Hmm, Eddie Jordan says Hamilton should have really only been disqualified from Q3, not the entire qualifying process.
Saying it was completely the wrong move from the regulators :grumpy:

The problem was a bad wheel gun person. There was nothing wrong with the wheel nuts, the axle or gun. It was a tried and tested method that is proven slower, but quicker if it goes wrong.

The new system is generally faster but if it goes wrong they have to get a new wheel to put on which I think means they have to change the entire set.

So they could have a much worse day as the wheel nut and axle are the same materials as they had all year.
 
You're not penalized for running dry after the race because yellow flags, red flags, extra pitstops due to accidents and whatnot can take their toll on fuel consumption. Run your car too light and you may either run out before the finish or you'll have to cut down the fuel trims mid-race, making you vulnerable to overtakes, losing you places.

So why did they redesign the cross threaded wheel nut for this weekend?

And if it was the mechanic, what's he doing now? Still changing the wheels or serving tea?
 
Lewis is definitely the fastest man on the track in my opinion, if the Mclaren boys don't mess up the pitstops he might have a shot at top 6. It's cooler today, so maybe the Mercs will be able to spring a surprise on the cars in front.

You say that but Brundle has said that the track temperature has gone up 5 degrees since his gridwalk.
 
If Maldonado leads into the first corner he will win. If not though it will be a Lotus.
 
Matty - McLaren use different materials to everyone else. It's not the method of the captive nut (the nut is integral to the wheel) that's the problem, but McLaren's construction.

Pretty much everyone uses aluminium hubs and nuts. McLaren use titanium hubs with aluminium nuts. Aluminium is softer than titanium and this generates a problem - as anyone who is familiar with what metal gaskets do will be aware. Hot titanium hubs can lightly warp softer aluminium nuts including the threads. They can strip threads taking the nuts off but they can also cross threads putting them on - the titanium just chews through the soft aluminium threads. However, they don't need to apply as much tightening torque so the stops are slightly more efficient.

Seeing that the Ferrari is a bit of a shed, if Ginsters can stay with Alonso, he should be able to make an attempt or two.
