E3 Awards 2021: Forza Horizon 5 is the Most Anticipated Game of the Show - IGN

So far the game only looks like a reskin of the previous ones. Not sure how this equals most anticipation, but these awards are probably sold to the higest bidder.

A virtual awards ceremony marked the closing of this year’s online-only E3 – with judges from the likes of IGN, GameSpot, PC Gamer, and GamesRadar+ handing Forza Horizon 5 the top award.

The upcoming racing game Forza Horizon 5 from Xbox Game Studios was voted the most anticipated game during the official live stream.

Additionally, judges chose their best presentation – again, the awards going to Microsoft for its Xbox and Bethesda presentation. Finally, judges then whittled down each presentation to its most anticipated title.

I'm sorry but this logic has never worked for me.

By this logic almost every game that is a sequel is just a reskin but in a new world and with better graphics.

Forza Horizon 4 hit 24 million unique players in November 2020 before it even launched on Steam. It was one of the few titles at E3 to not only have a good presentation but actually look next-gen and exciting. Beyond those that are mad about BOTW2 not getting this award, many are agreeing that Horizon 5 deserved it.

Just like every other game that ever released in the past year that you're labeling FH5 for. Still, it won the award fair and square. The fact that FH5 was the most voted just shows how much people are anticipated of it, myself included. Hence the award.

How MS and PG had planned to showcase FH5 was some of the most GREATEST things to have come out of E3, and clearly the BEST presentation from Xbox's conference period. It deserved the award and the people currently agree with said decision.

I didn’t state a fact, so no source required.

Yes, many sequels often have that reskin feel to them. I didn’t say it was unique to Forza Horizon.

Having many players and being successful is not an excuse to not surpass oneself. Forza Horizon has a sort of monopoly in the open world racing genre in terms of graphics, physics and licensing. They know it, and press copy paste.

Which is exactly why Forza Motorsport has decided to reinvent itself.

Horizon is not the game to take these kind of steps first. Turn 10 is going to lead the way and Horizon will likely take what Turn 10 will build and learn and bring it to Horizon 6.

Horizon 5 also has to deal with being straddled to the Xbox One and Jaguar CPU; this limits a lot of what they can do. It also limits the physics engine, which Turn 10 is currently improving for the new hardware.

Also we are talking about the game being most anticipated, and such a thing has nothing to do with surpassing oneself. They definitely have graphically and it sounds like we will be seeing upgrades to the paint system and upgrade system.

What do you want them to do, add boats? add a 3d person mode for your drivatar and give him some guns to battle the cartel or you want to build houses in the dessert? Its a open world sandbox driving game, they already change the map, add new story mode, add a level/game creator arena, updated the visuals, add new cars, add new weather types, update the sounds, add new upgrade kits, add new visual upgrades,... They literally changed almost everything and add all fan request features in the game. And you just say that its a reskin, come on man.

  • Either remove the festival and change the theme, OR make a better connection between car culture and the Horizon festival. So far it has been a strange combo of cars and music, where it has felt most like a music festival attracting a bottleneck of performance cars.
  • Interesting storyline. How about putting players into the role of car enthusiast where accolades from racing and revenue from auctions tie in with career progress and reputation in the social realm? Maybe you could specialize in restoring worn classics into unicorns, or becoming a reknowned specialist in certain car divisions.
  • Make the auction house a physical and interactive place on the map.
  • Make owned properties more like interactive photo locations.
And so on… There were many ideas to explore with the Series X and S consoles on the market, but they opt for something that’ll also work on the Xbox One from 2013 because many consumers still own these. Excuse me for not being thrilled.

Some of the things you mention here summarize the problems I see with FH5. It’s constrained instead of being forward-thinking.

