Somehow after 23 rounds we enter the final race of the 2025 season with 3 drivers all in contention for the Driver's Title. Will Lando Norris or Oscar Piastri win their first title, or will Max Verstappen make it 5 in a row? If you're expecting an awesome wheel-to-wheel duel to win the title, I'm sorry to inform you that this finale takes place at Yas Marina and the racing rules this year are a joke. But who knows, we might get a classic and we live in hope for it. This race is also an end of an era, with many "last races" for aspects of the sport. This is the last race of the current Ground-Effect era of cars (2022-), the last race of the V6-Hybrid engines (2014-), the last race for Yuki Tsunoda (2021-), the last race for DRS (2011-), the last race with a 20 car grid (2017-), the last race for Sauber (1993-2005, 2010-2018, 2024-) and the last race of predominantly carbon-coloured liveries (2023-). Who will come out on top for the first title decider with more than 2 drivers mathematically in it since 2010. Who will be the new Petrov or Latifi? Is Sonny Hayes going to score a remarkable victory? We will find out at the ABU DHABI GRAND PRIX!

Difficult to do from 17th on the grid...
Yuki going to get the pole and win! He has never been beaten by a teammate here. Hopefully Max can't use new power unit and Yuki can use his, he will be like a pocket rocket. It would be great if Lewis can join him on the podium.

Expect most cars to be competitive here, an end of an era. Remember how most teams struggled with it, I reckon because of people switching teams, it became more common knowledge on how to develop these cars the right way.

Will be interesting to see if there will be any gamesmanship. Hopefully the title is decided on performance than any mishaps, prefer not to have a start like last year. All three of them seem to have a decent chance of winning heading into the race on the seventh with seven wins apiece. I wonder if any teams will decide to take a fresh power unit for this race or if they might be forced to turn power down a touch which could help teams who have already taken additional power units to be more competitive.

I mean, McLaren essentially used gamesmanship on itself for the past few months so why not?

I’ll be working nights this weekend so i’ll miss out on the live coverage. Last time I worked nights on a title decider weekend was in 2021, I tuned in right when Latifi put it in the wall.

I know its required in the rules, but it is astounding that McLaren came into the final week of the season with both drivers fighting for the championship and one of the drivers needs to give up his car for a rookie to run FP1. They really enjoy shooting themselves in the foot don't they?

And they implemented additional rules about not sharing information between drivers this week.

Seeing how far off the pace Oscar is, it probably does them better to have him play defender if he qualifies behind Lando.

Bortoleto: "Who's that Ferrari?"
RE: "Leclerc. The Big Leclerc."

You might not have seen this in the Mexican GP thread:
Roo
The Race have an article on why there's so many FP1 rookies this weekend; basically the first free practice sessions in Mexico and Abu Dhabi aren't that useful as they're not representative of the rest of the weekend because the track is so dusty in Mexico and FP1 is run in the daytime when it's really hot in Abu Dhabi, so it's not much, if any, of a penalty to sit it out.
The reason half the field sat out FP1 is that it's the least problematic practice session of the season to lose.

Hopefully they don't have to make the call. Norris' practice pace looks very good, he should be ahead of Piastri anyway.

Norris looking quick.

Bearman very impressive again. Ferrari might have something special on stand-by there.

I may have made a big boo-boo. Gave notice to end my Sky F1 sub a few weeks ago and they tell me it’s due to end on the 7th. On Sunday. Those gits are sure to switch it off around 12:59pm GMT.

Race might be decided before then. Ask @Jimlaad43 if you can visit.

This is not plain sailing for Verstappen and the McLarens. A few others interfering in the title battle.

Those intervals, so far in Q1...

Piastri with a stonking lap. Don't use up all the pace too early Oscar.

Is it me or does the start straight look like there's a load of smoke hanging over it?

If the race finishes the same as the Q1 results, Piastri would be champion by 1 point on Norris and 3 points on Verstappen.

It's generally a bit foggy around the track
