Formula 1 heads to the Red Bull Ring for the second of its two Grand Prixs this year, but it's holding it before this time. After hosting the first ever Double-Header in Formula 1 history, the Red Bull Ring will host a second Double-Header in a season where that is not needed any more. The Austrian Grand Prix next week will be the second race this year, so therefore the additional race is now first, so we are in Styria first. Off the back of an excellent French Grand Prix (I told you Paul Ricard wasn't bad), we head to another circuit which has produced enthralling races before. The Hamilton vs Verstappen dogfight is living up to the hype, even if it is being fought between the strategists at the moment. Neither driver has taken it too far yet and they're both respecting the fight ahead of them. Will Red Bull's backyard be the beginning of the spark that breaks this truce? Who knows, but we'll find out at the STYRIAN GRAND PRIX!

Because there seemingly has to be some weekend long talking point every weekend, now that flexi wings are old news, this weekend there will be new technical directives regarding pit stops.

TDs are not made public unless journalists share them so it's unclear what the changes are for now but Marko recently suggested that Mercedes were going to complain about something RB were doing, so this may be it.

This finger pointing is just getting worse. Shut up and race!

What the FIA have said actually does make sense. Up to now teams have been signalling that steps of the pit job are complete before they are complete, because they know that by the time the jack man reacts to that signal the job will be done. The danger being obviously that if something goes wrong and the job isn't done, the car could be releasing in an unsafe manner, or there could be injuries like the Ferrari guy a couple of years ago.

So now they're saying you can't signal a job is done before it is actually done, and if your reaction time is beyond human ability they'll know you're anticipating.

What doesn't make sense is why now, when there haven't been any recent problems relating to this. Why does this change need to be immediate, and not next season?

Pitstop is part of the race. Years of training and with this FIA directive it'll cost them* about 0,4 secs which is a lot nowadays. Was/is it so unsafe that this directive was necessary now?

*RBR = 0,4 has been said by Dr. Marko during this FP1 in Austria.

We don't need slower pit stops. With tyre changes done in under 2 seconds, the team's are STILL cautious about anything other than a 1 stop race. 2 stops is already a massive risk and 3 is just stupid. Slowing down the stops will only make everything even more into a 1 stop race.

I wonder if it has anything to do with Monaco mishap by Mercedes? I read somewhere recently that Bottas' wheel got stuck b/c they tried to do it too fast. This seemed supported by a commentator during the last race that Mercedes was not going to try and do a lightning fast pit stop to avoid the issue.

Maybe Merc. is trying to slow others (Red Bull) down through this?

What is this whole pitstop drama? Toto (among others this time) should stop crying and git gud.

A new rear tire spec will be brought to the next race for testing. If the test is successful then we will see this new spec at the British GP.

So much for blaming the teams…

Not to excuse Bottas' terrible driving, but why were the McLaren guys just hanging around in the pitlane anyway?
