Saw a similar topic in the GT section and thought it would be a useful real world question.

So, what's the furthest you have driven a car? Give details about the whole journey, sure, but what is the longest you have driven your car, in anyone's car or as a passenger?

Unfortunately I am still a bit of a junior when it comes to driving experience. I haven't done any epic road trips yet. The furthest I have ever driven was 66 miles/108km from Connah's Quay, my hometown, to Telford to watch Wrexham play away and also visit a friend. I had to use my mum's car to do it because my car was untaxed at that point in time.

Furthest I have driven in my own car is the 57 miles/92km from my hometown to my university in Bangor. Did this drive a lot during my final year. Nothing too impressive.

Furthest I have been driven in a car was from Connah's Quay again, surprise, surprise, to Newport Pagnell in Buckinghamshire for an interview with Aston Martin. 166 miles/278km.

I have actually gone from my hometown to Cologne in Germany by coach, but I don't think that counts as much.

In one day, Daventry to Southampton to Portsmouth to John O'groats (849 miles). Then the following day, JOG to Daventry 606 miles. I was collecting a friend and his wife (from Portsmouth and Southampton respectively), and delivering them to JO'G for an end-to-end cycling attempt.

However:

Longest road trip was back in 2006, about 4500 miles around the coast of mainland Britain. And it was freaking awesome. I'd love to do it again, but with the cost of fuel these days, it's very expensive holiday :D

The furthest I've driven in a car was 380 miles from Pittsburgh to Indianapolis, where my grandmother lives. I've driven that journey 3 times each way (twice in a 2012 Hyundai Elantra, once in a 2014 Honda Civic Si). The furthest I've been driven in a car was 650 miles from Leeds to Le Mans (and 600 miles back) when I went to Le Mans last year with the GTP crew (Volvo XC70). And the furthest I've been in a coach was 1000 miles from Pittsburgh to Orlando. That took 22 hours.

Anglesey (Wales) to Croix en Ternois (France) via Sheffield (Peoples Republic of South Yorkshire) 478 miles.

It's possible that I've done more than this one day this summer (as I did a LOT of driving), but from what I can remember my furthuest drive would have to be from home to the Carlisle Fairgrounds for the Carlisle Imports & Kit Nationals show. 208 miles in total driven that day on about 5 hours sleep.

Worth it

Farthest I went on my own was from Guelph to Corfu New York. Not a very long trip but the border crossing was awful.

Guelph to Mosport was about the same but with towing a massive trailer through Toronto.:grumpy:

Longest ever in the car was from ontario to Nova Scotia.

I live in an island so the longest I've gone in a single trip is about 100+ miles, which is pretty much from one corner to the other of the island.
I managed to keep a 65mph avg. Which is harder than it seems even for the highway as sometimes you can get stuck behind a couple of cars going beside each other at 10 under for a few miles.

My furthest drive was from Dortmund in West Germany to Innsbruck in Austria.

Thats like 741km ~ 470miles

I once drove From Bergen, Norway to Stockholm, Sweden and back again in the space of a little over 48 hours in a Nissan Primastar. ~1250 miles.

Sydney to Brisbane, so about 1000kms took me about 14 hours.

furtherst trip i have ever done though was Cairns to Coffs Harbour which is about 2100kms, took about a week though as we took plenty of stops.

Driving myself from my home town in the north of Hampshire to the Hotel Wilhelmshöhe, my accommodation for my trip to the Nurburgring in 2008 - 438 miles by Mini.

I've only had my license for about 13 months now, so the longest I've driven isn't particularly impressive. Drove from Syracuse Hancock International Airport to Boston, which is a little over 300 miles. Drove the first half to Massachusetts in a relative's Cobalt, then for the remainder I followed the Cobalt in another's relative's Jeep.

In one sitting while driving? From Tellico Plains, TN to Grand Rapids, MI. Approximately 10 hours and 20 minutes at 653 miles. In one sitting while riding/driving off and on? Armstrong Station, ON to Lake Orion, MI. Approximately 832 miles at 17 hours.

I've done about 10 hours driving in one go (only stopping for fuel) but the longest journey I've done was Birmingham to Dover, then off the ferry at Calais and driving through France and Switzerland, in to Italy to Florence. According to google that's 1126 miles. I know in the week's holiday with the return journey I did almost 2500 miles.

