Right after I hit 24 and raced a couple B spec events to get out of the way it popped up for me, and I had already been hoarding 5 mil just in case. There's so much other stuff to do don't focus on finding it just knock some other stuff out of the way you need skipped before and soon enough you'll find it.

also for the ZR1 on indy make sure the downforce is all the way up, will add MUCH more grip in the turns, i don't let off the brakes at all the whole time

Surely you mean Throttle :sly:

Actually the car will do better if you go full downforce on the front but about 1/2 - 3/4 on the rear. The biggest problem with this car is the nose will push in the corners and having less downforce on the rear is a simple way to help this condition without diving into the suspension tuning.

I got a red one two days ago, but till then I had 0 time to do the FGT event.

Is it hard as it was in previous games? In GT3 the FGT challenge was almost impossible to beat for untalented guys like me :?

Harder, that is if you use Racing Medium tires, no oil change, no engine overhaul and decide to just 'wing it' like I did. I managed to win everything the first time through, but only because the weather changed at Suzuka and I had a 17 second lead (which dwindled down to 4 seconds at the end :nervous:). That was the single hardest thing I've done in Gran Turismo...ever. Good luck!

I posted this in GAF but I will post it in here too.

For those of you who haven't experience the **** fest that is acquiring the Formula GT and racing it in the corresponding event, let me highlight some "fun" parts.

-You have to save/grind 4.8 million credits or more
-You will likely see the F1 GT in your used lot just before you have saved enough. A fantastically subversive "**** you" from GT5
-Every one of your favorite cars you want to buy will appear in your used lot tempting you to blow your saved cash
-As soon as you hit 4.8 mill, expect the F1 GT to return when Halley's Comet does.
-You will need to spend another 500k to rebuild the engine giving you ~936HP
-The F1 GT event is all 20 lap races, you cannot save mid event
-The awful AI is exacerbated by the twitching high grip F1 cars
-There is no qualifying so you have to test out all of the tracks in your F1 car ahead of time to make sure your gearing is perfect
-You will always start each race in 7th. Remember, open wheel F1 racing is all about "tradin' paint"
-You will get spun out numerous times each race on matter how careful you are
-This will be some of the most exhausting challenging driving you will do because on lap 15 you will be smashed by a car and go to last place and have to drive near perfect the rest of the race to win
-You will earn absolutely **** all for XP
-You could have earned 10x as much $ if you just grinded Indy 5 lap than you would spending half the time completing this event
-The total prize amount for winning every race and golding the event will be less than it costs to rebuild your engine
-You will now have a F1 GT car with less than 840HP because of the event wear and tear
-You will have net lost nearly 6 million credits and several hours of time

+You have an F1 GT car and one event golded

Thanks for the heads up, I'm at level 26 with only this race uncompleted (gold) in Extreme. I've already unlocked Endurance at 25, and completed the first race at Grand Valley (2hrs.) I'm going to pass on purchasing the Formula until which time it doesn't drain me of every last cent I have.

SPOILER---- STOP READING IF YOU DON'T WANT TO KNOW A PRIZE CAR

Heads up, the first endurance race pays $136k and a crappy concept car for 2+ hours of racing. The GT credit awards/car awards make absolutely no sense.

Use a ZR1 RM'ed for the American Championship and it's a breeze and as stated, its 4.8m in Used Dealership. :)

Somehow I won the Viper GTS-R Team Oreca, and used that, it flogged them silly. Although the GTS doesn't seem to be a prize car, and I didn't buy it, so must have won it off a gift card, lucky me.

On The ZR1 use soft race tires and make sure you have full downforce on the front and no more than about 50 or so on the rear.

You should be able to hold it full throttle and get laptimes in the low 43s high 42s with ease even if you bump the wall in the corners. A good clean lap I can turn high 41s with it but low 43s are more than enough to smoke the AI.

Just want to thank you on that advice. :) I know nothing about cars but still like driving games. :P I was used to doing Indy in the Minolta but when I moved up with the Corvette I was annoyed that it was actually a bit slower to get round. :(

Your help got my laps down from 49 seconds to nearer 43 and I'm holding more speed in the corners too! was dropping to the 170's but I can maintain nearer 200 now. :)

Thanks.

Why, oh why, did they remove these two great aspects of the game!?
I just don't get it...

I have a reasonable guess here... Multiplayer. I believe Kaz intended for a seamless MP exp with single player, like other people could fill the field of the AI drivers if you let them...

