Gear Ratio Problems?!

Hi guys, so I'm competing in a racing event on Sunday with the 10' Camaro RM, one of the guys in my team was telling me the gear ratios, and he said:

Ok first set the max speed to 230MPH, so I did.

Then he said 'set the final gear to blablabla', so again, I did.

Then he told me to set 6th gear to 0.919 (or something like that), so I went to do it, but the highest it would go up to was about 0.870, and then he told me to set gears 1 and 2 'right to the bottom', so to '-.---' and '-.---', but these ratios he told me weren't right at the bottom for me, they were about halfway.

So what I don't understand is, why are are gears so different? We've both tuned our cars to the max, so as far as i'm aware they are identical, but for some reason the gears are different.

Can anyone shed any light? sorry for the rushed post.

Unless you both begin from the 'default' settings you won't be in sync.
 
I certainly started from the default settings, and I'm almost certain that himself, and everyone else he's given he tune to started from default too. I know only too well about the problems of setting the ratios before the top speed, so I made sure I did it all in the correct order.

play around with the final drive BEFORE setting top speed. if you cant get 6th short enough (higher number) it means you need to decrease the final drive before setting top speed 230mph. your 6th gear 'range' will then change.
 
Another thing to take into account is the amount of power in the cars. I've noticed that if you try this with the same car but at different power levels the output ratios are different when attempting the same thing you mention. If he's running a 500 miles car and yours only has 40, just as an example, the ratios will not match up. Not sure why but this is something I've experienced.

it's not power levels so much as it's the usable rev-range/redline. ie. the mods that alter the rpms (ecu tuning, exhausts, catalytic) will affect it. the mods that don't (intake, intake manifold) will not.

you can test this by picking a modded car at horsepower 'x' observe the top speed (not the setting, the theoretical top speed) in the transmission menu. now, remove the racing filter/intake manifold and replace with ecu/exhaust/cat so that it returns to horsepower 'x'. go back into transmission and you'll see the theoretical top speed has gone up. why? because you've expanded the usable RPM range (ie. it can rev xxx rpm higher in each gear, thus more speed in each gear). now when you start moving the top speed slider around, you'll get different results than you would if the car could only rev xxx rpm less.

that's why the ecu/exhaust/catalytics/engine stage 1 to 3 should be done before you start adding the manifold, filters and exhaust manifold. particularly for PP limited racing.

Definitely used to happens with power levels, as it happened with a fully tuned 0 miles new car vs the same car when fully run in. The only change is the output power of the car, all the tuning modification parts are the same.
For example, 4.500 final drive at 180mph top speed slider can give 6th gear a 0.673 closest ratio (all the way to the right) on a 0 miles car, but after 250miles can give a different figure for the same drive and top speed slider values. (This is just an example, and not a literal portrayal.)

(Edit: used to happen before 2.00, cannot recreate it now)
