Newey's been having lunch with the team responsible for this year's car, so the upgrades are actually good.
But he cant improve a design if it is a polar opposite of your style.
2026 will be 100% his own design.

Piastri going for the undercut but a poor stop doesn't help.

Piastri came out a few secs behind Tsunoda, who's on the hards and will turn into a mobile chicane very soon.

Alonso has his own little booster jets.
Might explain why the car is so good

They tried to undercut.
They did the undercut with Piastri. Norris hasn't pitted and if he does now he'll come out in big traffic somewhere around Leclerc.
It seems they're trying the split strategy, Norris still on a 1 stopper like Verstappen.

Piastri might be screwed actually.
Yeah, definitely feels like they brought Piastri in a tad too early.

Meanwhile, Carlos is predicting that Albon will attempt a 1-stop strategy. Williams is running pretty good this weekend, so I'm curious to see how that plays out.

I think everyone who has not pitted yet is doing the one stop and it looks like the right strat to me.

Piastri thinking "what's the issue? Passing here is easy!". Unfortunately h's having to do so much of it. Looking like McLaren borrowed the Ferrari strategist today.

It almost seems like McLaren is really banking on a safety car to help Piastri.

Edit: Well, close enough...

VSC. Norris screwed, karma for his Miami gains. Didn't help Piastri either, too far to go back on the mediums. EDIT - now he pits.

Wonder why they put hards on.
Medium should be able to do 30laps.
They did 30 laps already and that was with a full fuel load.

Soooooo, there might be a potential Williams podium in the works now...
Don't think Albon can hold off Piastri for 30 laps. 7 sec gap at the moment.

Yeah, I realized that as soon as Piastri pulled in. However, if the race graphics are to be believed, Piastri is apparently on used hards.

In any case, it looks like it'll be a spicy fight for P2-P5.

He's already taken 2 more secs back on those used hards. 4th would still be great, and hopefully Hadjar can hold off the Mercs and Ferraris for his own top 5.

Oh well. Lewis on a mission.

Well, that went south.
