they forgot the little red part at the nose tip on the renault. they also forgot to make the main driver's camera structure-thing red.

nevertheless, it looks awesome.
Yes, these are obviously in very early development, plus the game will be on thr 2006 season, so the small details aren't needed, it's basically a demo atm. Though I thought they would have at least made a skin for the Michelin tyres

especially considering most of the grid runs michelins.

It ran the Unreal 3.0 engine in real time, flawlessly. That's more than enough reason to believe it's capable of something THIS simple.

What looks good is only a product of the lighting. Everything else is pretty simple in this game...I don't see why you guy's think it's so complex.

A blind man could see that this is no ingame footage.... Are you all crazy or what ? Look at this closely... ? I don't question the power of the PS3, but this is simply a rendered video, nothing you could play yourself in this quality... It's a render intro...
People like you will be freaked out at launch and yell at Sony that they all lied and why first generation games don't look like Silicon Valley Supercomputer - games .... I always thought : Where are all those people that jump on every hype they get offered and then back in reality at the release day they start crying ( example GT4 )...
Now I know.... no offense, but I guarantee you (99%) that you won't see a F1 game with these grafics, probably even not at the end of the PS3 era in 2010....
I'm not talking about individual aspects of this video ( as there are of course huge improvements ), I talk about the whole package, whcih can't be accomplished that way... Mark my words and when I'll hold my fresh copy of the imported PS3 in hands next spring we both will know that I was right... If not (1%) I'm happy to lose this one....
Killzone could be ingame... looks impressive as hell, too, but all the movements etc seem much more like something playable....

I just saw the crash scene, pretty impressive. I mean the damage on PS2 is pathetic, F1 2000 (on PSX) has a better damage system than F104!

Considering what I saw in the E3 Sony conference video, I'd say yes, they are. Anyone else watch the whole vid (the one thats nearly 2 hours long).
I downloaded it from IGN last night, but I only got to see 10 minutes of it so far. Gonna watch the rest when I get home.

Its all really good.......especially when the UK guy shows all the graphical things it can do.....well worth watching and it answers alot of questions in your head!

I may not be the first person to say this but, in regards to the akward movement of the cars in the video. is it posible the Video is squashed a bit. the cars look kind of narrow sometimes. Admitidly it's been a while since I've seen a formula one race so i may be wrong, but the movie being squashed would account for the cars wiered movement.

To me it looks about 20 or 25% too fast, like old newsreel films.

Yes, it really looks awesome, but....we should wait.

I remember having seen so many F1 games that were promising so much and then disapointed me....

i'll say that that crash looked incredibly unrealistic. it was like that car was made of rubber or something the way it bounced of the wall.

That's why I don't GT4. It's too fast. Well, I can handle it, but it doesn't look real. It looks less like a simulation. The F1 video was very twitchy. Notice the cars seemed to slow, then burst forward, then slow, etc. They aren't finished with the title. As was said at the beginning of the new game footage, "Games are still in developement. Things might look a little raw."

Yes thats what I'm talking about. To elaborate, watch it again, the cars move normal as they move toward and away from the screen, but whan they move from one side on the screen to the other they move too fast. like it's squished
->[ ]<- this way. like the presentation was in 16x9 and adapted to 4x3 for the online vids or whatever. Just watch it, its consistent that side to side movements are too fast.

Nah, I think they just got the physics wrong. I just watched the video again in the Sony´s conference, and although the graphics are superb the cars moving are weird and unrealistic. Still, it was just a tech demo, I´m sure the game will play great.

I will try and confuse me big bro with this screen shot and a real photo I hope he gets confused about which is the real F1 game on PS3.

Not much of a contest - while the SS is amazingly realistic, I think with a real photo next to it, the SS will quickly be picked as the fake one. :) The computer generated lines are often just too crisp, and the colours just a little too rich - these are the things that usually give them away.

Have a look on the 'net for 3D pictures people have created - some of those are real hard to pick...

(yes, this was drawn on computer)

see http://www.raph.com/3dartists/ for more...

💡 Maybe that would be a good thread for someone to setup - real or PS3/computer?...

That Formula One game... is KILLER! It looks like the way I'd see Formula One racing on Speed Channel or something. Only difference is that you probably won't have the wonderful commentary of Bob Varsha, David Hobbs, and Steve Matchett. But like I said about Gran Turismo 4 before it came out, racing games have come a long way. It's gone from (in terms of open-wheel racers) top-down to Pole Position to Indy 500, to Formula One World Championship, and now this masterpiece. When I first seen the second picture, I thought it was television coverage with a video game disclaimer, all to find out that it is actual game coverage. Many of us aren't going to be blessed with actually racing for a Formula One team, but this is about as close as we'll get. The detail is amazing. You can't say enough about it.

Okay, you can pick your jaw up off the floor now and wait for this game to come out. ;)

So you all think that this is ingame grafics ?
I really don't think so... that is maybe the intro but that's it...

If that were really the case I have seen better pre-rendered CGI intros on my Dreamcast.

Well, even if it is not rendered... the point is that you won't actually play the game with these grafics, maybe the PS3 can do these grafics but not with interaction...

You are on the crack pipe.

What makes you think you won't be able to play this "with interaction"?

Let's think.

Unreal 3.0 Engine. Includes:

Physics
Fully Adjustable Camera with controller input

So...if Unreal can do that. Which is FAR more demanding than what is presented in this demo.

But think as you wish, I'm just trying to inform you.

edit: and it's graphics. If you are going to try to present a logical arguement and sway us into your zone, you need to at least understand what it is you are saying. Again, if you can't spell it, I'm sure you don't know the in's and outs.

I decided to bring this thread back to talk about something that kind of has me ticked off about the game. I don't know if this has been discussed before, but obviously I think this game looks amazing. Looks like I can play this game and have no idea if I'm playing a video game or watching an F1 race on Speed Channel (I'm not really an F1 guy, so how can I be sure?). Anyhow, sound off on this article in the August 2005 edition of Official PlayStation Magazine:

Formula 1
Judgment: Who Cares? (The judgment is if it's realtime or pre-rendered)
-----
"It's not that we dislike Formula 1 racing, but this is a pretty unspectacular demo. The physics look way off, which is usually a sign that the demo was prerendered, and the cars don't look spectacularly better than some of the stuff we've seen in the current generation. The lighting looks good, though. Huzzah for lighting!" -Official PlayStation Magazine, August 2005 magazine, Issue 95

Sound off! To me, I don't buy what OPM is talking about. This may all be old news, but I seen the E3 videos on Formula 1. And this bad boy is b****in'! I'm still looking forward to it though I'm not really an F1 guy. I couldn't find a decent thread devoted to this game, so I'm bringing this back.
