Formula 1's Magyar Nagydij returns again for the 40th anniversary of the Hungaroring joining the F1 calendar, a space it has stayed every year since. This impressive run continues and once again it marks the last race before the Summer Break. A return to the top step for Kimi Antonelli in Belgium brought his title contentions back to the fore after a small resurgence by Ferrari was stopped. Russell seems to be in a bit of discontent with the treatment at Mercedes he is receiving, but will this all turn out to be a mountain out of a molehill, or something much more sinister? Who knows, but if Aston Martin's update that promises to bring 2 seconds per lap is anything to be believed, well then that'll just get the up to Cadillac, as that was their gap last time out in Belgium. For everyone in the team's sake, let's hope the new car at least looks like it wants to turn a corner as we head to a track only made of them at the HUNGARIAN GRAND PRIX!

So after high speed tracks which were absolutely terrible for keeping sufficient charge we'll now probably have the complete difference with just corner after corner. Maybe this layout can give us a better race under the new regs?

Hmmm....Who is that supposed to be 🤔? It's not Antonelli, is it? If so, I don't think he has the stats yet to claim that title, especially not when Hamilton has 9 pole there and has won the event 8 times over the years.
 
Just to bring it here as well; the last time there was an F1 race following Spain winning the World Cup 1-0 thanks to an extra-time goal, the winner was Fernando Alonso.

Maximum copium from this old, old fan hoping for number 33.

If Fernando Alonso won this weekend, it would be a bigger upset than Olivier Panis' victory at Monaco in 1996.

For the season? Absolutely would rank there. However, I would be very shocked if Alonso both won the pole and the race, which Maldonado did.

This would probably be it alongside with Panis. As both came from midfield or worse.
 


16 upgrades bolted onto the Aston Martins, basically the front suspension and the engine are the only carry overs it would seem.

Driverwise, you could split hairs about pre-leg break Panis/Fisichella and Diniz/Firman but the 2003 EJ13 was indeed a way worse car than the 1996 JS43. The Ligier scored more points with points only going down to 6th and not 8th and usually ran higher up the field than the Jordan did.

The Jordan probably is the worst Grand Prix car to win a race, certainly in the post-Concorde agreement "modern era"; the Stewart SF3 was very competitive in the upper midfield in the hands of Barrichello, Vettel scored points 9 times with the Toro Rosso STR3 and the Alpha Tauri, Racing Point and Alpine were all much better than the EJ13.

You gave me something interesting to consider.
 
Hopefully Lewis can get his first GP pole with Ferrari at the circuit he got his last pole with Mercedes. It would be great if Lewis can start a winning streak from this point onwards, still opportunity to break the record with a bit of luck.

Oscar didn't get to run the upgrade yesterday but he has Budabear:



Hopefully upgrade is enough to be able to compete with the Mercedes. Red Bull seem to be running quite low on power so maybe they will get in the fight too. Ferrari usually use the old PU on Fridays so hopefully they are sandbagging and can take a big step today to make it easier to fight for top positions. Mercedes managed to turn it around for Monaco, I wonder if they can take such a step again today.

I remember the season started with him binning it trying to put pressure on Alonso. He did get the last laugh as his win at Alonso's home grand prix costed Alonso the points needed to win the WDC in the end. I still remember him botching up DRS application on his pole lap as we got to see his lap after Lewis one got excluded. It is actually more memorable with the podium celebration and fire starting in their garage as I think most GPs are celebrated more in a normal way so harder to remember. FW34 and STR3 are probably some of the greatest Formula 1 cars that finished so low in the constructors with the level of performance they showed. It would be great one day if teams reveal the downforce numbers of cars in past championships.

So far it seems positive for them, correlation looks good and as expected which is the main thing going forward. They have state-of-the-art facilities and funding needed so could get very strong quickly. I think it must be much more of a difficult situation to be in as for example Haas when you know you don't have the people or the budget as the others to even think of competing on a fair level or Williams who have put a lot of resource to deliver a subpar car and you have to wait all the way for Baku to see any meaningful progress.
 
Alpine and Mercedes have the highest top speed so far in FP3 206 mph, Aston slowest at 197, and the rest 201-203.
