I finally got my hands on a G27. I got it to get more of a simulator experience and to learn how to drive stick. I've driven automatic cars IRL.

Getting to the point, I would like to learn the basics of driving a manual. I was wondering, are there any recommended tracks and cars to start practicing and getting to a decent level.

P.S - is it true that, on the G27, the clutch has to be fully pressed to engage a shift?

Thanks.

Yes, the game is very strict about the clutch, you have to press it all the way down and you must release your right foot from the throttle completely.

I'm sure it can be annoying at first, but pressing the clutch fully and releasing the gas is the correct technique in the end.

I recommend starting with a really slow K-car or such, on a simple track such as Autumn Ring Mini to learn the ropes. If you've never driven a manual transmission, it'll take a while for your footwork to become unconscious, but with practice it'll get better.

I have never raced in GT5 with a H-shifter with manual gearbox, but the thing that it requires full pressed clutch and no throttle at all is good, and will also help you to get experience for real life driving. Having a manual gearbox in a car is fun, trust me and I believe it will be great fun in Gran Turismo also.
Good luck with it ^^

You can get away with being 75% on the clutch 25% on the throttle in GT5. You need to find the sweet spot.

I think the G27 works well at speed, but the most difficult part of learning to drive manual is starting from a stop. In a real car, you feel the clutch engage and the car starts to moving slowly, then you have to hold the clutch at that point for a second or so to get it to speed, then you can release it all the way.

IMO, if you can't drive manual, then you don't know how to "drive". You simply know how to operate a car and the rules of the road.

Good luck!

Maybe, as an inbetween stage, use the paddleshifters for now to learn the operations of changing gear manually up/down when you reach the correct engine revs. Then move on to traditional manual shift?

OK8

I'm curious, does the G27 allow manual shifting without the clutch, on the H-shifter, as long as the engine is at the right RPM range like in reality?

Yes, if you start by not using the clutch and just use the H shifter, it will allow you to shift gears at any time to any gear.

The gears will shift automatically. It doesn't simulate real clutchless shifting I'm afraid.