The things that you listed are not held back by last gen, those are simple things that can be done easily on last gen. We don't know nothing bout the story mode and you say that you are not interested. And the other things are small things that wouldn't even add anything to the game, like physical auction house? everybody will get mad that you need to go there to buy or sell a car while its much faster just to do it in the menu or homescreen. Only thing i gave you is the festival thing, i don't care but it doesn't bother me also. So this is the reason you are not hyped or " not thrilled" lol. Those are so small things that even if they are in the game it wouldn't even be noticed or make a difference. You are just over exaggerating at this point. The most important part of a racing game should be its driving physics, car list, map, sounds, graphics & performance. All the other things are extras for me, if those are top notch than i don't care for the other things tbh.

Well, they weren't going to sit on their hands while waiting on Turn 10 to get Forza Motorsport 8 out.

I can understand if you skip Horizon 5 but they are clearly working to improve the franchise.

Although the groundless speculation in your post does seem to be fact-free, the following sentence wasn't presented as opinion but a flat declaration. The whiff of sour grapes appeared to me to be quite evident in its placement on an awards thread.

Sure, but the Series X enabled them to do all this in a much more immersive and seamless manner.

The festival is headed to another country in a non-rebooted fashion. I’m not counting on a very different experience.

I really didn’t say they should not make auctions accessible from a menu tab. Regardless, I’d really appreciate one or more physical places for auctions. Viewing listings would be interesting with live models similar to the FM7 garage.

I agree that things like driving, physics, graphics and such are core elements that need to work well. Though, the thing is Forza Horizon has always done well in those aspects, hence my interest in now taking things to a higher level in other areas of the game. Overdue in my opinion.

I wouldn’t say developing specifically for Series X would classify as sitting on hands. It would have been an investment for the franchise if they had they prioritized that over making yet another basic sequel, as FH5 appears to be.

“Probably” denotes a likelihood.

That doesn't really answer my question, but why is it bizarre?

All I can say is that Forza Horizon seem to win awards I don't really comprehend based on my own experience with this franchise. I have enjoyed FH4 for what it is, but RDR2 was one of those games that really stood out in the previous decade. FH4 was just another Forza.

The only awards I can find for Forza Horizon 4 is best racing game. Now, I kind of doubt RDR2 was in the running.

Best British Game in 2018

I don't have a horse in that particular race, but those seem pretty easy to comprehend to me. Unless some other game should've won those awards instead. Perhaps FH4 should've contained shooting and platforming elements as the racing genre is so formulaic.

I just explained why in the very post you quoted from.

To each their own, but the people that chose to award it to Forza Horizon 4 clearly did not choose it on a basis of "finding it to be just another Forza.".

I'm pretty sure that the game being set in Great Britain might've played a large role in the decision.

Not being developed by a San Diego-based studio "probably" helped as well.

The award is also specifically called the "Britain" award and is not the "Best Game" award. God of War beat Red Dead Redemption 2 for that award.

Rockstar London did work on RDR2 but they were not the only Rockstar studio to work on it.

"Clearly"? You can't prove the award wasn't bought like I can't prove my theory.

RDR2 was primarily developed at Rockstar North in Edinburgh.

Best British Game meaning best game developed in Britain.

I didn't imply it wasn't bought, therefore I do not have the burden of proof.

You can not make a claim and then suddenly require someone not agreeing with you to prove you wrong. When you make a claim you must prove it yourself.

Honestly, I don't care if you think anyone "bought" the award, I think the idea of that is pretty silly anyway.

Again, just because you think RDR2 is better than Forza Horizon 4 does not mean that BAFTA thought the same. I really like both games but they are so different that I would not try to say one was better than the other.

The only kind of fair metric I could use would be the amount of time I put in either game. Forza Horizon 4 would no doubt dominate such a statistic.

You did imply it wasn't bought when you said "clearly did not choose it". That implies the award was chosen fair and square. I'm not denying it was, but I suspect it wasn't for reasons stated above. It's not a factual claim I have to prove, but you guys insist I must despite not being able to disprove it yourselves. Kinda hypocritical.

It's not hypocritical, it's literally how debating works. The person making the claim is responsible for providing proof, if proof is not provided the claim can be dismissed without any proof needed (AKA Hitchens' Razor).

I presented a theory backed by reasoning. That's hardly how you define a claim.
