Commentary police. Every thread has them. They sit online and wait for someone to say something they disagree with and dedicate tons of time trying to explain why they're wrong. Don't be sad though. It's still a nice thread.
Yes. If it means you'll stop trying to change my mind. You posted a video, I took the time to watch it while at work rather than just waving it off, and I found it boring. The driver tandem drifted around a right-hand corner, than tandem drifted around a left-hand corner. Before and after drifts his mechanic leisurely made adjustments to the car. I understand that you were trying to show me the background aspects of drifting (which I appreciate), but that didn't make it any more exciting to me and I made a joke that it made me yawn. This clearly upset you and you said that made me close-minded. I chose to ignore that comment rather than argue with you over it because it's not that important for me to like drifting. Every one here will still live (hopefully) fulfilling lives whether I like drift or not. But maybe it's more important to you than I initially thought. Perhaps there is something in your life that absolutely depends on me liking the sport of drifting. You've posted twice now that I'm closed-minded, even though our conversation was over. I still haven't changed my mind so it hasn't worked. You will simply have to place your hopes and dreams on someone else's opinion of the sport. I mean it's either that or you really really want me to know that you think I'm closed-minded. I got it. I know now. Thank you.
You've written so many words on something you, apparently, hate and yet claim those commenting have spent more time? Then claim I don't like opinions while bemoaning these comment police for their opinions, which are generally built on a far less narrowed minded view of the world? We aren't trying to explain why you're wrong to be frustrated with drifting, what we are saying is bitching and more or less acting like an ass about what other people like is wrong. It is like you're sitting there telling someone why they shouldn't like vanilla ice cream instead of chocolate, and upset when they don't go along with your insistence that chocolate has more to offer.
From what I've gathered, you just wanted to post a rant and have people nod their heads in agreement. The reality is this forum is public and you're going to get some feedback you might not like. How you've handled it poor, at best, and slowly turning to strawmen and jabs.

Now to the subject at hand. I think you need to give drifting a chance, because if what you say is true, and your team is really set on getting into drifting, then it's in your best interest to start making plans for your program. Learn about the events, what goes into them, the techniques drivers use and the crazy-ass race cars that they pilot. Also, when Formula Drift starts up next year, try to watch one of their events. They always livestream during the race weekend. You'll see just how much goes into every aspect of the event.
Also, your friend is 100% correct. You & your team can potentially get a good bit of publicity in drifting if you do well enough. And you know what? That would still apply to if you guys went grip racing instead. Who knows, maybe you'll find something about drift racing you didn't know about that'll catch your attention.
TL;DR, Your opinion is fine, the way you presented it wasn't, give drifting a chance, learn about the sport, and try to have some fun.

You already pointed out what I was commenting on, your lack of humility and refusal to reconsider your claims that people "need" to realize your opinion.
Like @NotThePrez pointed out, it wasn't your opinion or frustration, but rather how you presented it and then went about dismissing others who reacted in an adverse way. Your tone just comes across as self-righteous and dismissive, to the point that I'm just assuming your "you were right comments" directed at me are simply sarcasm. If you're being sincere, then that is cool too. Mostly was just trying to say you'll persuade more people to your side if you back off on the jabs at drifting. Everyone has things that set them off (you should hear me rant about photography) but the difference is drifting is a serious business (unlike really bad selective color use) so considering it as a side line could help pull sponsors. And maybe I was thinking you could prevent some premature grey hair and wrinkles if you reduced the bitterness
Also, congrats on getting some events lined up and logistics sorted out. I have a pretty big soft spot for E30's and several friends of mine run them in various comps up in Washington, along with some E36's and an E39 (well ran, till the M5 was rolled) so I do wish you the best.

I see drifting as the #1 enemy of the import car scene.
Competition is based entirely on opinion outside of blatant disregard for match rules.
Drifting is fun and awesome kicks for everyone involved but as a "motorsport" it falls in at the back of the pack behind dirt track homemade cars. 👎