Something about the structure just screams "drop-in/drop-out" single multiplayer hybrid....

Also would explain the so few events, the weak rewards, the reward TICKETS, not cars that are tradeable...

Just my guess it was pulled at the end and damage was just added back to the full MP side...

Fed up searching for this car, seen it once never had the fundage now im left just waiting for this car :(

Spent all last night scrolling the licences to refresh my used car lot to no avail (other than to spend around 1 million on other cars I liked ha ha)

i spent all last night too refreshing the list. could even predict which cars were gonna show up sometimes. So tempted to buy the maclaren F1 BMW race car. I finished up doing the america grind race then checking. Think im up to about 7 mil credits now. At this rate i'll get to 30 for the X1 before i get the chuffing FGT. Why couldnt they just put it in the Gran Turismo Cars dealership ?

I think it comes up at least once every 300 days. Mine took 160 days to arrive and I just recycled via B1-B5 license tests and did nothing else until it came up (sort used cars by price and go to the bottom each cycle). Your game days can be accessed via your game save in the XMB.

Strange that game days is missing from the top menu as well - something else that got missed in the rush to get the game out !

um , ok I got the Zr1 and its Rmed and Im still losing , it cant take the turns faster than 250km/h.......the other cars all over take me on the turns:(:(:(

I was having the same problem at first with the ZR1. Crank up the Limited Slip Differential. And don't be afraid to raise the Traction Control if you have to. Try the LSD first though as it does wonders. The car will be a beast.

Cheers for the info mate will give it a try later.

I had the FGT show up in the used lot right when i hit level 25, are all of you guys past 25 yet? either way its worth waiting for because once you have it you really can just start up b spec with it and walk away with out worrying about losing the race

I want to gold the event, if nothing at least to say I did(something I never did in GT4), and get the Extreme Event free car ticket....

Need to grind for the money though....bought too many toys in between prizes...

Came home from work, cycled the used car lot twice and its finally showed up !!

On a negative note my PS3 has just crashed :(

what should I do? I played GT alot, Im level 27, B spec level 20, I check USED CARS after every 5 events, missed car changes only 2 times, i saw every car GT5 has to offer, I check USED CARS like every time it changes... wtf. never in my life saw a Formula GT car.. I would beter buy it for 20, 000, 000, 000 credits than this stupid searching.. I sit here in the forums half a day today doing everything I can, B-spec, A-Spec, License shifting from B-2 to B-6 so USED CARS update.. nothing.......... no formula.. I just got soo bored I done all licenses gold (60), 90% of challanges are gold, hard ones Silver... I dont know what to do or drive.. where the hell is that formula GT :((( as Im typing this Im doing the license thing.. still, its like its sucked in a black hole or something..

Just keep looking buddy ! Dont give up - it will appear !

I'm at 93% completion and have yet to see one. I check the lots every 4 or 5 races and have wasted hours just loading up license test tracks to no avail. I'm not sure who is more stupid, PD for implementing the Used Car lot like they did or me for actually going along with this BS for so long. *sigh*

Here's something i noticed while I too am waiting for that GT to arrive. I went and played a few on line games and when I came back noticed my garage had new arrivals. This may be obvious to some, but I'd not actually thought about the car lot cycling along while I was entering on line events. So in case anyone else hadn't realised, I thought I'd let people know.

A-Spec 25 and 5m credits, just no Formula GT! I can't ever remember seeing it, though I didn't always check the used dealership early on in the game.

It probably been mentioned but better tyres and adjusting the downforce at the front will help.

if you have aserious problems winning the event in A-spec, the reason is probably because your shifting is slow (at least that was mine and some of my friends' problem). Almost no car in the game gets you used to how fast you need to shift for the Formula GT, especially in low gears. Not shifting quick enough will completely cripple the car.

To solve the problem i put the gear to automatic and i ran a few practice laps to see the shifting pace of the AI, then I worked on adapting to it.

After that I won easy.

Of course if you don't wanna bother, you can just set the shift to automatic during the actual races, and if you don't spin you will get first easily by a few seconds.

You did you lucky son of a....

I won with a Z06 RM'd at 650HP on Racing medium, though I'm sure I could on hard with ease.
Anyone who can't take Indy at full throttle the whole way around, (or close to it) on Racing Hard tires in this car just can't drive.

You can't enter the FGT without an FGT car. He's still trying to win the American races. :)
