10 sec penalty...what a joke

I think Maldonado did something similar and he didn't get much either. So at least it's consistent.

You know we were talking about Stroll having the only points, Hulkenberg has been carrying Sauber as well.

I feel like the safety car was gamed way too much. Out too long and then Piastri doing a brake check is deplorable.

Max should be flagged but Red Bull did absolutely nothing to help their lead driver from the 3rd stop onwards.
They had to wait for the last car in the points to catch up, they were half a lap behind with the wave around.

Back when Vettel intentionally crashed into Hamilton during the Baku safety car in 2017, he got no penalty at all

Edit: this is wrong, it was a 10 sec stop-go

Well! Safety Car made for an exciting end to the race.

Another solid performance from McLaren. Not a fan of Piastri braking so hard before the SC ended.

Wasn't expecting Leclerc to get a podium. I would've put money on Max or George.

Hulk P6!

I'm impressed by Hadjar quietly going about his business and collecting decent points.

Alonso P10! Hard to believe that was his first point.

edit: Oh crap! I didn't see the final final results that put Max in P10 and bumped Hulk and Alonso up. 😮

P9 for Alonso.

Is it possible that move was on purpose, but the contact was accidental? Not trying to downplay the stupidity of it, but to deliberately crash into another car when the cars so fragile beggars belief.

If they wave cars around then dont allow some of those fighting for points to catch up then you have a bigger problem.
Why? They were a lap behind to begin with. Safety cars always have a bit of luck surrounding them. If there's no rule requiring the safety car to stay on until they catch up, they shouldn't wait for it.

With that much adrenaline and red mist, anything is possible, see Michael at Jerez.

This was my gripe as well. One thing if you don't accelerate as anticipated, quite another if you potentially cause another safety car while under the safety car.

Contact was deliberate. It looks like he was trying to make "a point" about what George allegedly did at T1 on the restart and go "well if that wasn't a penalty then this is fine". But Max has not been penalised for dumb collisions like this plenty of times in the past so it's refreshing to see some consequences.

Max currently on 8 Penalty Points, 2 of which expire at the end of June.

This isnt Lemans and 3 safety cars. Either you dont reset the field and let the leaders fight with lapped cars or you reset, doing it half way is points shaving and race fixing.

Thinking it over, I was 100% willing to give Max the benefit of the doubt when GP told him to let Russell pass, because the earlier clash between the two was totally on Russell. Red Bull made a frankly dumbass call, which understandably pissed off Max even more after being put on hards. Him running into Russell killed it though. Still can't believe that the stewards didn't Black Flag Max for that one.

Happy for Nico's result today, and for Alonso to finally get some points on the board. Sad to see Lewis' race fall apart in the last laps. The Safety Car restart also left a lot to be desired in terms of how it was handled.

Letting lapped cars pass is not about resetting the field, it's about safety, to not have them in the way of faster cars during a restart.
