After the enclosed space of Monaco, Formula 1 heads to Catalunya for the last Grand Prix in Barcelona for the foreseeable future before this race heads to the Madring (yes it is called that). Since the removal of the heinous final Chicane racing has improved markedly at the well-known Testing venue - also probably helped by the fact that Pre-Seaosn testing has been at Bahrain mostly in recent years. The long and high-speed corners test tyres to the limit, and we will have to see who comes out on top. McLaren still are the class of the field, but Verstappen is always there. Let's get ready for the SPANISH GRAND PRIX!

I went to testing in Barca once, I was in Barcelona for my birthday in 2011, realised I was there at the same time as testing so got a ticket for I think 10 euros for the day, my ex got dragged along and she just read a book all day lol.

Was there all day in the sun (was quite warm even in March!) with roving grandstand access and got to see Schumacher drive for the first and only time. It was so quiet, hardly anyone was there. That was also my first ever live F1 experience.

Great track to watch F1, good views all around. Pain to get to, though.

However I read a few weeks ago that it's an ALCOHOL FREE EVENT.... Honestly, being sat in the sun with a beer watching the F1 was so good, why did they do that I wonder 🤔😢🍺

Been waiting for the new thread to go up, but it's not here yet, so here goes...

I will be popping down to Catalunya this weekend and need tips if anyone has any. I don't have grandstand seat.

So far, I've identified the following:
1. Best viewing spot is around turn 4/5/6 on the hill inside the track (so there must be a tunnel under the track as I've not noted any bridges driving around in FM23, GT7 etc?)
2. Take lots of water (allowed up to 1.5L) - are there water filling stations? And suncream obviously.
3. Taking an umbrella with me to keep off sun when I can.
4. Get there early as possible (though in my case I have transfer from the Hotel so arrival time won't be down to me).

Much like my bottom after sitting on the hill all day, to any tips you can provide on here, I say grassy ass ;)
Any tips for this weekend will be gratefully received 👍

Have you been to an F1 race before? Are you after F1 spectating advice or just Barcelona specific?
Not been to a F1 race before (although I've been to other races before eg Brands Hatch)
Any advice would be welcomed, but Barcelona specific preferably (i can usually work out "common sense" things myself).
Apologies, I don't really know what questions I should be asking. I am expecting a lot of crowds of course.

My instinct is to find a spot as soon as i arrive and then stick to it, so as not to lose it, although I prefer to walk round tracks a bit otherwise you only see a fraction of the circuit.

Are there any other good non-grandstand viewing spots at Catalunya other than turn 4/5/6?

I know nothing of Barcelona, but here's my advice for how to enjoy an F1 weekend. This advice works for the days regardless of if you only have 1 day there or all weekend.

Friday - roam and explore. Find out where you can watch from and try to get different views. If you're there for the 3 days this is how you find where you want to be on Sunday. Try to get into spots where you are either close to the F1 cars or have a good view of the high-speed corners. Direction change is where F1 cars are at their best so try to be near T3, T9 or the final 2 corners I'd suggest. Try to be in a different spot for each F1 session to get the variety. Enjoy the support Series' where possible, as they'll have fewer eyes on track you can also use these to get the better views. Also if there's any off-track entertainment you're interested in, this is the day to try it out as the queues will be crazy on Saturday and Sunday (plus you'll want your eyes track wards)

Saturday - A bit like Friday, you'll have a bit more freedom of viewpoints, however there's now racing. Get there early because the F3 race is always first. Here's where you want to get a view of the start straight or Turn 1. Also get into position for the F1 Qualifying where you want to see them best.

Sunday - Make sure you know where you want to watch from, get there early and join the rush to get the best spots first. In General Admission areas, it is first-come-first served, so if the spot you wanted has already been taken, choose something close enough and passable quickly before it's gone too. Once there, pretty much stick in place all day until the Grand Prix is over, because space moved or lost will be claimed by others.

Either way, if this is your first F1 experience, enjoy! The spectacle of F1 cars at full speed is never truly appreciated until you see them up close and in real life.

Side note:
If you want to take pictures, Friday is also the day to do it for the reasons above, maybe Saturday during P3. Things won't be as hectic and the drivers will be going a lot slower for better pictures.

The pattern says this is one of Max's podium weekends, and the track should suit the Red Bull anyway. Mclaren claim they won't be affected much by the updated front wing rules, probably because that's just one of many parts on the car pushing the boundaries of legality (as should be expected for a championship contender).

Breaking news! Hadjar is quick at Tilt A Cup timed at 1:00.00 exactly

Well, new directive in place and McLaren seems like they are still on top....if that's truly the case, I can't wait to see Horner's face if the McLarens win again this weekend and Max barely makes the podium because now the Ferraris are right on their heels as a result of said directive...this would make my weekend 😂

It still boggles my mind that say two years ago, McLaren were still that team that won in Monza that once but hadn't had any form of success in over a decade. And now in the last not even 18 months, that's what, 12 wins and a constructors?

I have skipped today as i needed some time to recover from the heat and effort from walking around the whole track yesterday.
Plus i like the hotel breakfast

I will be back there for the race tomorrow. I only spotted ONE SINGLE viewscreen visible to general visitors yesterday, at the inside of turn 6, all the others can only be seen from grandstands - disgusting (but not surprised sadly)!

Some more photos from yesterday:

Yeah. Verstappen should be closer in quali but those papayas are still flying. Piastri in particular looks so much more in control vs Monaco last week.

Red Bull need to find another part to moan about to the FIA.

Verstappen will definitely be closer in qualifying. Mercedes should be closer too but there's no way FP3 is representative. If it is then, wow.

Ooof....I hope those times are just FP3 and the rest of the field perhaps did not fully turn up their engines because if it is not then we are right back to where we were a few years ago when someone completely dominated the field.

Why did Nico Rosberg say 'unfortunately' when saying that Piastri has the momentum?

I'm calling Max for pole anyway.

Russell is up there with the Mclarens on the first run. Max as well.

Going out in Q1 at this track in particular is pretty bad for Tsunoda. I don't get it.

Marko already writing Hadjar contract for Red Bull...the 2nd red Bull car chewing and spitting out more drivers 😔

The Mclarens starting to stretch their legs. Meanwhile Lewis joins the battle for 3rd.
