After some feedback, and my computer finally cooperating, Iā€™ve finished work on the Vaillante F1 :)

#3 Michel Vaillant and #4 Steve Warson.

Iā€™ve also shared the ā€œle pointā€, ā€œEurope1ā€ and ā€œLe Parisienā€ decals I made for these liveries, theyā€™re not 100% accurate, but they also slightly change throughout the comic.

I wanted to recreate the numbers also, but my Illustrator knowledge is not that great, so regular numbers are used.

Here's an interesting twist; what if McLaren had their 2008 sponsor lineup in 1985?
  • Vodafone uses its original 1984 - 1997 logo, the same one that later appeared on the BTCC Primera
  • Santander's closest approximate (logo-wise anyway) was Abbey National, so put that on the airbox
  • Mobil1 didn't come out until 1989 (IIRC), a Mobil Racing Oil logo has been used instead
  • Slapped on the stylized Marlboro-chevron inspired McLaren logo on top of the sidepod
  • As Marlboro would no longer be their title sponsor in this alternate universe, used a strangely-fitting McLaren logo made by Cujo2670
  • Aigo didn't exist back then; replaced it with the ExxonMobil Pegasus logo
  • Although SAP was founded in 1972, couldn't find a logo prior to 1995 so substituted them with IBM, the company they sprang from
Made it in three paint variations; contemporary (red on white), modern (red on silver*), and classic/present (white/blue on orange)

*Can't make my mind up whether the chrome or liquid silver looks better. Gah! Chrome one is presently private due to being too similar to the silver one IMHO, will release if there's interest. Ended up releasing the chrome livery in a slightly altered state, based on the MP4-29's colour scheme. Must've done something right as barely an hour later it's already the most popular version!

Also I like this idea of making retro versions of modern liveries, if anyone wants to see a specific one done I'm all ears for it.

Nice idea šŸ‘ Interesting to see retro take on modern liveries. Looking forward for more stuff like this!

Updated my previous post. Back at it again for volume #2 of the retro liveries, and this time around it's the 2005 Renault R25!
  • Used the period-correct Renault logo and badge
  • Also used the period-correct Mild Seven logo and colour scheme; beige and black rather than blue and yellow
  • Magneti Marelli uses its 1949 - 1987 logo
  • Telefonica uses a logo it used for a few months in mid-1984 (but it actually looks better and far more "80s" than the one that replaced it IMHO)
  • Chronotech, a subsidiary of Binda Watches, did not yet exist so I replaced its slot on the livery with Hanjin
  • i-Mode ended up being replaced by NTT due to the former stemming from DoCoMo
It should be noted that a lot of this paintjob was one happy accident after the other, as originally I wanted to try and directly replicate the nose/airbox decal the real car had, but after stretching the first stripe realized I could have it wrap around instead and use a separate V-shape decal on the nose.

Then when looking up the history of Mild Seven for the purpose of creating the above livery, found out that until 1994, you would not have seen such a sponsor on a Formula 1 car as Japan Tobacco's racing associate at the time was Cabin. So then I made a pair of alternates:

And of course, for the sake of completionism:

Is it allowed to post cars in here that are done the other way around? I made a Grouppe 5 livery on the F1 car.

Based on the Warsteiner BMW 320i used in the 1977 DRM championship.
A metallic paintjob, so it was some tricky stuff to make the black lines around the Warsteiner logo :

You very nearly have done an F1 replica, Arrows ran a few variations of the Warsteiner livery on their early cars

Right! I knew there was a team with this livery, but couldnt remember which team it was. Didnt bothered looking it up. Dont wanna sound like a douche but I think my livery looks better than the ones used by arrows, so i dont think i'm going to make an arrows version of this :)

I am planning on doing more iconic non-F1 liveries for this car, anyone disagrees with posting them in this topic?

RealJaySee,

Would you mind taking care of my Ayrton Senna West Surrey Racing Formula 3 livery request from a few posts up?

Not yet. I've been busy with Forza (the dark side - I play both franchises' games) and other things in real life. I'll get around to it, at some point.

Really nice work in this thread. @AlexGRFan97 those retro versions of newer liveries are really cool. I'd be interested to see what the last one would look like with the blue and white reversed for the Vodafone sponsored sections.

I don't have a PS4, so I haven't had the chance to try the livery editor, but it looks like a nicely versatile tool.

^Funny you should make that, my next retro project is that team's car from the year before (albeit with a Cosworth engine instead of a Renault one like it did in real life) but I'm presently waiting for the next page to start so it doesn't immediately get buried.
