TapTapPull
I'm studying for a final, and as I do so, Bob is putting in some work behind the wheel for me. However, today, after doing some different things beforehand, my B-spec appears broken. Lemme explain the series of events as briefly as I can:

-Tested a Matte paint on a Maseratti, quit the game to avoid it saving because I wasn't feeling it.
-Started the game with my DFGT power unplugged, cause I do BSpec with the Dualshock, but the USB for the DFGT is still plugged into the PS3
-Signed off of PSN, because I don't want people to think I'm ignoring their BlackOps invites when I'm not even at my PS3
- Entered B-Spec Expert MR sports cup with my brand new lvl 0 driver driving a Peugeot 908 HDi FAP. I wanted to see if he could win in this overpowered car, despite is lack of skills/endurance
- I go back to studying once the track loads and I start the race.

Here is where the problem starts:

- I come back in 10 minutes to find that poor lvl 0 Bob is drained of Physical and Mental stamina. But the race is done, the top left of the screen says he is in position 1/12 and lap 10/10, with the final lap timer top-centre done counting.
- But he's still driving, albeit at only 70 km/h because his stamina is drained, I'm assuming.
- On the right of the screen, where it shows all of the racers' names and positions, my driver is still in 7th, where he started the race on the grid.
- I have no control over the HUD. My arrow is stuck at the Issue Commands box, where you start the race, but the game won't respond to my commands
- I try to plug in the DFGT and change it to controller 1, but no dice.
- The DS3, which I have as controller 1, can bring up the XMB with the PS button, but it cannot work in the game.

So I quit the game thru the PS button, and try it again,

-enter same race with my first Bob instead of the noob in a McLaren MP4, and go back to my studying
- come back mid-race, to see that my driver is winning, but I have no control again, and the right side drivers list is still stuck as it was at the Grid before the start of the race.

Use PS button to restart entire system.

I go in again, to a different race, one of the Expert Tuned Championship races, with my highest level Bob in the Mazda Furai

-At the grid, before the countdown, I issue the Pace Up command, and Bob responds with the OK.
-As soon as the race "Go"es I lose control of the HUD yet again.

Turn off PS3, come to GTP

Sorry for the long post...

Cliffs:
Once the race starts in B-Spec, I lose control over the game, and the race goes on indefinitely, even if I win or lose after the actual amount of laps. Only way to exit is thru Quit Game using the PS button.

EDIT: UPDATE

Recorded a video recreating the problem

That seems really strange.
If you keep trying and the same happens over agian, I would suggest clearing the cache from the in game options menu. I believe it is in one of the lower options, in the one of the sections next to networking.

Thank-you, I will try that.

I wonder if it has something to do with me being signed out of PSN, I'm going to experiment with that as well.

UPDATE:

Recorded a video to show the 'problem' in action.

This also effects my A-Spec. I can race, but after the 10 laps I don't get an end screen. If I press pause the game pauses, but with no pause menu. I can unpause and keep racing, but cannot leave the game. Only option is to PS button quit game.

Tried deleting my Cache, and that didn't work. I uninstalled the optional install and am now re-installing it.

Figured the video link was worth the dbl post. Mods lemme know otherwise.

Well, to anyone who read my previous thread today (https://www.gtplanet.net/forum/showthread.php?t=144545), you would know that some very peculiar and game-breaking things were happening to my game.

And you'll never guess what was causing it.

But before I tell you what, let me explain the problems I was experiencing; and yes, they were game-breaking.

All of these problems happen after the 3,2,1 countdown and as soon as the race starts:

In B-spec I lose all control over driver commands and cannot move the arrow. The race goes on, and after Bob wins/loses, the cars slow down and keep driving. No victory screen pops up, and I am literally stuck watching Bob victory lap over and over.

Here is a link to a video which demonstrates the problem in B-Spec, where the problem first arose: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=20zl2LJknUY

I A-Spec I can start a race, and drive the whole thing, but once I win there is no victory scene, no money, no XP, and when I pause the game once the game starts no pause menu pops up, the game just stops. I can resume racing, but you cannot exit, restart, anything.

In Special events if you hit a wall and get disqualified the game freezes, in the sense that you can no longer drive, but the car still sits there Idling. No 'Disqualified' or anything... Again, no option to pause and exit.

My only option to quit is thru the Quit Game using the PS button.

Now this might already have your little detective brains buzzing. Mine sure was.

Is it because I aborted a paint job by quitting the game before a save just before the problems occurred?

Is it because I'm not signed in to PSN?

Is it because I unplugged my DFGT wheel after I started GT5 from the XMB?

Is it because I recently set a photomode picture I took to 'Share with friends'?

