I want to learn how to hybrid myself. I have some cars that in the game are rather useless because they are not allowed to turbo out that I would love to beable to either put a turbo on them or put a different power plant all together on board. The two main ones are the GT40 race car which could also benifit from a 6 speed tranny and the GT LM Race car '02. I would also like to put a faster shifting transmission ino the Puegot LM Race car. That caR is wicked fast and drives like its on rails but man does it take a long timeto shift between the gears up to 5th gear.
 
its MODERATELY difficult... too bad you probably have the NTSC version... uh check back in a little while Im gonna try to somehow extract my codes... but if I were you I would go grab yourself a copy of Swap Magic Coder and the accompanying "tools" to mod your PS2... then I can send you a save file with all the hexcodes pre-entered for some of the "better" engines and and chassis (nothing bigger than V8 though :D) (its difficult to put turbos in cars that are natural, for some reason it will modify the HP (when you add a turbo via hexcode) but not very much, and it doesnt show a boost gauge or sound very boosted... your best bet is to put an engine that accepts turbo into a turbo car and use the tune shop turbo kit as it works off a "multiplier" and not so much a fixed HP to add... so say you put a Honda S2000 engine in an Alfa Romeo... even with a stage 2 kit its big horsepower... because that turbo is meant to multiply a much less powerful engine... if Im making any sense... and also dont trust me because Im new to hybridding :)

Swap Magic Coder 3.8 was great to me because it will directly accept the "Phaste" codes that appear everywhere
 
speed drifter is the man with the plan when it comes to ALL versions and Death Scythe is the man for NTSC... if ya wanna learn theres plenty of info on this board but it will take you a little while to read through all of it
 
search for Speed Drifter's Memory Locations spreadsheet and check out Sucahyo's website and you should have the basis to do it "manually" (entering codes via the cheat device) also the .txt files from the "GT2 Hybrid Swapper" application by Technogeek are a much easier way to extract the code for what you want... also www.gtvault.com is a good resource for finding out info about each car in the game such as weight and engine size and configuration as well as chassis length and width for making a *much* lighter car and still having the wheels line up

I'll have to look into it after I get the desk top PC up and going. The fact that it actually loaded windows today was a fluke. I should have taken advantage of it and Fdisked it so I could douche it and re load all the software anew. Oh well.
 
wow man sounds like a pain in the ass... lol Ive visited ALL KINDS of crazy sites that are full of that spyware and adware crap (keygen and serial/crack sites, not to mention porn, but I STAY AWAY from internet gambling sites, even their popups) and Ive never had a single incident... I dont even run a firewall or antivirus mainly because they are troublesome, CPU hogs and tend to affect connectivity at times (I just had to uninstall a new one I tried out that my ISP provides for free, which I used to think was a good one, Zonealarm, because it conflicted with my ISP's web accelerator app) but since I installed it Ive had so many bad things happen (my bookmarks got erased, Ive randomly been restricted to access my DNS servers (through UDP) when I explicitly allowed it MANUALLY to connect to them... its just insane how CRAPPY *ALL* antivirus/firewall suites are (CPU GREEDY AND INEFFICIENT CODING) for the last 4 years Ive been running "security" free (aside from 2006 when my mother went and bought Trend Micro PC-Cillin after she refused to let me browse unsecured, which was probably the "least crappy" of all the products Ive tried and I was happy I chose that one if I had to live with one regardless it would be that one (Ive tried every major and alot of minor security suites) after I migrated from Internet Explorer to Firefox Ive had absolutely not one incident with any kind of intrusion or infection (aside from a few shady cookies, which are easily remedied) all it takes is careful operating system patching and a keen eye for normal network activity, Im even running XP Home Service Pack 1 which is supposed to be the most insecure of the XP's

so the message for today is:
THE REAL VIRUS IS THE ANTIVIRUS STOP LIVING IN FEAR PATCH YOUR OS, AND GET FIREFOX :D
 
It is possible to turbocharge any NA engine and get the turbo gauge, just add a working turbo kit code and both turbo ID codes.
The problem with ID codes are that they're both three bytes long and using four byte code overwrites rear downforce and front camber values..
The solution is to use three two-byte codes:

