Heading into the second race of the Americas Triple-Header, Formula 1 heads down to the traditional Halloween weekend visit to Mexico! The party atmosphere of the world-famous celebration of the Day of the Dead in the city makes this event one of the most artistic and passionate events on the calendar. Filing the circuit through a proper Stadium section helps a lot too! Max Verstappen's imperious run of victories continued last time out, even if McLaren and Mercedes ran him a bit close. The high-altitude always means the cars are running with maximum wings, but still have the lowest downforce of the year and the highest top speeds. This also means struggles with cooling, which sadly has been the story of most of the races here, which usually end up being pretty dire. Still, the best races in 2023 have been in the perceived "worst for racing" in Singapore and Monaco, so maybe we can continue that streak here at the MEXICO CITY GRAND PRIX!

Will be interesting to see if Ferrari struggle like last year for speed. Hopefully Mercedes don't go too conservative on ride height and cooling, potentially best chance so far this year if they get the setup right to challenge again for pole and get a win finally. The upgrade from last race should help especially in the middle sector and the free drag reduction update from the altitude should help too along with Mercedes having a strong ERS and it being a shorter track.

A lot of people are saying the Merc might be really strong here and Ferrari will struggle. Looking at the result of those 2 practice sessions, they don't seem to be in the picture at all. I know it's still early days but McLaren might be the team for Mercedes to beat cause they certainly are not that close to Red Bull to even contemplate a possible chance of a win for Lewis (which is what quite a few people have been predicting including Will Buxton).

Great to see Williams 1 lap pace is great. Mclaren and Mercedes have fantastic race pace, but Mercedes just can't get that 1 lap pace in. Red Bull will probably still win with their superior tyre wear on race day.

Well the FIA set a precedent with letting Verstappen off lightly in Singapore. Now we see the results of not punishing drivers correctly.

I think it's those softs. They seem to eat them more than others. Both cars are great on mediums though.
They will eat through those too tomorrow, unless they find something soon.

Mercedes found speed! Probably ran on empty though.

Edit.

Aww. Albon out, wide at 2. Zhou back in.

I keep forgetting Ricciardo's back. Where the heck is he finding that kind of pace in the AT?! 😮

And WTFerrari?!

Ricciardo could be P3 if they penalise Verstappen properly. Must hurt for Perez being beaten by the sister car driven by the pretender to his seat.

Yeah they basically said they'll try to win but they already know it's not a realistic goal....thing is they might fall behind even the Merc I think. In any case, we'll see how it goes in the race.
