I just want everyone to know that the Ferrari Luce has been an incredible addition to this game. Thanks to Playground for letting us celebrate Italian Exotics in style!
Haha, is this sarcastic? That's a Prius 🤣

Well, what a coincidence...

Wait until you find out who wrote that article :D

I'm still having fun with this game because I love driving and modifying my cars. Taking them on little adventures is such an entertaining thing for me because there's no pressure, no set route and no set agenda governing what I do. However I also like racing my cars against other people online to see how they stack up. The automatically rotating roster of events is soo much better than being at the mercy of a lobby host in Gran Turismo. I am not bored with this game at all!

...although that's due in part to grievances I have with standard play sessions (that'll be for another post).
Well, as the discussion has swung around to motivation/burnout I'm going to elaborate on this and why I am currently in the 1 evening a week camp.

Out of all the previous Forza games the only one I've played aside from this was FH4 (and that shortly before it shut down), with the only online "races" I could play being the Eliminator due to some weird tech issues around matchmaking on Steam. That said I have watched videos of the older FM's and what I remember from those was that you could make some truly ridiculously powerful cars for their rating but with the downside of being an absolute strugglebus in corners. Obviously that was the meta for something like Le Mans but on more balanced circuits they were exactly that... balanced.

I talked about this with my brother after he grinded to level 100 in Online Play last month and he came out of that feeling that it was one of the most unbalanced online games he's ever experienced. Off-road events were generally fine but his ire was especially reserved for road-racing and the current practise of AWD-Swapping higher-powered cars (Ford GT/Viper e.t.c) onto Off-Road tyres. They take all the straight-line benefits with very little downside in the corners, so much so that any cars he took out which had been "logically" tuned were left in the dust along with everyone else who weren't using those swaps, usually to the tune of 15-20 seconds in races that only last 2 to 3 minutes. It was especially prevalent in A-class which was a double-blow due to it being his (and many other's) favourite class... compared to his experience in FH4 (300'ish hours Online play) it was night and day.

Up until that point I had been doing experiments on the Goliath with D-class, specifically with the older cars on vintage tyres and finding the right balance for them (250+ BHP/Torque with vintage tyres on something that weighs 600-odd kg is NOT a good idea ). It had been quite enjoyable but after that discussion and looking at the leaderboards for A/S1 (by all accounts the same problem as above) I thought it would be a good time to pack that it in for the rest of the summer, especially if another leader board wipe happens... and I can't see it not happening, it seems just as much an exploitation of game/PP mechanics as the drag tyres were.

As it is, play sessions are now effectively 2 hours a week with my brother to quickly run the playlist championships and other assorted events with a couple online spec races or drift championships thrown in... (praise be to spec racing).

To be honest, spec racing is the only reason I even entertain online play. I've no love for racing against meta builds and off roading in super cars. Me and my mate just do our own thing against AI, but we have been doing a LOT of spec racing and it's the first time in any Horizon game (I've been playing Forza since FM1) that I've ever done online that wasn't just the trial to get it over with.

Not counting Tag on FH4 tbf. But that's not the same thing.

I've only just realised that the Forzathon Shop, and indeed Forzathon Points, aren't there any more :|
Yeah, that's something I noticed was missing from FH6 early on and hoped would come back after a while. My thinking was that the game was too new for discounted cars and such, but I used it a lot on previous Horizon games to get clothes, horns or wheelspins. I miss it.

Since i was busy in the past 2 Weeks i needed to do all 53 points this week to be able to get to 160 next week. Now i have a Honda Beat with a 3l V6 and 300 km/h top speed :D Spend 116k on updates for a 5k return.

Trail was hit and miss; Won the first race with a huge margin, lost the second with a huge margin and won the 3rd one again by a huge margin

The cost of parts certainly adds up in this game, especially as money seems harder to come by.

Sometimes I wonder whether players would benefit by unused spares which aren't used in any of our setups being automatically sold back to the "bank" like garage props.

I suspect that Honda will pay for itself sooner or later, though. It's a useful and versatile little car.

I'm not a car collector guy in FH or FM so economy never really bothered me but in this game, if you try to get all the car, good luck. You'll need either a unlimited amount of time to camp ah and get lucky once in a while or farm like a gilfarmer back in the glorious day of WoW/F11.

This game is pretty broken tbf, I do the weekly because I'm not even sure why to this point, surely not for fun because except a rare occasion on Trials, it's not really fun.

I do have fun online in Ghost race and in the spec racing, but usually the race is more like me vs another fast player and that's it. Its rare that I have a racing serie where we have more than 2 winners. So yeah. Not sure if no one play online of if there's some secret matchmaking I dont know about. I dont even know if there is crossplay or even cross region play. I have zero idea how FH matchmaking works but it's definitely not the best. I know someone else said they prefer this to GT7 lobby but I dont agree, because in GT once you find a good lobby you can spend your evening in it having super cool races. This is where I raced again Fraga, Hizal, Gallo and all other top players I can never be matched with in regular sports mode. So yeah I definitely prefer GT7 lobby. And in GT I had mp race were I had fun battling for the 10th spot, it never happen in FH because their rating system for car is even more broken than PD system so you have way too much difference between the same car.

