Yes, me actually. Although I think it's a very good move for Sauber, I'm surprised that other teams didn't have a go, particularly Toyota. I would take this as confirmation of a McNish/Salo pairing there next year.

Also, I'm quite surprised that their demotion of Massa to test driver. :gtp: regulars will know that I think he's a bit wild, and I'm surprised that Sauber didn't just say "thanks" and show him the door. Again, smacks of shortsightedness of the other teams in not picking him up on a long-term contract. Autosport didn't say whether Massa had accepted the new terms however, so we'll await developments on that one. Interesting that Sauber - a team not renowned for its testing expenditure - should hire a test driver at a time when they're losing their major sponsor. Perhaps there is something in the offing there - I did hear rumours that CSFB were helping them to find new sponsorship.

I wasn't that surprised. Once I heard Sauber were in the hunt, I thought he'd end up there - he's probably only got one or two seasons left, nice way to see his career out in a competitive little car that should get him points regularly with a chance of a podium.

From what I read Massa had been offered the test/reserve driver position (which would do him the world of good, assuming Sauber do a reasonable amount of testing next year), but there was nothing on whether he'd accepted the position as yet.
