Wow, ps4 a bargain today..:)

I piad about £370 for the ps1. I actually got a great deal too, 2 controllers, a memory card, Resident Evil, Shellshocked (that was a surprisingly awesome game), Track & field, Tekken and cant remember the last game, really was a good deal as my mates paid close to £500 for a ps1 with a 2 or 3 games and two controllers.

EDIT: ah that was it, the clue is in the photo, Ridge Racer was the final game

I never got a ps1 until gran turismo came out, but i bought the saturn first from dixons, about £400 for that..

It's scary, to this day I never get a console on release, it has to drop at least £100.00 (and in some instances like the Saturn and Dreamcast I pick them up long after). I got a SNES in the late 90s and one of the games that came with it was a US cart of Axelay, a so-so vertical shooter and the price tag on the box was £64.99

Whats crazy is when you look at inflation, that $430 is worth almost $680 in todays money. A PS4 today would cost the equivalent of about $256 back then.

That is incredible. It is super expensive even for today's standards. Just think of it: that add is 20 years old!! I'm even more surprised games were the same $60 back then. My PS4 was $370 with Uncharted collection. My Xbox One was $299. If you compare the cost of things back then versus today, new gen consoles are dirt cheap for what they can achieve.

Shellshock the military game or M&Ms Shellshocked? Always on the lookout for obscure old game recommendations :)

Miltary, i had no idea the game existed untill i saw it in the package so didnt expect anything of it, was a nice surprise and everyone who tried was equally surprised by it, it looks like a rubbish game looking at it now though.

Couldnt remember if it was shellshocked or shellshock.

ps. rival schools was awesome too. I had that on import as it wasnt released in the UK

Ah, looks kinda cool, might have to downlo....pick that up on eBay. I think I played Rival Schools (United By Fate?), was a fun beat 'em up, though Tekken 3 ended up as my staple.

My parents made me behave for a week, had to wait for my dad to come home from work and had to clean up my room before they would finally drive me over there and i could buy it (i think with the pocketmoney that i had saved). Seemed to last forever as i was 12 and totally excited about it.

And when we arrived at the store it was sold out... :banghead:

Got it a couple of days later though
Twisted metal was my first game.

Hadn't seen that before, looks like PS1 version of Battlezone that I used to play in the early 80's

My memory is mostly a blur regarding my childhood years, but i still remember the first time i ever played on a PS1 in a big store. I had it all to myself with a copy of Ridge Racer. Totally blew me away.

Tornado, its from england mate..so british pounds, that`s nearly 800 dollars i think with conversion today...:(

Can anyone figure out that list of games?

I can see:

Primal Rage
Par_____?
Tok Shin D___?
3D Lemmings
Jumping Flash (best game right there)
Goal Storm
Ridge Racer
"Wipe Out"
Mortal Kombat 3
Destruction Derby

Any ideas on the two I couldn't make out? Above letters may well be wrong too!

Ohhh yeah a wonky spelling of Battle Arena Toshinden, good call. Not sure Parodius was ever released in the UK, could well be wrong though. Parodius Deluxe is an awesome game and beats even Jumping Flash on the surreal scale.

Jumping Flash (best game right there)

Applause for this man.

I can't even remember how much time I've spent on that game.

My first video game console. Bought it for like 12,000 pesos and bundled with RNT: TNFS, Gran Turismo, NBA Live, NFS III Hot Pursuit, and MGS. That time I was doubting that buying this would be a gamble but in the end, it greatly introduced me to gaming and the racing games genre.

I got my PS1 for Christmas '97. By then it was the value pack with the two controllers and possibly a memory card, and the Woolworths bundle had it with Porsche Challenge and Toca 1. I can't recall the cost as it was a present, but it must have been the most my parents ever spent on me.

I'm pretty sure this was the same back in the two previous home video console generations (i.e. SNES/Mega Drive & NES/Master System). They have always cost roughly the same amount, nominally. Those who fail history are doomed to be surprised by it...

There are some PS1 games in my collection which I brought from MVC (Christ, remember them?) which had a sticker with both the brand new RRP; £39.99, and the second hand price I was paying; £19.99.

Now I understand why the only Christmas gift my 2 brothers and I got was a PS1 back in 1997. We were okay with it. It came bundled with Crash Bandicoot and Gran Turismo, thus starting my love for cars and wumpa fruits. :dopey:

This thread reminded me of some screen prints I took a few years ago
of a misprint from an online computer store.

SEK99,999 converts to £8,183 or $11,654.
