what people don't understand is if you get rid of minimum pitstop times the pit times will be very varied, and in a sprint race its not a good idea as it will just gap the field, its not a normal pitstop the driver has to get out of a car and go back in another.

This will keep the racing closer.

That's a good point about it being a sprint race.

Any "normal" race that length wouldn't have had a pit stop at all. The lack of range really turned a sprint distance into a mini "full length GP" in terms of strategy.

yeah, besides you wouldn't want a race completely dictated by how quickly a driver can get in his car and get out, as more time could be gained there then in the actual race conditions.
 
Really enjoyed watching that - certainly something new. Nice to see some real driver control on those treaded tyres and I actually found the sound they made enjoyable. Looking forward to more at Austin. :)

I thought they sounded like someone skateboarding down a freshly resurfaced road.

For a single seater of that size they didn't look especially quick. But maybe that's down to the road tyres. Great driver line-up though 👍
 
I thought the race was entertaining. Big WTF at the move by Prost of course. I loved the audio mix though, had no trouble hearing the cars at any point or from any angle yet I could hear the commentators fine if I was listening for that. Dario had some funny comments. I think F1 could learn from that - more car noise, less commentating (and how about only 2 smart commentators not 3 who constantly buzz in our ears). As for track layout - surely they could have come up with at least a bus stop section? Still, fun to watch, I am looking forward to the next race!
 
Well, Malaysia is next, and that track looks so much more like it, plus it'll be going to Monaco soon.
 
I think they should try to make these go a bit faster, hell it looks like my car is faster than these things and it probably is.

Natural gas is no renewable. Electric can be renewable. Hence the push in electric cars over the last 10 or so years.

A motorsport in it will create an awareness and much like ferrari in F1 where they put technology from the F1 cars into the road cars I'm sure if one of the teams came up with something ingenious it wouldn't be long before we saw it on the road too.
 
Never heard of this until today from a friend on gt6. They'll never air it here, thankfully the entire thing is on youtube.

Yea but what it takes to mine all the material to make the batteries themselves is way more damaging than what the car can even "save", but i dont care about the environment and i personally hate electric cars. There is way more natural gas out there than oil its just the problem that the infrastructure isnt there to make it cost effective to use yet.

As far as F1 cars passing along to road cars thats just no.. i remember watching some documentary saying F1 cars are more comparable to airplanes than cars. Now i think the LMP1 cars and their tech i believe will trickle down into production cars one day.

Many things have came from F1 to production cars, the only reason it hasn't been happening in the last 20 years is down to anything innovative being insantly banned and tighter and tighter technical regulations.

I am actually sad there is no event in Oceania. You know, I would have loved to see one of the races someplace in Australia or New Zealand. Maybe Sydney, Melbourne, Perth, or even Brisbane would have been nice on the Australia side.

Adelaide has confirmed that they have had talks with series organisers, but can't get started until 2016.

David Brabham has suggested Surfers Paradise could host a race, and the venue needs it. Following the disaster that was A1GP, serious questions were asked about the management of the event. It's now a regular V8 Supercar fixture, but it's perpetually under threat.

If that doesn't work, the series will use a much shorter circuit that links Ste. Devote to Tabac.

I was thinking about this the other day and wondering how they'd make it up that hill or if they even could without looking embarrassing. :lol:

It's kind of interesting that they didn't have this planned out already unless they did months ago and are just now announcing it. When they said they would be racing at Long Beach they said right then they'd be using a shortened circuit which I think is a shame since the part they are cutting out is a slower part of the track anyway which would suit the cars. Indy Lights and other lower formula have used the full circuit so I don't see the promlem.

They do, but why the need for the shortened course then? Still too long of a lap time?


Edit: Maybe they didn't want to block off those roads for the race. I was thinking it was going to be a support race for the F1 race, but it's a couple weeks before that.
 
going with it because it'd be better for the spectators as they get to see the cars go past more times, more often. Same reason DTM tends to run shortened layouts.
