the best argument I've ever heard, either...

against the 5 as the best sedan given your lack of qualifications.

Just because I'm unqualified doesn't mean the car is!!!

if you said in its class,

If I said, "I'm jumping off a bridge,

for those with the income to support buying one etc etc

because I'm arguing against somebody who's still missed the point," etc etc

we would have never had this entire argument.

But we did, because you don't understand 'all things considered.' Still. Must be a desolate life.

but you didn't.

:( I promise to do better next time! I'm going to the Maruti dealer tomorrow.

instead you simply tried to bully your point across but i was not moved.

You're right - you didn't budge an inch! Not by logic, not by common sense, not even by clear thought. Way to stick it out!

Yaay! There's more!

i clearly pointed out how it could not be,

It was clear to me. Not sure what 'it' is, but I'm sure you're right. You're so clear!

More! More! More!

disqualified it simply because its not accessible to everyone.

And, as I may have said six zillion times, WITH THAT CONSIDERED, it's still the best. You've crossed the incompetence barrier! You're the Concorde of incompetence!

Yaay! Still more!

you still dont get it.

No - I get it. In order for something to be the best, every single person everywhere on planet Earth has to be able to afford it AND it has to suit their every need. Naive? Well no - it's "clear".

you are the one

Bow to me!

who argues with incompetence.

Agreed. Didn't I just said that?

your argument here, which has merit

Well thanks.

has no foundation

I'd better start digging one! Got a shovel?

because all the support you try to give your argument

I try and I try and I try.

does not discount or exclude the points that i presented.

You're right. Your points are perfect. You're never wrong! Maybe "you are the one," not me!

your argument would hold water otherwise.

Yeah - but not when I'm arguing against you, Mr Perfection!

Call me that again and I'll have you deported!

So do I. Frequently.

you're too self important to learn from others,

True. I'm the one who would've won this 'argument,' after all, if I had been arguing against somebody with any logic or common sense.

or to simply say i'm right

I would, but I generally side with common sense - not against it.

and modify your position a little bit,

If I were wrong, I would've. I was arguing my point. You still don't UNDERSTAND my point. How can you say you've 'beaten me' when you don't understand what I'm arguing about!?

Eh! Still more.

you are too used to arguing with people who dont know how to construct an argument

Yeah - it is tough to argue against you when others actually used common sense. :(

Jeeze - more!?

have no idea on how to destroy one or expose gaping big holes in them. well, i do.

You're right - and you did it so well!

welcome to the big leagues.

It would be the big leagues, except you've forgotten rule one: in order to fully understand your arguments, you must understand your opponent's. And you're still in the dark about that one.

the five series is not the best sedan in the world as long as price is a factor.

No, here, listen: ALL THINGS CONSIDERED (all things, oddly, includes price) it's the best. ALL THINGS ALL THINGS ALL THINGS ALL THINGS ALL THINGS...

as long as fuel economy is a factor.

...ALL THINGS ALL THINGS ALL THINGS ALL THINGS ALL THINGS ALL THINGS ALL THINGS ALL THINGS...

as long as foreign currency variations are a factor.

...ALL TH-- foreign currency variations? Heh.

as long as other variables are a factor.

Yeah, those "other variables" can be tricky.

the 5 is a superlative vehicle,

Cool!

best in its class the world over. but not the way you put it.

...in your opinion.

And that's really all that matters to you, isn't it?

PS - the reason you're still wrong is you can't seem to understand that I'm saying the 5 is the best value sedan in the world, making it the best sedan in the world. Your problem is drawing distinctions between class, which, for value, you shouldn't be doing. Mmkay?

i can go at this all day too.

as long as price is a factor the 5 is not anywhere near the best sedan in the world. all things considered means just that as you said. but you're not considering it it would appear.

Something has to be the world's best sedan
not really, people like different sedans. If you like the 5 series then good for you, not everyone does theres no point arguing, so many factors can be considered it just comes down to what YOU like.

👍 You rule!! 👍 But you still don't understand my point of view. Which is why this argument stops right... here!

Wow, Doug, you've really got that quote **** down, eh?
That was like... 694 quotes in one post.

Yeah - usually when I quote one or two words out of context at a time, it really pisses off people, so I try to do it in arguments like these.

PS - how's dating your cousin, you hick? Go on AIM so I can insult you more.