NTSC Generic Skyline R34, stock turbo IDs

Tell me if those don't seem to work or give weird results, I don't know which PS2 cheating devices use reversed (byte swapped) values
 
my cheat device... uses PHASTE codes... so is it that there is a turbo "master" code? like the ID for the specific turbo kit is one line and the other two work with every other kit?

if thats true then I got some reworking to do heh... I got another ? though, if theres 3 lines does that mean theres 1 line for horsepower, 1 line for the whistle, and 1 line for the gauge?
 
oh... wait... you can turbocharge ANY NA engine... I tried so many times dude so many codes and it ALWAYS froze the game... I had assumed that NA only engines cant be turboed and turbo engines cant be NA tuned... Ive been DYING to get a 5.4 DOHC Twin Turbo :D
 
I gotta find out which cars have single turbos and which ones have parallel twin turbo and sequential twins... I do NOT wanna put a sequential twin turbo on ANYTHING lol... they are garbage

I have yet to try your code as the super bowl is on but if new england gets a huge lead by half as I expect, then I'll go try it out..

Those ID values consist of pointer data and multiplier(?) data and both of them work in the same way.
Many cars use only the first ID for some reason, but they both are effective if used.

The Skyline values were 7D2302 and 693706, so the first four numbers are the pointer to the actual data (engine curve, boost level, gauge,?) and the two last work sort of multiplier.
Multiplier doesn't work linearly. 00-02 gives the strongest available boost/power, from 06 to 20 power levels drop pretty quickly but after that you need to input a value of about 80 to get the same drop.

At first I thought they would be usable even with cars without turbo kits, but no.. a working turbo code is needed first.

Sorry about my difficult to understand explanation, I'm not really good at explaining things in easy-to-understand way :lol:

the only thing I know is that you need to do _lots_ of testing when you're trying to find a good turbo ID values.
As it wouldn't be complicated enough, each turbo ID gives a different engine curve with different engine / turbo kit combinations, so it's no use to make a list of like which ID values give which curves :grumpy:
 
ok I was kinda wondering why these codes look so different from the PHASTE codes for turbo kits eg:

20A1F880 000011BB /Toyota SUPRA RZ `97 original Setup A

but codes like that only work on engines that are already turbo-enabled in the game (like the F6 Typhoon engine

I would love to use the BMW Inline 6 for that authentic sound... Im still a little confused though, so with every turbo does it require 3 unique codes or are 2 of them the same for all turbo kits?
 
Just succesfully installed normal turbo from Mazda RX-7 LM Race Car `01 into a GT40 race car with RX-7 RS-R stage 4 ID codes (5F190D & 463217).
It looked like Skyline's turbo was working also but wasn't sure because the engine curve didn't change at all.. and testing them is really slow because I can't use my PS2 right now
 
try putting a Nissan 300ZX 2+2 twin turbo kit on a standard Ford GT...

but this is stupid fun: just managed to get an invalid turbo kit to work :D
My GT40 has something like 10800 HP now, shown power peak is at 1700rpm, tacho shows up to 18krpm but limiter is at 7k

Yeah, I normally watch where I go and pay attention to what the computer is doing when I'm cruising and do just fine. I have big issues with My Space however and avoid it like the plague. RVERY virus I have picked up in the last two years has infected this computer came from My Space and all were during my daughters chatting with people there and the the constant dowmloading of backgrouinds for her homepage. What P***es me off is that I told her EXPLICITLY to stay the **** off of My Space. I found out a couple days later that she had been going there, this is just three days after she had returned home from Cally pregnant. Of all days, Xmas day I was playing with the kids and I heard the unmistakeable sound of the hardrive being recognized by BIOS on the boot up. The computer just rebooted itself, but instead of loading windows ot did the drop operatring system stunt. Thast what It has done eversince IF I can get windows to load.

