G27 Gears up without clutch

It does. The game will switch you back and forth automatically. When you press the clutch it will go into that mode. Shifting without the clutch pedal will take it into clutchless sequential gearbox mode and using a shifter paddle will also.

Yeah, the G27 sucks because PD can't implement a proper clutch.

Seriously, when you do use the clutch and shifter you'll wish you didn't, it's far too easy to mis-shift and end up in neutral, then you have to faff around to get it back in gear. Tip: don't give it any gas at all - forget heel-toe stuff - and make sure you have at least 80% clutch in before you touch the shifter. You'll still mess up the timing anyway; it's far too easy to try and shift before you're completely off the throttle for one thing and I find I'm usually already coming off the clutch when I move the stick into position.

It sucks, basically, and your lap times will suffer. I never use it when I'm actually racing in GT5, realism would be nice but forget five second shifts just because the game doesn't know how to handle mis-shifts.

that realy sucks .. G27 is premium wheel but bad with GT5

force feedback and clutch problem

i hate it but I can not Replace it Because it cost me 365 $ :indiff:

any chance to use G27 with need for speed or driver san francisco ? o

Yes, the G27 will work with almost all PS3 racing games (that are coded to use steering wheels).

Thanks .. i wanna ask about my wheel .. whene im trying turn left or right . i get some Resistance like stop point then disappear and Completed the turn .. and some time i get sound like gears contact Between other .. is my wheel fine ?

These wheels can be loud and a bit clunky, but you seem to be describing something a bit out of the ordinary.

Do you mean resistance as in force feedback, or does it feel like its binding up or sticking with in the mechanism?

You could try plugging in the wheel to let it calibrate (it should spin freely and smoothly), then unplug it (force feedback is now off), Can you turn it freely from lock to lock?

It does sound like you might have an issue, but its hard to be sure with your description.

I checked out Driver San Francisco and it looks like that game may be controller only.

Hello

my wheel work Excellent with F1 2010 and f1 2011 .. but with GT5 i get some problem like :-
1- Huge dead zone
2- I can not reduce force feedback and dead zone .
3- i get sound whene countersteer . sound like clunky or friction between wheel gears ..

--
and if i unplug wheel i can turn it freely from lock to lock without any problem . but with game ( specially GT5 ) . i get that sound .. and some time sticking for 1 Seconds When i have to turn left or right ..

As I said . the wheel work fine and great and without any sound with F1 2010 and F1 2011 ...

Ok this is normal for GT5, unfortunately, although it shouldn't be "sticking" when steering.

So, do other wheels have better clutches (with GT5?)

Is it possible GT6 will have an improved clutch function with the G27? Honesly the clutch is a useless pedal imo for the G27 in GT5, would love it to actually work more than half properly for the next game.

The T500RS w/TH8RS shifter seem to have a more natural feeling in GT5, but that might just be from getting more used to it and the software being updated. As far as GT6 goes, we really won't know until someone tries a copy of GT6 with their G27, and we don't have much chance of that until it releases.

clutch issues aside, I'm surprised that nobody has asked what car you are using...

There are several cars in the game that do not require you to press the clutch when shifting with the gated shifter. An example of this is the Mercedes SLS AMG. Basically any car that has a sequential only gearbox (paddle shifters) does not use the clutch at all. You can just put the shifter in any gear and it goes in, regardless of the clutch position.

So, try another car and see if it still does this. It's unlikely that it will unless you pick another sequential car. Pick the old Shelby Cobra... That's gated.

On the subject of clutch implementation in the game... While I do agree that it's very annoying when you mis-shift, it is possible to use the clutch and shifter without having constant issues. I use it all the time. It does take practice though... I'm not saying I'm amazing and anyone that can't do it is "bad." However, I am saying it's possible. I even heal toe. I've set a few pretty decent Time Trial times using the clutch and gated shifter.

Anyhow, I'm not saying it's great, because it isn't... But it's also not unusable. As a side note, iRacing's implementation is quite similar. Though they do make it easier to get the car back in gear, generally. As well, some cars in GT5 are A LOT more susceptible to this issue, though I am unsure why. It's generally the low powered cars and when going from 1st to 2nd.

Try a different car and see how it feels. Best of luck.

I just purchased a G27... Your saying that PD's lack of support makes the G27's FFB loud and noisy? I couldn't care less about the clutch but can someone list all the bugs and how severe they are with the wheel component itself?

imo having owned a DFGT and a G27, almost exclusively used with GT5 (but also tried with F1, and Dirt 3), the G27 is not loud, and the FFB is excellent when set to level 10, below that it may occassionally leave you wanting more.

The Helical gears make a minor whiring sound, but they're basically fantastic, you shouldn't have a problem with them.

Dirt 3 however, you'll be needing that warranty claim, it just tries to wreck the wheel, GT5 does not.

Oh yeah, but the clutch is pointless in GT5, I think it must have something to do with the G25/27 not being supported in the game initially, they've phoned in the clutch support, so it doesn't work properly, but using the shifter without clutch is vaguely rewarding, otherwise the paddles are good too.

Is it your first wheel? Try using a DFP or G25 and then say the G27 is noisy... Obviously the belt driven alternatives will be much quieter, but the G27 is about as quiet as gears can be.

I've honestly not found any flaws with my G27. No, it's not silent, but I kind of knew it wouldn't - and couldn't - be because its gear driven, helical or otherwise. In any case, the pedals make much more noise. It would've been nice if there had been a rubber stopper in there somewhere but what can you do?