Probably the longest I've ever done is from Chicago suburbs to upstate NY. Around 700 miles and takes almost 13 hours when factoring in gas/bathroom/food stops.

I've done a couple hauls in my driving life. About two months after getting my learners permit, I had to drive a little east of Monroe, Louisiana to our house (roughly 600 miles) because of sorry not saying
Last year, I drove about 700 miles from our house to Aurora, Co (my dad did the other part) and another 700 back going through Midland, Tx. Again, my dad did the other part. I've driven up to my grandma's house a couple times (150mi) but that was before she moved in with us.

I took this trip from my home town of Albuquerque, NM to Corpus Christi TX wayyyy back in '98 with my cousin driving his '93 Ranger 4cyl 4x2. It was a bit of the long way to Corpus since we stopped @ Fort Hood (where he was stationed just a few years before) and Austin TX. It was a great road trip sadly we were going to follow it up with a cross country drive in my Cobra in '02 with the Hot Rod Magazine power tour but they canceled the cross country event(LA to Panama city FL) and made it a regional one in the upper mid west.

Back in 2002. Vacation with a couple of friends, we were driving a Opel Omega MV6. We did the trip in less than 10 hours. Yeey for long straight French toll roads!

Only 2 of us had a drivers license back then, I did the second stint through France and Spain.

With a family now, I tend to shy away from longer drives. I don't like sleeping away from home.

Longest I've done in one weekend is about a thousand kays, longest one-way is about five hundred plus, but given our average road speeds here are between 20-40 km/h... well... you can do the math. That's an eight hour trip, even when you're doing 140 km/h round a blind curve downhill in the middle of the night.

Back when I started this whole "Car of the Year" thing, I would do a two hour, two hundred fifty kilometer commute in the morning to the racetrack, about ten hours on track, straight, then a three hour commute (in rush hour) back. Not an impressive distance, but very, very tiring.

I think we're all waiting for @W3HS to come in here... motorbikes count, right? :lD

In that case I guess I should make a post.

Daily I don't do much distance but as I hold a World Record for longest continuous journey in a single country I suppose I win the thread, right? :D

The unofficial distance I covered was close to 50'000km give or take a few hundred. The record distance, tracked and recorded, stands at 35'511km, or something to that effect. I could draw it out on a map but an accurate mapping would take days.

I've done a few several hundred mile runs back in the UK in my youth but they really pale in significance to what I did last year on a bike.

In a car the most I have done is about 80km which isn't even a proper drive for most people.

Is there any place I could read up on the journey? When'd you get back? I'm rather interested.

Mine personally was from Austin, Texas, to Santa Maria, California in one day. 1537 miles in about 18 hours:

Longest single day drive was williamsburg VA to mandeville LA ( about 1100 miles) overnight. Totally unsafe but made it and learned my lesson.

I left home (Chongqing, China) on the 1st of August 2013 and got back to finish sometime Feb 2014. From conception to completion was about a year of my life.

The best concise media is here, here and here. The full write up is boring and only what was required to send to Guinness so data heavy and not very enjoyable. Those videos I've linked highlight the most of the tour in pictures with captions (done by my step mother so the grammar isn't great).

Longest in one day was from home to Bathurst, about 950km I think. Longest trip was about 5500km over 3 weeks a couple of months ago, on a holiday throughout Australia.

My brother in-law and I drove from San Luis Obispo CA to Oberlin Ohio in 38 hours or so. We stayed one night then loaded up my Mazda B2200 and headed back to California. Total trip was around 75-80 hours of driving. We drove straight through taking turns driving.

My longest motorcycle trip was SLO CA-Carson City Nevada.

Oh wow, interesting thread. My brother and I decided it would be "cheaper" to drive to FL to visit our older brother rather than fly...so we did, in his 1993 RX-7. So long story short, 2 tow trucks and countless quarts of oil; it took us longer than what you see here.

It was still the craziest trip I have ever had in my life. Never have I ever met the craziest, weirdest human beings on the face if this earth. (nothing personal against the south but, you guys are insane, and moonshine is ****ed up...)
