Two race weekends to go and the final Sprint weekend of the championship beckons as the middle part of the triple-header could see the Drivers Championship won. Lando Norris' 24 point lead over Verstappen and Piastri means he just needs to outscore them by 2 points over the Sprint and Grand Prix to be crowned champion - plank wear notwithstanding. McLaren may be on the back foot after Vegas, so who will get the points here or will be have a three way battle for the title in Abu Dhabi? We will only find out at the QATAR GRAND PRIX!

It should possibly be a solid race. McLaren have been able to nail high speed corners & this track has plenty. Qualified 1-2 in Sprint '23 with a 1-3 finish, & a qualifying 6th & 10th that resulted in a 2-3 finish. Similar story last year, 1-3 in Sprint Q with a 1-2 finish. Lando bungled his race day with the 10 second penalty, though, with Oscar taking 3rd.

But, Max & George also did well here.

Getting nervous now. Really want either of the McLarens to get the WDC.

Nothing against Max.

Piastri isn't that long in F1 but if there's a track he shines regularly it's Qatar. He won both Sprint '23 + '24 and finished 2nd and 3rd in the GPs, always in front of Norris. Last chance opening up a little door having a shot at 2025 WDC at Abu Dhabi.
Same for Max.
Norris has anything to loose but clearly stabilized 2nd season half, did a great job (or multiple...) and I guess he will bring it home if not hit by "external problems" like technical DNF, getting crashed, DSQ, etc..

Mclaren claiming (even this week) they wouldn’t ask Piastri to help Norris whilst he still mathematically had his own shot at the title.

But Oscar says they did ask him. The behind-the-scenes story of this season will be a fun read in a few years time.

I mean, from Piastri's quote the "discussion" could have just been Stella saying to Piastri "you're still in the title battle, so you have our support". Nothing more than that rather than a full blown conspiracy.

Oscar doesn’t say they asked him though?

Edit: I think you’re misunderstanding the quote a bit. “The answer is no” to the reporter’s question if he would help Lando. Not to a hypothetical question he was asked by McLaren.
They discussed team orders internally briefly and dismissed them apparently thereby the answer to the reporter’s question is “no”.

McLaren looking terrible in FP1 so far.

Lando especially.

I know way too early to even predict this but if these are the results in the races, Max would take the lead going into Dubai.

Alonso 2nd. Stroll out.

Why does F1 allow drivers to slow down on the racing groove? Should have them move over.

The lower downforce setup wasn't to his liking, and the higher setup wasn't any better. In fact, it may have been worse (I missed FP1 so I don't know what he looked like during it).

Charles didn't fare much better either.

Both Haas, Saubers out in SQ2. Hadjar eliminated due to lap time deleted.

Ferrari disasterclass :indiff:

Yuki's figured out the RedBull, it seems.

Yuki on top of Max... didn't see that happening ever.

Nice lap from Oscar.

Sprint should be fun.

Piastri, Russell, Norris, Alonso, Tsunoda, Verstappen, Antonelli, Sainz, Leclerc, Albon

Is Oscar back?

Yuki and Oscar outqualifying their teammates

Verstappen's car was bouncing around a lot so they might have messed up the ride height.

I really want Max to get his fifth title but considering the state of his car right now it's probably not going to happen. His performance during the last couple of races was incredible though. He's shown that he is by far the best driver on the grid.

I'm still looking forward to the Sprint though. Should be a good race!

The big points are given out tomorrow - enough time to fix his car by then.

That said I want one of the McLarens to get it.