Needless to say that was the last time I have or will ever allow here to use any computer in this house. As far as I'm concerned this little lady wore out her welcome about eight months ago anyway. Adult children need to realize they are adults and take charge of their lives. I don't expect anything of them that I myself didn't accomplish at their age or before. The baqd thing though is that both my step daughters think the world revolves around them datta da datta dadatta... For me the computer was just the finishing touch in a long line of crap. Still, I have a compuetr to fix now that otherwise was running perfectly.

meh if I had a boot sector infection I would just go out and get a new drive, might as well upgrade the storage too :) that way you can be sure its clean... its also nice to have a workbench computer and a home computer to be able to do stuff like that (fdisk it, etc)

I always thought there must be a way to put turbos on engines that normally dont support it... but I stopped thinking that after I tried putting the GTO 5.7 into the RX7, with the stock turbo it would always lock up before a race...

Looks like that's ultimately true, couldn't get it to work no matter what :(
It says Ford GT's stock aspiration is supercharged but it doesn't have a supercharger part installed.

Can you name any NA only cars? I'm thinking that some engines may be mated with certain aspiration type (eg. supercharger) which you can't remove = you can't turbo it.
At least superchargers seem to work on any car.. I seriously need to experiment more

I dont like to be a buttinski but as an adult child (26) who returned to living at home (in peace) due to unfortunate circumstances involving a flaky roommate my idea would be that she needs a little help to find a decent job... there are lots of jobs out there for people of all education levels... she just needs to figure out that a job is the first step to being independant and that independance is truely satisfying unlike any other thrill in the world... to come home to your own place with peace and quiet and the freedom to do what you want... its priceless and far more than worth the suffering a little "shame" for working at a "low paying" job

Well, if she would just keep a darn job that would help immensely, but then again when you aRE raised that DADDY will bail you out whenever you tend to not learn these lessons in life and then become a burden to those around you. Both those girls are this way. In fact she moved out last week. Then again DADDY, re3nted her and her sister an aprtment AGAIN, Her new boyfreind and father of said kid in her belly seems pretty responsible fellow, then again he's also 32 and an ex Navy Corpsmen. I wonder how long it will be before he too gets sick of the little nuances...

I am 37...four months from 38, and at 24 I was going through a very bad divorce and moved back inat my parenst for a few months while I put my head back together. I however showed more graciousness to my hosts(parents) and pulled my own weight. The screwed up part is that we taught hboth those girls better than this. Goesto show that some outside influencese are just too strong.

Also I tried that cose for 16.2 million you wrote a while back for me to try and I can't get my GameShark to allow me to highlight it to put it into effect. Anyy ideas why? Thanks.

I hear ya man sometimes people just dont know what they got till its gone... although this guy DOES seem like an upright fellow, I would give him the benefit of the doubt until he proves otherwise... it might help her to find a job where some of her friends work, that may give her the "detication" to stay there so she doesnt look like a bratty kid to her friends, some people behave as it someone is always watching them *hint* and some people behave only when someone is physically watching them :)

just so ya know, with a V8, and a turbo, your best bet is a 4 or 5 speed tranny... the torque curve is much more important than the horsepower one unlike what most people think... a wider gear ratio gives you more usable torque... and also turbo cars dont spool well with high gear ratios (especially final drive) as they need the torque to create exhaust gas pressure (not volume) high RPM creates a free-er flowing exhaust, increasing VOLUME but pressure does drop at higher RPMS, go check out volumetric efficiency on google and see what I mean :)

basically for (large:v6+)turbo engines... you need a stroke longer than the bore, and ports as big as you can grind em, on the flip side you need a smaller hotside/impeller on the turbo as you increase stroke and the proper sized downpipe to create adequate backpressure to allow for a quicker and stronger spool, it may create PEAK boost (that the TURBO can handle) at a higher RPM, but the boost level will come up alot faster with increased stroke compared to bore and a turbo with a larger compressor (cold side) than the impeller (hotside), the turbos that benefit the best from this setup are turbos that are wastegated much lower than their theoretical maximum, creating a flat and almost screw-type supercharger-like torque curve. Im sure you've heard it before but I'll quote the famous Carroll Shelby: "horsepower sells cars, Torque wins races"

Im a huge turbo mustang fan and if you check out some of the faster ones, they either leave the stock 3.15:1 ring and pinion or install even longer gears such as 3.08 or lower, and the ones that try to upgrade to even 3.55 or 3.73 tend to not accelerate as well, and tend to have traction issues when the turbos spool. the opposite is true for supercharged, nitrous, or natural aspirated cars, the higher the final drive, the quicker the acceleration.
