It doesn't combust. It reduces, releasing a ton of heat-energy in the process.

Yea thermite is really cool and its legal to make in most states all you need are the ingredients and a soda can to make it. Theres directions all over the internet if you ever want to try just BE CAREFUL!

As in "you will burn your house down"... it's best to just not make it at all.
 
My original guess was a bomb recipe. Turns out I wasn't too far off.
 
I saw it on mythbusters they cut a SUV in half with the stuff, rather scary. They had cameras inside the truck and blobs of molten sheet metal were falling from the roof so yeah, it's hot