Did I have to clear my cache, like the announcement in the GT5 newsfeed suggests to do to fix some problems after the 1.03 patch?

Well, I was pulling my hair out trying to figure it out, and was already contacting friends who would be holding my favorite cars for me while I deleted my save data.

But before it came to that, I tried clearing my Cache. No luck.

I then uninstalled and re-installed the optional install that you can do when you first popped in the game. No dice!

It was then that I decided to try out a race on one of my other PSN-IDs.

Upon starting a race, the first thing I notice is that there is music playing. It catches me off guard, because on my main account, the account having problems I had been running a custom playlist that I had, for the last week and a half, been playing on mute because I was trying to get a feel for rev sounds and tire squeals, as this is my first GT game.

I finished the race (first, of course), and lo and behold, I win! The victory song starts playing (never sounded sweeter), and my money and XP are awarded! So I now know that the problem lies in my other game account, and not the disc itself.

So the music in-race was something I immediately noticed. The wheels in my brain start turning... And then it hit me.

The music! Earlier today I had wiped my Playstation's harddrive of the 300-some mp3's I had stored in there, and started fresh, adding a few smaller playlists strictly for GT5.

But the glitch was caused because the game was still looking for the playlist that I had deleted!

So I had to go to the audio options menu, deselect 'play custom BMG', then thru 'pick playlist' select a new playlist, and voila! Problem solved!

This is a pretty big problem, as under very specific and seemingly unrelated circumstances can cause your game to unplayable. Someone without my level of cunning, deduction, charm, and good looks would have even more trouble finding a solution to this problem!

Possible need for a patch?

Thanks for reading, and if anyone wants to re-create the glitch:
Select a custom playlist from your PS3 harddrive to play while in-game.
Delete the playlist
Try racing a game!

Thank-you for reading, and hopefully my tribulations have saved someone on here the hassle of this glitch!

Ran into this missing playlist issue a while ago. Every time a race started for me though, a specific error message appeared in the top left for a few seconds to let me know it couldn't find the music, and all was good. No game breaking for me :)

I ran into that issue a couple of days ago - only once though.

I have bgm music switched off! maybe just a one time glitch?

Interesting. I was never extended this courtesy.

Or maybe I was, and since the problem started while I was grinding B-spec and not at my TV, I never saw the error message...:indiff:

Hahaha, if it only gives you the error message one time, I probably missed it.

Yup one time at the beginning of each and every race. I haven't touched b-spec yet, so maybe thats the difference that saved me from the issues you ran into. As I did dozens of races with this error popping up until I could be bothered to switch user bgm off.

Maybe you should change the thread title to something more descriptive to the actual problem for in the future when someone searches for the same problem they can find some answers.

While this is a major issue, I dunno if I would call it a game breaker, seems to be a rare set of circumstances to trigger this, that being said if you can since I do feels its major I would point this out to PD if possible.

I had this problem with b-spec once. I've seen your u-tube video, and I think there is a sign to revealing this problem. At track's loading screen there is a running line with drivers names at the top. IF this line runs smoothly - its OK, but if you see jerking moving - that may be sign of problemma. And I think problem is in the game (ps3 central button was still working too). May be the problem is in hdd-reading game's data (at that moment hdd's sounds very loud), but PD only knows -)
To get rid of this problem i've just powered my ps3 off and wait a few minutes. Since then, there is no such kind of problem.

I agree.

Also, it is very LOGICAL that problem can arise if you delete some file you have previously made dedicated to some function of any computer device - PS3 included.

So, it is not really "game breaking glitch" as you describe it, it is more "user breaking glitch" in logical perspective.

No this is game breaking. If you can't get out of a race that you finished then it's broke. I understand the it's normally used for something else but the term fits and people DO need to know about it. I use custom music also and I'm glad I read this.

I've been answering this question for weeks, I would have thought a search would bring up at least one of my posts...

Oh, and it also happens to playlists that still exist. Sometimes the game randomly decides it just doesn't like certain MP3 files.

And by the way, aren't we supposed to get some kind of trophy for using custom music in a race?

Nice touch, and good work finding the issue. I'm sure this will happen to quite a few people.

Thanks for the merge, but I tried to edit my original post, and there was no option to edit the title of my first thread. I would have posted "resolved" or something. I may not have been in 'Advanced' editing mode, I will have to go back and check.

This 'glitch' also happens when the ps3 blu-ray drive begins to die, and gt5 can't seem to find the music. Usually the music will stop playing and shortly after will be a loss of control. XMB controls work, but no controls will work inside of the game when this happens. How do I know? Let's just say I had to gut my ps3.
