so what’s Mexico’s beef with Lando? why the booing?

so what’s Mexico’s beef with Lando? why the booing?

I was puzzled by that, nothing during his interview that I could hear and then after they spoke to Max and went back to him it all started. Very odd and quite unnecessary.

VSC because Sainz's car was smoking and needed marshalls on track, and race control was likely spooked by the earlier Lawson near-miss.

That actually makes sense. Watched some replays and I don't think Max deserved a penalty anymore. It was always on the edge, but I think was OK.

Hmm, I thought it was only the chronically online part of the fanbase who believed the conspiracy theories, but it seems the real fans who go to the races are on Team Piastri as well

(or it is just because Lando was mean about dear Checo)

Bearman's great result jumped Haas over Sauber for 8th in the constructors championship, and they have a shot at beating Aston and maybe RB if Oli continues like this & Ocon joins the party.

It seems to stem from fair/unfair treatment and reversal of mishaps which McLaren have been engineering between the drivers - the perception being similar to Schumacher/Barichello and Vettel/Webber incidents of the past where apparent favouritism was shown - as Norris was booed during the qualifying interviews too.

Autosport has an article about it: https://www.autosport.com/f1/news/why-norris-was-booed-on-f1-mexico-gp-podium/10771809/

They're putting blame on Hamilton for that contact, in determining it's a racing incident? I mean, they saw Verstappen slide and countersteer into Hamilton, right?

And "front axle ahead of mirror" means "entitled to the racing line" since when? What was Hamilton, the lead car (and with his front axle so far ahead of his rival's mirror it was also in front of the front axle, front wing, and nose), entitled to then? I always understood it was an entitlement to space, not an actual line...

Also, I just spotted that in the Turn 4 contact, Verstappen left the track as well  Just regular Verstappen up the inside and running full width to the outside and you yield or we hit each other stuff they're still not bothering to punish.

Edit: Omfg, I just read the other docs as to why Hamilton got 10s. It wasn't for failing to follow the escape road- he got no penalty for that - but for the advantage gained by leaving the track and not yielding the position to Verstappen...

... the position Verstappen got by hitting Hamilton mid-corner, then leaving the track at the next corner and gaining ten car lengths and not yielding the place back, and Verstappen also left the track in that corner too.

So he overtook a car off-track that was itself off-track and which gained the spot from him by going off-track, and that's a ten-second penalty :|

My take on this and the turn 1 shenanigans - bring back gravel traps and dump these stupid "dive to the apex above all else" guidelines.

As for the specific HamVer, I don't know if a preceding incident cancels out a penalty. In isolation Lewis did gain a lasting advantage & in isolation Max gained a lasting advantage from the previous corner. I'd have just lumped it all together as one connected chain of events and given them both a 10 sec penalty (no penalty for the Max divebomb under the current rules).

Or better yet, no penalty and let them race it out.

When VER completely left the track the second time in T4 in Lap 6 after initially pushing HAM off at T1 and cutting T3, VER just rejoined the track before T5 and pushed RUS off-track. That was how BER passed RUS + VER and ANT got past RUS. Only thing happening, +10s HAM...

They (the FIA) are trying to recreate/manipulate an Abu Dhabi 21 title showdown between Lando, Max & Oscar for extra ratings.

So Max won't get penalised from here on out just so there's a possibility of bringing him closer for a title challenge against the McLaren pair.

Max could reasonably have been at risk of getting four penalties in that race:

Cutting the corner and gaining an advantage (Lap 1)
Causing a collision (Hamilton T1)
Cutting the corner and not ceding the advantage (Hamilton T2 and 3)
Forcing another driver off the track (Hamilton T4)

With him on 9 penalty points, any number of these could have ended up adding up to Max getting a race ban for Interlagos, which F1 don't want to do (despite it being long overdue). Now the penalty points from Mexico last year have expired, Max basically has a few "free" penalties he can incur before the end of the season.

That penalty was definitely controversial IMO. On one hand, I get it because it did look like Lewis gained an advantage. On the other, Max got off track twice, pushed others off track and nothing. It's really unfortunate though cause that just about wrecked Lewis' race...not sure if that was true but I also heard that he may have had some floor damage as well by cutting the grass...in any case, it was disappointing because I was looking forward to finally seeing him on the podium but its looking more and more like this might be his first season without a single podium...which is quite something.

Good on Max for keeping the championship alive. Hopefully Piastri can bounce back in Brazil. He will need it because his run at this championship seems to have completely ran out of steam.

Vegas should be another good Ferrari track. There’s still a little hope for a Lewis podium.

People on Reddit noted Max gained quite a bit of time on Charles as well when it was a double-yellow when they should've been slow. Looking back, looks like Max came in at .895 behind & by end, was .594.

Finally saw the onboard and trackside footage of Lawson vs Marshalls. Jesus, man... someone could've gotten really hurt. Or worse. 😤

Just been rewatching. At least Max had a bit of an excuse for overshooting turn 1 (very dusty on the outside) but Leclerc is ridiculous. A little bit of bumping with Lewis before the apex but then he just turns left and zooms off over the grass. Makes no attempt whatsoever to follow the track. I guess when you’re that handsome you can get away with anything.

Worth noting that despite this being a good track for McLaren and not so much for Red Bull, that Max is 4 points closer to the championship lead than he was before the race - now 36 behind Lando.

yeh, it is logical enough that much more has been spent supporting Lando and Max so there's more pressure on return on investment and likely bigger markets for gaining from extra sales of sponsorship endorsements etc. Close show is preferred and even particular driver/s would be preferred - not sure if the weight would swing as far as AD21.

How funny was Ocon defending on dead tyres against Piastri like it was his last race to prove he deserves a seat - so desperate and futile and even reckless. There was just no need and he almost caused a collision with a title rival, However he would likely get no penalty as the powers that be would be pleased enough with swinging the points.

I am not sure what the benefit of the first lap soft rules. It's clear that Verstappen made a fake attempt at overtake (although was never going to stick) and avoided having to defend 4th position - most people disregard Russell's complaints but if Verstappen actually approached at the speed to take the corner he would have had to defend 4th... However he would have just pushed Russell off the track at T2 without penalty so now I egress there should be no complaint from Russell (/sarcasm).
Sure Le Clerc gave first place back, but he 100% avoided any challenge for 2nd place. If they are just going free-shot first lap, why did Le Clerc even give first back?