For the moment I still enjoy playing FH6 but I can definitely see a time where a new game will come (especially with all the september release) and I decide to put FH on the side. It's sad because it's really a racing game in my favorite place but I think they really didnt use japan car culture like they could. And they spend way too many time on property asset instead of car mod imo. But that's more a personnal thing. Even lab is also something i dont really get it as someone who dont play in convoy, I just dont get the appeal.

The 'Evolving World' change for the next season is a Time Attack circuit, I wonder if it'll be the drift circuit? (the name is escaping me). I thought it was a bit odd to have a circuit that isn't currently anything in the open world, could even be used as a full circuit Drift Zone?

A couple other thoughts, there's a heap of areas in which temporary Time Attack circuits could be set up, like through the docks or the strangely unused Snow Arena (maybe that's next months circuit?). Honestly the map has many large points of interest that could be used better. The huge car park could've had a Street Scene meet up where you could enter street races and drift events from? The docks are a great sandbox, but they're lacking a bit of atmosphere, A temporary Time Attack could fill the void of the vibe no game has really captured well since NFS Pro Street.

Time Attack and Drag Racing are both fantastic, a third similar event type that'd be perfect for free roam is rally stages. All you'd need is a simple start gate area with a few props, the same pull up and start sequence we use for drag racing, and then have some checkpoints load onto the map in the same way they do for Time Attack. It's a shame Rally stages didn't make their way across from FH5 DLC, I really hoped they'd be here to stay, feels like such an easy addition. Now that we've got the insanity of the TA cars, Hillclimb cars could've also been added together with Hillclimb stages. There's so many great roads in the game with little to no races or open world events using them.

Or wait until Playground cave and make rare cars available to everyone like when the Mini FE showed up on the FH5 playlist again. It wasn't very good though as the base PI stat was too high to do anything meaningful with it.

It's also a shame that EventLab's byzantine and arcane ruleset has yet to be adequately explained to the world so that enterprising people who can identify these gaps have a better chance of being able to fill them in as I believe is the case with Assetto Corsa on PC. (I don't have a PC.)

FH4 still had very dominant cars. A class ranked racing was basically a Boneshaker championship until it was banned completely. The Track Tor was even more stupidly dominant in B class until it was also banned. S1 saw the Ford GT and 92 NSX as the predominant cars.

Drag tyre builds were also a thing then, with the Ford Roadster on drags being the strongest A class car in dry conditions. However, FH4 used wet and icy conditions to add a lot more variety to the races and make drag tyres often unworkable outside summer.

I haven’t tried any off-road tyre builds yet. It’s a shame that the leaderboards don’t show tyre choice as it would be interesting to quickly see if they are dominating. As it is, my understanding is that they weren’t as ubiquitous as the drag tyres builds we were seeing previously.

A few things:

1. I am not sure if I am going crazy or not, but there seems to be some eventlab races that still offer skill points, and some that will not give you any. I played 2 of the new PG Choice ones they added, and one was giving me skill points, the other wasn't.

2. The FOMO should not exist, no exceptions. They could easily give you the opportunity to purchase a car you missed either through the Autoshow or Aftermarket cars. A lot of people are busy, and forcing players to have to do a bunch of challenges, otherwise they miss out on a car and have to wait months to get it again just makes the game more like a chore. Not to mention, stuff happens, people have to travel for work or family, and cannot play at that time, in which case they get punished for, well, life. And making previous rewards the 40 points is not a good excuse either, that is still FOMO, and is exactly the same they did with 5. Not to mention, we can already guess next month's 'new cars' are the AM DBX, the Mini JCW, the Renault 8 Gordini, and the Abarth 695.

3. As for online racing, I really wish they would bring back ranked, I enjoyed the competitive nature of it. Spec racing is really cool though, and I appreciate that it is more of a test of skill over using the current meta.

Finally, they really should expand the rotating aftermarket cars in the next seasons, and really should have it rotate inventory every hour rather than requiring restart. It has been really cool to drive to with random players though. I enjoy just leaving my house and driving to it, seeing 1 or 2 other players driving with me, just to check out what is for sale.

Although, I still have yet to see one of the wheelspin exclusive cars. It is driving me nuts because I havent spent a dime on anything, hoping for one to show up. I am struggling to hold myself back from buying one of the cars I don't own there, thinking 'no, no, next time I launch, there will be one'.

I'm finding Japan's winter lacking... So yeah, the roads are clean, but there should be iced surfaces and winter tires and traction control/4WD/AWD should count more. And there should be blizzards and more incentives to go north and west where the terrain is more interesting. Let's be honest, winter in a valley is booooring.

I'm really looking forward to the Honda Z GT. That'll be a great little car. 🚘

Winter is fine for me. I have everything turned off, ABS, ESP... and stability control. I'd rather have a bigger ice surface that freezes completely in the winter. 🥶

Slippery conditions in races seem more frequent. In free roam the changes seem mostly visual. I loved FH4’s winters and had a separate set of cars for winter conditions

I got four Ultimate Wreckage skills in the Abarth 131 during the stunt party but it didn't count towards the weekly challenge. Will try it during freeroam to see whether the challenge pops.

Japanese roads aren't supposed to get icy in the city. Maybe they could make the roads near Sotoyama ice up more.

This is also something that I find lacking compares to the last FH I played (FH3). The night is not night in FH6, it's a very bright full moon with no clouds, I dont need any light on to drive and it kinda bother me. Also the rain and snowing effect arent good compare to FH4. Not sure what happened here. Weather/seasons were much better in FH4 and also used much less ressources.
