As a kid I liked to go into the local department store and play videogames on the demonstration computers. There were a bunch of us doing the same thing. On the ZX Spectrum I remember a really fast and smooth (for the early eighties) vector graphics 3D space shoot-em-up in which you cleared sectors of enemy fighters Star Raiders-style. At the end of each sector a wireframe letter of the alphabet appeared and you had to fly into it to get to the next sector.

I think it was Dark Star but videos I've seen online don't seem to match my memories. Can anyone help?
