A trip into the Alps is next on the Formula 1 calendar, as we head off to the track with the shortest laptime of the whole year. The circuit at a higher altitude will challenge the team's Turbo size choices is different ways, and the layout with so many good straights in a row will hopefully show off the strengths of the new Overtake mode for a thrilling race of passing. A strategic masterclass last race by Ferrari helped Lewis Hamilton deliver his first win for the team after an incredible middle stint and breaking the Mercedes monopoly on wins. The second half of this lap is likely to show off the strengths of the Ferrari, whilst the first half is where Mercedes and Red Bull should be challenging to be fastest. Mercedes may have had the fastest car, but reliability of the engine when pushed is certainly hampering both them and McLaren this season, what will occur this time out? ADUO upgrades will start appearing for some teams, so if the order changes, we will only find out at the AUSTRIAN GRAND PRIX!

I hope this one and Silverstone after it will be a total banger this season. Also hope to see if the rumored Ferrari ADUO upgrade will really make that car go head to head with Mercedes. Saw on YouTube that Red Bull has a big package coming too, it would be crazy if suddenly Max is also back into the conversation, maybe not win the WDC but definitely stealing lots of points from the top contenders to keep anyone from being able to run away with it.

Additionally, there's a story on Reddit that Mercedes' diffuser introduced in Canada may be headed towards a ban potentially as early as this weekend.

In other news, the role of FIA president has been formally changed to FIA dictator, with the term limits being scrapped, and requirements for being eligible for the role being increased. MBS is trying to make this a lifelong role. He is allegedly also trying to get the age limit scrapped.

Not that it's a fair forecast but I'm about 2 hours or so away from Spielberg and it's hitting 40° here, possibly even 40+ on Sunday. It's going to be a very hot race.

Yup, looking like a scorcher even up the hills.

I went for the 2019 race there and it was high 30's there that day too. A day sat in the direct sun was difficult with not enough water or suncream. Good luck @Aesthethica

This is a far, far better photo than the rubbish Autosport has given us over this subject - even when highlighting the spikes, they did it in dark blue so you couldn't see any detail. Given the potential towards safety, I can see why the FIA released a technical document effectively outlawing them.

Cadillac are having some horrific reliability problems. Perez has broken down on both sessions, while Bottas is now driving around with what looks like collapsed suspension.
 
They widened the exit of the last corner substantially
 
Took about 4L of water, several sweaty hours in the sun, and over 6 miles of walking, but I can now officially attest that F1 in person is as cool as I always imagined. And who can deny that T3 view?!?
Very happy to see McLaren off to a strong start this weekend, although Lando doesn't seem entirely comfortable. Pity about Sergio and Cadillac. I think I heard he only got 14 laps in total today.
Also, the Tifosi really don't play about cheering for their drivers every single lap. Even in practice. Its gonna be a long weekend 😂

Two practice sessions in, and Kimi Antonelli already looks like the benchmark. Sunday could be his race to lose.

I think it was like that last year too. Couple years ago so many drivers kept going wide and getting so many lap times deleted during qualy and during the race. The solution was to extend the track and that's a result of it.

And I'd assume the paint is because other classes still use the old track limits.

Edit: he's claiming he did a massive lift, and still got more than 2 tenths?

The green isn't track limits though, that's a section of actual race track tarmac painted green with kerbs.

Soo, apparently the stewards deleted the lap time for George, but they also ruled no further action for the double-yellow infringement, so at the moment, it's looking like George Russell is keeping his pole position.

It seems like it's going to come down to is what the actual lap data says for George vs. the timing of the stewards waving the double yellow. This is...a bit of a mess, to say the least. :boggled:
