I need to vent a lot. And with my Freshman Year finally arriving, I'm going to be more PO'd than normal. Then why not vent on the site that accepts all forms of life, gtplanet.net?

Day: August 25th

Wow, this is....weird.
Ah, the start of High School. Welcome to my life. I'm enrolled at McDowell Intermediate High School in Erie, Pennsylvania. Now everyone criticizes Freshman, but we're actually nice people.

Here's some people in my school life you need to know:

Gio: my best friend. He's like Tiger Woods, looks black but acts white, except without all the mistresses.
Helen: she's my friend. She's Chinese and I have some trouble understanding her.
Kirsten: she is really cool. Kinda like a guy in a chick's body.
Amber: my delinquint sister. I hate her.

So, I started my day with a nice outfit of a small t-shirt and jeans, only to realize it's 55 degress out. Cold. Wait for 20 minutes while Amber goes,
"I'm so nervous."
"Shut up"
"I'm not kidding. This is so weird."
"I wasn't kidding either Amber, now SHUT UP!"

I'm soooo nice, right?

Well, everyone loves the awkwardness of the bus on the first day, right? No. I sat alone, and got stuck in numerous traffic jams and road problems.
Finally get to the school, get my schedule, and head off on my way. Homeroom. Hmm. Amber's not here. She's supposed to be....

Oh well. Head off to the "High School" (the High School is seperate from the Intermediate.) for my French 1 class.

Bonjour, je m'appelle Andre. (Hello, my name is Andrew)

See Gio in the hall leaving French, and now we're holding up the hallway worse than a nerd fight. Head back down to Intermediate, get to Algebra, and this was a better part of my day. Good seat, great teacher, nothing wrong. Wahoo!

By now, I'm hungry (I last ate at 6:00A.M. It's now 11:00A.M.)

Back to homeroom for lockers, and there's Amber! Why am I happy!

Go to Honours English, cool teacher, good seat again, very smart group of peers. That's not half bad for a smart guy like me.

Yes, lunch! AH, I hate these tables!

Now, finally, swim class. Finally see my Helen and Kirsten, long time no see. Figure my sister may have cut class. ON THE FIRST DAY!
No swimming though. Yes.

Finally, me Gio, Helen and Kirsten round up for the day, head to our seperate transportation devices, and head home. High School's weird.

And this is why you shouldn't have kids. They write their teenage info on internet forums.

I'm exhausted, and I still got some school tomorrow. Help me.

I just wanted to know if some people could help me and give some support for my year.
Or ridicule me, whatever you like.

Goodnight.

I hate high school and high schoolers.

I'm sorry for that Smallhorses, I'm tired so much. And it is the smart people in that class. Think, we're 14-15, not 20+.

I don't know, I need some sleep.

{QUOTE=Omnis;3984154]I hate high school and high schoolers.[/QUOTE]

Does that mean you hate me? Just wondering. Cause I'm not one of those "Haha, look at me I'm so pop-ularrrrr."
I'm more like "Man I have so much work to do."

One more thing: I have a goal set for my year. All A's, all quarters. I'm doing it for my dad. I know he always wanted me to do better, and this is my first new school year since he passed away, so I'm gonna make him feel proud, one more time.

I honestly don't remember much of my high school years beyond Senior year. It's just been work, work, occasional fun day out, work ever since.

In short terms, enjoy the next 4 years. Life gets in your face real quick afterwards.

No, it doesn't. Just don't let getting As get in the way of learning something as you grow up.

When you're done with high school, you'll realize what a waste a lot of it is.

So there's a small adjustment from being the high class in school (last year) to the low class in school (this year.)

So what? Wait 'til you're the low class at college, or the n00b at a new job, and to get that job you had to uproot yourself and move 700 miles and nobody knows you from Adam, but they know you're "new" and "different" and "from somewhere else" and nobody trusts you or believes in you.

Life is full of adjustments. So adjust already.

Look around at the other classes. ALL of those kids were where you are, wondering how the hell they were gonna survive 9th grade. Yet obviously they did. Take a hint. So will you.

And print your post and put it in a time capsule to read 35 years from now.

I don't think the future wife will appreciate being called a guy in a girl's body.

Heck, read it five years from now. Everyone entering high school thinks it's an important, life-defining experience. It's not, so just have fun while you're there, because after that, things called "responsibilities" start to pop up.

Hmmm.
Makes me wonder how difficult it is to get in an Honors English class nowadays.

Surprisingly easy...sadly

When someone asks how you can legally emigrate to the US... Things don't look bright for the future.

High school is basically the least that society expects a person to accomplish. It's peanuts. While it might seem daunting once you start, by the time you've spent a few years in the real world you're going to have the same viewpoint as us.

Have fun, be active, make lots of friends, do your work. Don't get all whiny when you don't ace a test because there's a lot more difficult things in life than that.

Browse the Opinions forum and take note of everything our libertarian members have to say. Then argue with your Government teacher every chance you get. That'll be fun lol.

I actually learned more in the normal class after I got booted out of honors for low grades. Learning is purely subjective, I knew almost all the information. I was in honors everything, too, so...

Anyway, start up high school in four days, after being absent from my original classes for three years. I wonder just how much more ahead I am this time.

Enjoy being a Freshmen, enjoy the next four years and counting because once that's over you'll realize some of the classes you've taken (or will have forced upon you because it's a part of the "curriculum") were above all else, absolutely pointless and not worthwhile like your teachers will keep leading you to believe. Also, look for things to keep you interested throughout your school years because the last thing you want is to lose absolute interest in any and everything involving your school because you feel it's beneath you.

Have fun, learn some stuff, and cut at least one class and look forward to not using some of things you'll end up learning. After that, look forward to a job and college. The real world is going to slap you straight in the face once you graduate, quick-fast.

You may not like High school at the moment but it'll grow on you. I just finished high school last year and it has been the most enjoyable/memorable time in my life so far. Once you become more acquainted with your fellow students and settle into the new environment, you'll start to appreciate it aswell.
Be outgoing. Meet new people. Join a club. Fine things that interest you. First year of high school is usually a big jump compared to elementary school but you'll soon find out it was the easiest in the coming years. Just have fun as it matters the least in the next 4 years.

Hmmmm, having just given out GCSE exam results to some rather disappointed students, I must play devils advocate to some of the posts people are putting up here. High school (or secondary school as we have as a closest equivalent here) is not the be all and end all of life, HOWEVER, qualifications are incredibly important. The advice of 'don't let schoolwork get in the way of having a good time and life experiences' may be true to some degree but unfortunately, this can be misdirected with some pretty unfortunate results.

I saw on Tuesday, some capable students who had convinced themselves that was the case, suddenly realising that they had made a big mistake for 5 years - missing out on college or other opportunities, because they had messed about. They don't have a 2nd chance, that's it, dreams and aspirations gone because they thought it wasn't important. Conversely I saw some real success stories of students who overachieved through hard work and graft, who were now heading off to do something they never dreamed they could before.

My advice to you is, of course, have some fun, but take the work and the classes seriously. Especially in this current economic climate, any advantage you have over other applicants for jobs/placements etc is vital and good qualifications are a massive advantage. Please don't be one of the 'a qualification is just a bit of paper, it means nothing' or 'schools not really as important as having a good time' people. I have seen so much talent and potential go to waste down that route.

In terms of settling in, don't worry. It may seem daunting at first but you'll soon settle in, make new friends and feel like part of the furniture. Cliched I know but this is experience talking - I help people through this transition every year ;)

Good luck and enjoy the next chapter of your life and all the thrills and spills that will surely come with it

High school is basically the least that society expects a person to accomplish.

And at the end of it they make everyone dress up like they just won their degree and have a ceremony. Congratulations! You have the minimum standard of intelligence required for an adult to function in society!

Have fun, enjoy yourself and make the most of the social aspect. Dont be afriad to approach girls.. socalize and make lots of friends. Those type of skills will transfer the most into the "real world". Its not always what you know, but who you know, and your ability to get the required information from the person who knows it.

Hahahahah,

Seriously man you will look back at this after you finish high school (and presumably college since your taking honors classes) and wish you were back at that point in your life. Like everyone else is saying, just enjoy yourself...and those beautiful Erie/northwest PA winters.

What is a freshman anyway? A 9th grader or something?
In high school, yes.

In college, I guess technically you could call it 13th.

GT_Prologue5, I will ignore all other comments and give you my pure thoughts on high school and what you will see as problems. My high school was very group oriented and I was a nerd. I hated it and will not use that experience to judge yours.

You lost your father recently. From your own personal experience you gained a harsh, and too early, lesson in what real problems and worries are. You are at an age where your biggest problems should be balancing hanging out with friends and maintaining your grades. Unfortunately, you lost a loved one at an early age. While most real problems in adulthood don't compare to that you have something to compare teenage drama to when high school life seems too much. When you make that comparison you will see that the worst high school by itself can throw at you won't matter. When you have to worry about jobs, money, bills, and being responsible for others that is when you will look back on this time right now and shake your head. As I said before, I hated my high school, but today I can't remember half the names of the people that made it so miserable. But keep your friends close. My best friend from those days is still my best friend and even the "friends" from high school that I lost touch with I can still remember fondly.

One thing I would like to add: You described your sister as delinquent. I am not sure why you labeled her that way, but suspecting she skipped class leads me to believe you have reason. Watch her. With your father recently passing her behavior could become worse. That kind of emotional trauma can make an already troublesome teen act out even more.

I started freshman school two years early (technically). My current school straight away puts the Year 7s (11.y.o) and Year 8s (12.y.o) into exams at the end of Term 2 and 4 (and I think term 1 now). So you get used to it pretty quickly. And now the Year 7s are forced to do Music which was co-curricular when I was a Year 7 .

After you finish a year of College (High School for you Americans ) - you get used to the school, and get used to the year-by-year changes.

Good luck, and keep doing French - Je parle Ça aussi!

Bonsoir, my readers. ("Good evening" in French.)

I know this. Second day here and she "missed the bus" (Sure...)

You are going to have to explain-my French is not fantastic, although I can great people and know numbers 1-10.

And to all the people saying that life is going to smack you in the face, it's already started for me. Foolkiller summed it up. I just know at my age I'm a little young to really understand the outside world. I just like to talk about things, get stuff off my chest. I've had 2 family members die in the past year, and my parents split at age 7 and only stayed together 2 years until my father's death. I've seen my mom shatter porcelain plates on my dad's head. I've fist-fought with my brother and sister. I'm not gonna say my life sucks, because my mentality is "there's nothing I can do about it."

Also, she won't be my wife! I'm her friend, she has a boyfriend.

As for today, I had the same classes except instead of pool I had "Freshman Seminar", the world's stupidest class.

Another thing on life after HS, I know this because my brother was in the same school I am. If he was in school, he'd be a senior still. He dropped out and got his GED and now he lazes around everywhere.

I'm starting to enjoy HS. I saw more of my friends and my classes and schedule is simple and easy. School is overcrowded.

I do plan on going to the college, but I can't think of something. I just need to you know, talk every once in a while. And I do it here. Because I don't know anyone personally, and you don't know me. So you can't really criticize who I am.

Also, one day, if I ever get to right a historic essay, I'm gonna right it on the History of GTPlanet. I'll be back tomorrow.

👍 I Spent one winter in Erie. Makes winter in P Burgh seem like a tropical paradise.

The winter is awful. Even worse because my French class is in the other building, and the open walkway goes uphill. And it gets icy.

I'm suing!!
