G27 extern handbrake mode, no warranty void

Well since my wheel is only 2months old, and I don't like the handbrake button, I was looking for an handbrake mod that doesen't void warranty , I saw 2 or 3 but I can't find the video/topic anymore.
Anyone got something to spare?
If not I'm gonna start making one then..:sly:
Thanks.

What game/system will you be using it on?

Gt5, gonna try to make a normal handbrake that just press the button, gotta have to do a system to attach it to the table and to not over press the button.

Still thinking on the design and which material I'd should use... Let's see what I'll find around my house.

If you're using the G27 for PC games, what you can do is buy a really cheap crappy USB gamepad, and wire a handbrake to any button you want on the gamepad, as most PC games will allow the use of 2 controllers (G27 AND gamepad).

However, on a console, you can only use one controller at a time (G27 OR pad), so the only way to have a handbrake is to have it wired to a button on the wheel.

Hope this helps. :)

You could do what I did. Some cried about you can't use all 6 buttons on the G27 so I just Velcro my controller to the center of my wheel. You could then assign the right stick as e-brakes. Now I've got a much more useful D-pad as well.

But it won't work in the game, as only 1 controller can be used for gameplay.

A sixaxis controller only works alongside the G27 in menus (i.e. you can use the D-pad in menus).

you are use both controller and wheel in GT5. Just have to set the controller number to 1. I'll try again to make sure. Yeap, I'm right you can use both controller and wheel during race. I just assign E-brake to RA down and it worked. (I've been racing away from my rig with the DFGT lately yet I was sure I had both working with my G27)

If Zoom!Zoom! is right, then you don't have to break open your G27, just get a used PS3 controller, break that open and wire up a hand break to the O button or w/e GT5 assigns the button for the handbreak.

Not going to void warranty already, and it's not the only way, I'm thinking on making it like an accessory for the wheel so.

We'll see.

I saw one where a guy basically used a bicycle brake just attached in place on the G27 so that when the brake is pushed it clamps together and presses the O button.

Same theory could be applied but using a controller instead, no need to crack anything open, and that you don't have to keep mounted to your rig if you don't want. It's on my list of things to do, I'll post results in this forum if I get anything done.

Nice one you gave me an idea..
It could be attached next to the gearbox or such.

If you can use your controller alongside your wheel in a race then I think I'm going to wire a handbrake to a used controller then, seems fairly reasonable actually. That bicycle brake idea was pretty sweet actually. I would have no idea how to set it up with an ebrake though xD

Get a old ps3 controller, and a handbrake, wire up 2 wires to the leads of Handbrake button you set on the controller, tape each wire to either side of the handbrake and voila! when you pull the handbrake the wires will run a current causing the button to turn 'on'.

in GT5 you can use 2 controllers.

You mean that i turn on unit with wheel than open a controller and assign number 1 position? I think this way you can use both units as one

Heey Nocto, long time no see.. I see this thread is old, but maybe this thread is even older

EDIT: nope; but check it out for a good ebrake rig

I used an S2000 handbrake and bicycle brake for my ebrake. It is really easy to put together. You actually don't even need the actual handbrake, but it just feels more realistic. I got idea from several youtube vids. Using the handbrake for drifting is so much more fun than pushing a button, i have to say. :)

Logitech probably could have made more money selling one! I hope that all future wheels will have ebrake option to purchase.

This is what I did.

Cheap? Super! I tend to stay with the theme of cheap cockpits from the "cheap cockpit" thread so I went to that. I was getting into drifting that time, so I just did this so I can actually use a handbrake other than pressing the button.

Basically, I tied the bottle into the rally style handbrake :sly:. The bottle btw is filled with coins for weight to prevent the wood from pressing the button continuously. If you want for the handbrake to have more resistance, just fill it up. Anyway, i'm planning to redo my cheap cockpit and the handbrake. It does the job right especially for the 4 hour 'Nurb, but my careless and non-planning cockpit is becoming an eye sore for me.

What I don't get is how PD allowed multiple controller support when the official wheels have buttons and D-pads on them for the menus (And the shifter on the G25/G27 too). Some effort must have gone into the multi-control support as it is not a common feature on PS3, perhaps even unique to GT5. The effort put into it would have been better placed supporting the wheels where this feature is useful.

Well, you really can't use the controller for steering purposes if you also have a wheel plugged in. So basically, you just have multiple control for the buttons, not for steering.

I too am looking for a similar solution to my G27 hand brake problems.
I like what this guy did in this video:
http://youtu.be/r5k8xmsBB28

Can someone with some mechanical intuition please explain how this guy is using the plank to press the "O" button on his shifter?

or if anyone else have different hand brake solutions, that would help greatly!

it doesn't really matter how it is done way too many games and simulations do not support an analogue axis for the hand brake which is rather stupid but Leo Bodnar has the solution at least for PC with his precision Joystick controller, I have bought one and will be using it for Ignition & Key start :) Buttons for Quick chat and a host of other settings in rFactor and GTR Evo such as an analogue axis for the hand brake.

You dont have to wire up the handbrake to a shifter. You can wire it up to a DS3, but you have to make sure you have the controller setup on "1". :D BTW if at anytime you will want to use the handbrake with your pc, all you have to is download a programme called "MotionInJoy" so that the pc recognises your DS3 controller :)

glad i saw this... i just bought a g27 and want a handbrake, so ill buy a handbrake from junkyard and find a way to make it press down the circle button on a controller that has busted joysticks. NHL 13 is an intense game
